View Full Version : NPF Voice Chat Room

In the next few days I will be starting up a Nuklear Power voice chat room using Teamspeak (http://www.goteamspeak.com/news.php). If you have a microphone and want to drop by, just click the link and download the program. When I've created the server, I'll post the ip address here. A few people from the AIM chat have already showed interest, so it's looking to be pretty neat. Also, this is the first time I'm trying to host anything from my college computer, so if you experience extreme lag we'll find someone else to host it.
[Edit] We're up and running! Check my next post in this thread to find out how to get to the room.

We're up and running smooth!
Okay, for those of you who haven't used Teamspeak before, here's what you do. First, go to their website I linked to in my first post. Download the client and install it. Go to the menu and click "quick connect". Type in the ip address 209.193.49.59 and your nickname (don't use the "login name" line just yet).
Tomorrow I'll check in first thing in the morning. I will register whoever I see in the room so you are granted more priviledges. I will do this for anyone who comes in. I don't think you need to be registered to use voice, but if you do, just stay in the room until I come in and do it for you.
After you are registered, you can use the login name line and password line when logging in to access your new priviledges. There is also text chat in there, although I still prefer AIM for that.
Whenever you see a white box next to my name with a red X through it, it means I'm away. I'll try to be in as much as possible to make sure it's still running smoothly.
Oh, and you might have to configure your microphone by clicking "settings" on the menu bar and going to "sound input".

I actually want to try it out tonight. 1) because I want to see if you need to be registered to use voice and 2) because I'm impatient. The server will be up all day, though. So drop by any time. I might not be there at the time, but odds are I'll be back soon.

Ive used teamspeak before, but my comupter was wiped. As soon as I download it again, you'll see me there.

The server's behaving pretty good so far, but I guess it will when there's only one person in it. When/if any of you decide to take a visit, if your voice gets bad echoing or feedback in your headphones or speakers, just tell me and I'll tweak the settings. I haven't had a chance to experiment yet because I haven't had anyone to experiment with. So, if anything goes wrong while you're there, a wizard did it.

Well I just tried to get on and it says:
No reply from server
Maybe the server is offline
or maybe teamspeak is not running on it
So I guess your not on. I will try tomorrow^^

Hmmm...well, I changed the server from clan to public, and I'll list the port number here along with the ip address. Maybe you need to add the port number too.
Or, maybe it's just the stupid internet connection here at the college. I'll check if I need certain ports opened by the techs here. For the rest of you, keep trying. :)
[Edit] FIGURED IT OUT! Here's the real ip address. 209.193.49.59 I'll change it in the rest of my posts.
Hm... I just tried it, and I get the same message. I even used to new IP address and still got nothing from it. This looks like a blast and a half, yet it still broken, why?

I think it's because my college gets crap internet. I just checked the bandwidth of the teamspeak server and it says it's getting 20 bytes/second. Maybe if you try later tonight you'll be able to get a response. If not *sigh* I guess someone else is going to have to host it.

Okay, due to Totsumanu being the immortal being that he is, we finally got a server hopefully up and running. Totsu is hosting it on his home computer and plans to keep it open until early this morning. Then it should reopen around 9 or 9:30 EST. This is just a test server for now. We will be looking around for someone else who has a permanently connected computer to continue hosting in the near future.
If you want to try joining in, just follow the directions I've already posted, but with a different ip address I will be adding to each of my posts now. 209.193.49.59
Remember, just use a nickname for now, don't try logging in with a password. If it doesn't work, we may have to register each of you individually before you can get in.

Well, I'm finally in!
But there isn't a bloody person here...

I'm in! I'll just download this program and be there today!
Bob The Mercenary

Okay, apparently Totsu left the server on, so it's open right now, and probably will be all day. WanderingActor and I are in it right now if you want to join in.
[Edit] Oster's in now! w00t!
[Edit2] Either me or Totsu need to be in there to give you voice so you can actually talk, so if neither of us are in there then you'll have to just text chat until then.

Bob and Totsu, you guys are gonna be on at 9, right?
Bob The Mercenary
01-27-2005, 12:56 PM
Probably. I'll try to be. It depends on how long my 6:00 class goes. But, as soon as it finishes I'll be right on.
[Edit] I guess Totsu's wife shut it off. It'll be back on tonight.

Hmm...this sounds like a really great idea. Don't know if I'll be able to get on it tonight, but hopefully I can get in on this next time around.

I am going to leave it on again tonight. Hope everyone is getting on fine when I am not there. Been working great thou^^

Now that I have see what this thing can do for resorces for a day I will now host it full time. I will always be in the room but I will not be talking much till I have a new headset mike.^^
Wha... What's this? I can't get on the server anymore. I know it works for I hav done it before, but for some reason, it says it's not there. This is odd indeed.

My guess is that your ISP does not give you a permanent IP address. This happened to a friend of mine when he tried to host music playable on Winamp somehow.
If this is the case, you're going to need to check and post the IP every time it is switched. A solution for this would be to host it elsewhere...
But I know someone appropiate for this kind of Techno babble... ChaosMage! Try contacting him at the Computer Help thread if the problem persists. :)

My wife just turned it off for some reason. I will turn it back on.
Sorry everyone.:(

02-01-2005, 11:32 AM
Well, I was going to confirm BlackHBMage's opinion that your ISP may not give you a static IP, but I guess that problem has been fixed. On a side note, you may want to check that out anyway. As far as your wife goes, my sugestion is to put a big red sign on the box that says "Warning: Turning off this computer will turn off the Internet." Yeah, I've done it once. It worked too.

02-03-2005, 12:23 AM
Well I had it up for over a day now and no one came on. I will post the IP address again just in case it changed.

I'm not connecting. Are you sure you gave the right ip address out of the two they gave you?
[Edit] Me and Totsu worked it out. The ip's 209.112.214.207.

We have it all fixed right now. The ip's 209.112.214.207. Either Totsu, Wandering Actor, sithdarth or I will most likely be in there to grant you voice rights. We're still having trouble with my voice coming through, but that's most likely due to my horrible college connection.

Sorry guys but my computer restarted and now the IP changed. Here is the new one:

Ok becuase Totsu's IP address likes to skip around we have switched the host of the voice chat. I am now hosting it with my brand new broadband connection and static IP address. The new NPF voice chat can be found at 66.82.9.16. Stop on in and we'll chat if I'm at my comp.
Edit: *smacks self in head repeatedly* I gave the wrong IP address. Now with that and the ports I just opened the server should be up.

Maybe the server is offline
or maybe teamspeak is not running on it" error

Heh, we're working on it. If it's not one problem it's always another. *shrug*

No worries, I am sure it must be hard hosting TS, over a home broadband line.
