Hi all.

I've been thinking for a while, and I've come up with some ideas for a couple of games, but my programming skills are pretty small, so I was wondering.

Anyone here looking for a new project? I mean it doesn't have to be very complicated, but I'm looking for some people who wanna create something new.

I'm looking for all types of positions, but mostly programmer types. Anyway if anyone is interested post or something.

The idea I have is pretty ridiculous, but I thought it was interesting because its very different. The gist of the idea is that you play as an elemental, fire/earth/ice/lighting etc. and you attack through spells/dances. My original goal was to incorporate it into a DDR mat/a controller so you'd have to perfor a dance move on the pad to use most abilities but the controller would handle movement etc.

As far as story is concerned. I'll post it if there is enough interest.

Well it's interesting, but I won't go on about how your'e incorporating Harry Potter, DDR, and any DND story in history, since its' hard to avoid stepping on toes every now and then, and being a writer I know this too well.

This actually sounds alot like an idea I had back when the eyeToy was released: You take place as a wizard and, using the EyeToy and Dance Pad as reference points, you had to make gestures with your hands to succesfully "cast" the spell. Why no company has done this since all there is for the Eye Toy is DDR and a bunch of stupid mini games is beyond me.

So far, it sounds like a good idea.

As with any good idea, even the crazy (Nintendo type) ones, enough time and effort put into it can make it good. But those ideas also gotta be good and even more than ideas or time or anything else, you need effort and drive. This is why I have yet to be able to produce any work besides random writings (which I'm happy to say I've started to actually do a lot more stuff recently, yay for me!).

But uh...as for people helping you, I'm actually one like you who is an idea person who likes to write, direct and everything else. I'm looking for my own artists and programmers to help me do everything I've already written up and am ready to do. So....sorry.

ah, well its nice to kow there are others.

If you want we can try to work something out. I mean i realize we're both in similar roles, but I think that if we can figure out an entire story/world type thing so that everyone but the art/programming is done, we'd have a lot of work done.

I mean it can't hurt to hunt those types down while we do our work.

What's ur idea Kenryoku?

I've been doing some more thinking, and instead of creating a new topic I'm just gonna post it here.

Developers: Feel free, in fact I INSIST, plagarize this idea for ur MMORPGs. thx.

Here is how it works.

FFXI wasn't FF enough for me, so after a lot of deliberation, I developed my own battle system that I think is cool.

First parties can be no bigger than 4-5 people. A party of 2 people may find 3 monsters in an encounter, but a party of 5 may find a group of 5. Bigger parties fight bigger parties.

There will be random encounters.

The batle system is FF7/8/9 esque. The party members run around, and one of them encounters an enemy group. All the members within a relavitivly close radius are warped to the member that was encountered, and the fight begins.

Neither side can do anything until a time bar fills up. BY defaul the bar would take 2 seconds to fill up, but increased agility reduces it. You can make you decisions for actions before the bar fills up, and they will be executed the second the bar is filled. This reduces the advantage people with UBER fast connections/reflexes have. You can queue up to 3 actions.

Now for the skill system. As you deal dmg, take dmg, or use items, A limit breaker type bar fills up. At 100% you can use a special move, 200% it does more dmg, at 300% u can use a uber type move. The bar carries over from battle to battle.

Fighter types can use sword/axe/etc. skills that take mp. EXamples are sword flash, Quick strike, thunder blade, etc.

Mage types get the basic spell sets.

For example.

Fight starts

After two seconds the fighter executes at simple sword strike that has a delay of 1 second, so he can use his next move after three seconds.
(base delay of 2 + 1 sec for his move= 3 sec.)

The mage uses his ice spell that has a delay of 2 seconds, he can make his next move in 4 seconds.

Finally the third member of the group uses a potion. That has a .25 second delay so he can make his next move in 2.25 seconds.

Now for the elaborate section: A combo system

The figher can select his combo option and select "create a new combo" He choses to make a 2 move combo using his thunder strike.

When he makes this selection the other party members see an icon representing that, and can chose to join his combo.

For example the black mage type joins choses combo and then join combo.

He choses to use his ice spell.

When both the figher and the black mages delays are up (the fighers 3 second from his strike and the black mages 4 second from his first ice spell) they both execute their actions. The mage uses ice first then the fighter uses thunder strike.

Since the frozen monster gets electrocuted( ice + lightening) he takes extra dmg. When they execute the move a green msg will appear that says the comob they did

Ice+Lightening Strike.

If they did earth+lightening strike, the text would have been red and the monster would have taken reduced dmg because it would have been stoned and then electrocuted (rocks take less dmg from lightening).

If they did fire + lightning strike, the msg would have been normal color because the two moves are mutually exclusive.

You can set up combos for up to 5 people to partake in, and if the combo is over 3 people in size, special combo moves will be available.

You can also combo magic+magic, and attack+attack

For example: Ice+lightening, or Upper cut+ Downward strike (monster is shot up intot he air, and then thrown downwards)

Monsters can combo too.

Escaping: You can chose to run from a battle, but it adds 6 seconds to your delay (increased agi or items will decrease that penalty) and after the 6 seconds you may escape. If the monster is = level or lower you will always escape. If the monster is stronger than you, your chance of escape gradually lowers, but it is always higher than 33%.

Anyway thats my idea. What'd you guys think?

My friend and I are debating. We have ideas for about 4 or 5 different games, while I still have more but one is a sequel to an Anime series which would be like an advanced 3D fighter and the other a radically new designed Castlevania game which I would never be able to do due to expense and Konami's licence.

But near as we can figure, the best thing we could do as a starting project is melding his idea of a RPG with a 2D fighter/Tales of Phantasia battle line setup but more of a Smash Bros. Melee button/combo setup for the controller. The story and the like would be given to me howeverand that would make it all unique from all the other RPGs on the market (basically, it would be more than just fantasy, swords, magic and FF like symbolic imagery).

But uh....you should just do what you want to do. If I ever got something going enough, I'll come on here and ask for some help. Especially for the RPG idea, we're gonna need Sprite artists and more programmers. Which, I have asked for these things on the forum before but its hard to just ask people to randomly come draw stuff for you (that's our biggest need, artists).

If i may throw my idea out there.

A first person shooter, but motion will be done though a dance pad. all shooting and aiming will be through a controller. This way you can easily aim and strife at once on a console game.

That would be kind of cool....except having to stand on the left pad just for a minute and a half to strafe behind corners. Kinda odd.

I have so many ideas for games, but the only one I really developed was Captain Acorn, this was when I was ten. I designed levels, items, controls, it was an absolutly free roaming platformer. You could go fight the end boss if you had collected enough items, and even then you could win them through mini-games, so you never actually had to play any of the levels. When you completed it and had found all the secret boss keys you could take a portal from the end boss level and after a couple of portals you wiould reach an area where you could get all sorts of cheats. You could even swap characters to do different parts, you had different vehicles you could pick up in levels, when you completed the game you unlocked multiplayer and secret characters. I even designed a game that was like a side story, and a sequel where the 2 crossed, but they were never as developed as Captain Acorn. Gods, I really miss that. I'm gonna go dig out the original copies.

interesting games. kinda take after FF don't they? I mean not intentially. But just kinda naturally.....I'm no programmer but the ideas and concepts are like FF
