Icebergs exploding for no reason are funny. :p

Well, they have been to a town since Gurgu, so it is entirely possible that he picked one up then.

Well, according to Brian's post, I'm dead on the inside.
I am the only one who notices that Bikke isn't wearing a disguise.
That last panel was very funny! I also liked how Bikke refered to Vilbert as a "larp-loving-fruitcake."

The Fifth Power what makes you think black mage didn't just jump off the ship?

Klyco
01-18-2005, 12:58 AM
Technically, none of them were wearing a disguise. Apparently, wearing a hat is not a full disquies.

The Fifth Power what makes you think black mage didn't just jump off the ship?

Because its too far to jump.

Sesshoumaru
01-18-2005, 01:03 AM
That and he said teleporty stabbing or something like that. I know the word teleporty (or a very similar word) was included in what he said. PLus the bamf is a giveaway.

...and the fact that BM said he needed some of that hot teleport action.

And now we know BM can use Meteo. [fearful shiver]

Vilbert's plan failed, now Bikke's plan failed, Garland probably doesn't even have a plan, which leaves drizzl. I wonder what he has planned...

Mike McC
01-18-2005, 01:43 AM
I find it funny that Bikke's plan would have ended up killing the Dark Warriors (except Vilbert) just as much as it would have killed the Light Warriors. At least Vilbert's plan would have worked without killing everyone (assuming all of the food on the ship wasn't poisoned, which it's entirely possible that all of it was). Though, now that I think about it, Garland could be 'saved' by a land shark. Again.

Also, Exploding Tuesday should so be a real holiday.

Red Apprentice
01-18-2005, 01:48 AM
As usual, I'm going to nit-pick on the thread title: "Must be exploding Tuesday" would have been better, IMO. ;)

Funny, we never saw him use those spells before.

It was nice to see him use some spells besides the Hadoken. This strip is a lot more wacky and "random" (oh, how I have come to hate that word) than a lot of the ones we've seen recently - Brian must have been in a silly mood when he wrote it. A very good strip overall, and I love the frame of BM frantically chipping away at the iceberg with his knife - but I always find the overworld sprites inherently hilarious for some reason. (That is an overworld sprite, isn't it?) The BAMF was also a nice touch, though I suppose I would like to know where BM gained the teleport spell.

Trixbeat

Bikke's plan: get everyone killed.
Now: Nobody gets hurt. Except BM.

The iceberg explodes because mother nature doesn't like BM. Either that or BM's knife is enchanted with a magic spell.

Great comic, outstanding timing! But... if I were to say it would have been a little bit better without BM's announcement he was going to teleport, would I get beaten?

dac1990
01-18-2005, 05:45 AM
Methinks this is all part of the Sarda-promised power gain. BM has learned teleport, meteo, and bolt-3. You may remember him using bolt-2 on the old folk's home. Suckers! Anyway, each character is steadily gaining in power. Fighter finally has his sword-chucks and is using big words now, and RM has apparantly(sp?) learned more about his world.

Dark Mage's last line reminds me of Invader Zim, although I can't remember the exact context. I'm sure it's a coincidence though, because although most of Brian's comedy sounds like he ripped it off something else, he's completely original in every way.

One would think that he would try to avoid casting that spell after telling White Mage about it.

This was a good one. Simplistic, but with lots of explosions. I'm kinda surprised that BM didn't just kill Bikke, and worry about the consequences later. Perhaps he's getting smarter after all he's been through. Maybe not, but he's definitely getting more powerful. So far we know he has:

Feather Fall
Teleport
Stone
Bolt 2
Bolt 3
Fire ? (whatever he used repeatedly on the dwarves)
Fire 3
Meteo
Flare
HaDoKen

I feel like I'm missing something, but I'm not sure. We know he didn't have 3-4 of these until recently, so he's definitely acquired signifigant amounts of new magic. Unfortunately, he's out of "doom spells", and we've still got 2 more DW plans to get through. I'm anxious to see what happens next.

If you know your Vampire Mythos you would know that Dracula was in his coffin and surrounded by the dirt from his grave. It's the only way that Vampires can cross running water. So it is possible that Vilbert is in his coffin. But then again... maybe Brian just doesn't care about mythos...

I used to think it was pronounced "Bee-kay," but I think in the Christmas/New Year's animation, they said "Bike" (like a bicycle). I still like Bee-Kay better.

Am I the only one who's considered the possibility that the iceberg exploded because Bikke is correct and it really is Exploding Tuesday?

I always pronounced "Bikke" as either "Bicky" or "Beak". Those seemed the most likely out of the English language's pronunciation rules.

A problem with that is that Dracula emerged from his coffin to kill all on board. Vampire mythos seems a bit strange when it comes to running water, Dracula could only cross the Thames when it was at it's lowest point for example, so I have no idea how it works for the sea. Dracula needed the coffins and dirt to rest, as it's the only way he can sleep. Mind you, Dracula wasn't killed by sunlight either, which seems to be the given events for vampires in modern day myth.

That said, it's a comedy about incompitant heroes, not a gothic horror about vampires. I'm sure Brian uses whatever rules lend to the comedy. As he said earlier, they have whatever powers are needed for a joke. Dracula is just a book I've actually read so I thought I'd point that out (no matter how incorrect I may be).

And I also found this comic strangely amusing. I don't know if it was just mutiple iceberg's blowing up or Bikke's (I pronounce it Bike) to crash into them anyway. Either way, it was very funny.

Geez. There is no one list that says 'This is what a vampire is, and all the things he can or can't do. This list may never be changed ever in the history of the world'. Every game company, writer, and cartoonist has their own idea of what a vampire is, and what a vampire can and can't do. Marvel vampires are almost nothing like D&D ones, which I venture to say would be substantially different from White Wolf ones, which are different from the ones in different stories that have been written over the years. Vampires, like all other fantastic creatures, are dependant on the setting, the author's preconceptions, and the kinds of mind altering drugs the author has available. Which means they won't be the same everywhere. Obviously, Vilbert can cross water, and it pretty much looked like daylight when they were at his house, so I'd say that his weaknesses are whatever Brian wants them to be, and nothing more.

And I found this hilarious as well. Random explosion = Muchos buenos

To quote Matt Stone (in an interview about Team America: World Police and Jerry Bruckheimer's influence on the film): "Jerry Bruckheimer would never blow up Lille or Dieppe. I mean, who want's to see Lille get blown up? Jerry Bruckheimer would have to go the whole way and blow up Paris".

Anyone else feel this comic has been in some way influenced by Messers Parker and Stone?

He used Fire/Burning Hands to destroy the evidence of his vote-rigging, way the hell back before they had even met King Steve. He also cast some bigass nuke spell to destory a bee (I don't recall exactly when, though). He also has laser eye beams, which he used to annoy someone (Thief, I think) and to destroy Fighter's notes on Sword-chucks shortly after Sarda rewrote a good portion of recent history.

Comic funny. Make me laugh inside and smile outside.

One thing that struck me was how useful and proactive BM was. The group is endangered, he does something about it as opposed to just being evil-jerkwadish. I guess when the rest of the Usual Gang of Idiots isn't nearby, BM doesn't get distracted by his urge to kill them.

Amazing how Bikke doesn't notice all these spells cast by someone standing just pixels away. I pronounce his name Bee-keh, BTW, because that's how the romanji comes out. (I also pronounce Vivi "vee-vee" and Quina "ku-ee-nah." Yes, I'm aware that that's strange.)

That's a strange pronounciation? Thats how everyone I've ever met has pronounced those. Oh well.

I loved this comic. I always supposed that Flare and Meteo would count as level 9 spells, but I guess this shows us that they're not. I'm guessing level 8. BM's uncharacteristic heroness put a smile on my face and I like the almost exclusive use of the overworld sprites. 17 thumbs up.

It is really simple how BM got the teleport spell. Spells are sold in towns. They have been to a town since Gurgu. There was a time in said town when they were all seperated. We know what RM and Fighter were doing, but they didn't say what Thief and BM were doing. It is easily possible that he picked up a teleport spell there.

Dear God, I literally fell of my chair laughing before I got done reading the comic. A long string of hilarious incidents and lines piled on each other with frightening speed. . . it just made me lose control. Wonder what would happen if he'd cast Ice-3 on an iceberg. :)

And the big finish with the side-line comment. . . very Love Hina, I think, or maybe I've read that too much. Uh, except for the randomly exploding iceberg, which in itself is funny on so many levels. WAS it explosion tuesday? Witness:

I really have to ask, did you read my friend's comic mr Clevinger? ^_^

Oh, and to the scheming, probing, speculating masses I must point out Kurosen's post on the first page. (First page if you use 40 posts per page, anyway.) I felt that the mass of spells BM cast was - in part - a stab at those people who compulsively keep track of the characters's abilities, and the post adds salt to injury: They all know (or don't know) whatever spells suits the joke at the moment. :D

Well, BM hasn't had a good track recored with killing people. So far I think his "I stabed/blowd you up/banished you to a place worse then alabama" recored is around ten or so, and all uniportant people too. Imagine what would happen if he tried to Kill a main person?!? Now he has found out he can't kill people outright, and is for more subtle things like putting fighter in the path of fumes, or letting RM stave to death.

Yes, BM seems to have more then one trace of personality because sometimes he helps people. It only happens that some people doesnt understand his special brand of help. And they end screaming. Or burning.

well this episode is definately some of Brians better thinking skills... well UNthinking skills would be better... I think. Webcomic artists are so hard to follow in creativity and thinking... I think that exploding tuesday was just added there for no apparent reason, not because of the Iceberg randomly exploding. If the Iceberg exploded for a reason, then the comic title is HORRIBLY inacurate because it would be a stupid question. Also justifying the explosion removes from some of the funny-ness.

I imagine the story takes place a long time ago, but the day of the week doesn't really give any clues to when exactly. Explosion day is January 1. . .

He destroyed the iceburgs out of self interest. The sinking ship would have killed him too.

Rmag got it right. BM acts only for himself. There is no altruism or companionship, let alone trustworthiness or reliability in him. BM only looks out for one man. BM.

Closed as it is no longer exploding tuesday.
