Wow, Fighter done screwed up again! :p

Well BM would've done the same thing with his hadoken except more devastating. But I wonder what the Dark Warriors are up to?

It's untitled. Maybe he's still working on that.

RedScar

No that was funny. Thank god it's not exploding Tuesday, or else the sword would have made it go boom. It's just cave in Wenesday. No biggie.

It was an avalanche, not a cave-in. And due to the fact that I have not yet slept, I argue that it is in fact still Monday.

Uh-Oh. I'm, actually pretty worried now, though it might warm up a little now that the door's blocked.

03-01-2005, 12:21 AM
Well, we knew it would happen. My question is: Where did the sword come from, and where are the dark warriors?

aside from the fact that I asked 2 questions, not 1, I still stand by my statement.

Phil
03-01-2005, 12:24 AM
Well it is Tuesday here. Where I am it's evening.

Kahkau

It's still Monday here for another half an hour, because us people up here in minnesota (and everyone else in Central time) are slow... time zone wise. Mostly.

My question is: Where did the sword come from

It fell out of Fighter's (pocket?). He also made this obvious by trying to get it back through the whole episode.

Let's see, they're completely buried in snow and the dark warriors are gone. All that can save them now is a hadoken. Yup, I guess there's just no other choice...

...nope, no other choice. (hint hint Brian)

Hmm. Interesting idea there. Perhaps BM can get hellking powers again, and wipe out the LWs and DWs, about the time WM returns from the beginning of time? It would explain Episode #434 (http://www.nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=040626).

liam_yates
03-01-2005, 02:36 AM
That would be a cool idea (especially seeing as though 434 could be interpreted into that), but I think the Universe should create a double or something, so in this one we could have the grande finale of White Mage and Black Mage fighting it out, but then we go back to the alternate one, in which we're back here and the story continues.

Afgncaap5
03-01-2005, 03:07 AM
That would be cool, though I'd constantly debate which reality was "real." I don't know why my puny little mortal mind can't grasp that both realities can be equally real.

Looks like those who thought the previous episode's title was forshadowing were on to something....

Trixbeat

its called backfiring. Fighter attempts to use a power he doesn't have, so it backfires. Everything's logical (by 8-bit standards)

Phil
03-01-2005, 05:00 AM
I doubt it. He doesn't really have any powers. He was wishful thinking. He's awake anyhow so he could try to wake up the others too, and BM could blast a way out.

You seriously think Brian would forget to put a title in there?

Psycrow
03-01-2005, 05:32 AM
I'm not sure if anyone noticed (I didn't read all the replies yet), but 520 and 521 seem to have titles that refer to the comics *after* them. 521 was the cave-in but 520 was called "Cave Inn", but had nothing to do with an inn or a cave-in. 521 is called "Use the targetting computer. That's what it's there for. ", but there's nothing about a computer, etc here.
Anyway, nice to see Fighter doing some monologue here, how often do we get solo Fighter time :)
Edit: Looks like I was the first to point it out. I deserve a cookie for that
Expect something computer/target related from the next comic, buwahaha

er . . . no.

-'Cave Inn" refers to the fact that the warriors (Light and dark) were sleeping and recharged up.

-the Targeting computer line is from star wars. In star wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Luke is hung upside down in an ice cave by an ice monster, and he uses the force to pick up his lightsaber and cut himself free. therefore the title refers to the inherent star wars reference.

Trixbeat

Who's to say they aren't already dead? This is either gonna end with WM coming or a hadoken from BM. I think.

Bob The Mercenary
03-01-2005, 11:42 AM
521 is called "Use the targetting computer. That's what it's there for. ", but there's nothing about a computer, etc here.

I'm pretty sure he decided on that name because it's a funny allusion to Star Wars, and Fighter's attempt to use "the force" to get his sword back only strengthens the theory. Plus, why didn't Luke just use the targeting computer in addition to the force? He would've pwned the Death Star even faster.

It's because Luke used the force instead of the targeting computer, and Fighter attempted to use the force but it does not exist in 8bit world.
So if Fighter were in the same situation as Luke, he would have to use the targeting computer, since he cannot use the Force.

And using the targeting computer was part of a lack of trust in the Force, thus they are mutually exclusive.

Actually, the title is nearly a direct quote from Thumb Wars.

03-01-2005, 02:10 PM
Shoot...

I was hoping that it'd be called, There is no Try.
(There is only Do and Do Not)

But, I guess, Fighter's example fell into neither of those catagories. He definately did something. (Even though he was only trying, albeit trying VERY HARD) That something simply has nothing to do with the force.

My concept of Episode 434 is that it's Black Mage and Fighter talking in the future, after Black Mage has become Chaos and wiped out the rest of the LW group. It can't be White Mage he's talking too, because thier debating fate vs free will, and White Mage believes in destiny and such.

And yes, I know that in FF 1 Garland was Chaos, but nobody has ever accused Brian of follow FF continuity to damn closely anyways.

As far as THIS comic goes, I think it's pretty good. Not as excellent as some of the past, but even Brian can't pump out extraordinary laughs EVER SINGLE TIME.

what do you mean a "nearly direct quote?" I is an exact quote from thumb wars, just wondering, if we're all Star wars now is Garland Darth Vader??? OMG he's fighter's mother (too much thumb wars)

TO MANY ONAMONTAPIA'S in this episode

I think he's pretty consistent with his wit. It's not easy to get the right balance of humour to please everyone, and Brian does a great job of it. It would also be the more easier style of comics to produce because all he has to do is cut and past the characters into the scene than add the speach bubbles.

Why doesn't Fighter cut them down with one of his 3 other swords?

Also typo in title: shouldn't "targetting" be "targeting?"

The Fifth Power
03-01-2005, 05:24 PM
Because then it wouldn't be funny.

But they must be in the Ice cave, where they get whatever they needed in FFI?

RickZarber
03-01-2005, 05:30 PM
what do you mean a "nearly direct quote?"

As in, he paraphrased. Though upon further thought, I belive the whole thing is actually:

Oobie-Doob: Use the instrument panel, Loke.
Loke: The what?
Oobie-Doob: The instrument panel. That's what it's there for. Advanced weaponry designed to hit small targets.

I could be wrong; I don't have the film on hand. And I before I gave it serious thought, I confused "targeting computer" with "instrument panel". It's entirely likely that Brian wasn't quoting at all, as it's a fairly obvious joke. So I retract any sense of knowing what I was talking about in my first post. I blame sleep deprivation.

look's like thief was the only one who's plan they "used", the use the Ice's natural insulation, GO THIEFActually thief said bulid an igloo. Not all mostfrezze to death, get taken gy a yeti into a ice cave, and then hang from the celling the rest of the night.

No as for when fighter pulls the sword out of the ice(eventually) why so I feel like theres some voice saying "You got the Master Sword!"?

Seriously now (because I want to stay on topic and spaming is bad.) The title title does refer to a star wars item, which is sad because I don't like Star Wars (don't hate me) and I reconigzed it.

I'll assume you had trouble understanding my post. I'll reiterate: Maybe White Mage doesn't believe in fate anymore, being a god and all. I mean, when you're omnipotent, it makes it kinda hard to believe that anything is predestined and not just a really powerful being screwing with everyone.

Ah, a nice Star Wars reference. Just what the world needed. Great comic, too, with the avalance and Fighter try to use the force. Now BM will be woken up, ask Fighter what the heck happened, Fighter will then babble on about the force and such, then Theif will wake up, and steal stuff while its still dark, BM will use a Hadoken to get them out, lighting the place up, reveiling Theif in the process of stealing someone's gold.

I have it all figured out...

Yes, that does pose a problem. After all, he can't Hadoken his way out, because 1) It would cause a cave-in (to add to the avalanche), or 2), the resulting explosion would kill them all.

That's a forest. There's plenty of room for the sheer energy to bleed out.

However, they're now in a sealed-in cave, with no place for the massive excess of energy to go. Thus, they'll take the brunt of it.

You just got Physic'd.

I think you all are forgetting this (http://www.nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=020115) and followed by this (http://www.nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=020117). Clearly showing the use of Hadoken in an enclosed space, that the only noticable victim is Black Mage. I think a few dozen cubic meters of ice and snow would be considerably weaker than an EPS Wall spell.

Afgncaap5
03-02-2005, 03:29 AM
I can see Black Mage casting Hadoken at the entrance, thus removing the snow.

Only to have that cause another avalanche, thus blocking the entrance yet again.

Thus removing Black Mage from the use of Hadoken for the rest of the day. Because fate's mean like that.

I think red mage would still blame it on a failed saveing throw. But besides from that if fighter trys a Jedi trick what other star wars junk will there be. If you think about the yedi was killed and then sleeped in. [aKa Hon Solo 1st shot with the light saber on what they ride things...] with this in mind IM sure they are gonna find an other cave with all sorts of Star War jokes as the number of lukes X-wing or something like that heh XD.

For real...ya Black Mage probly trys to hadoken the rest of the guys but he makes a exit by mistake. Then fighter gets stabed. XD
