View Full Version : Creating a song

I am creating a D&D Rhapsody or Role Playing Rhapsody using the beat of Bohemian Rhapsody. It goes like this:

This is the real life
It's also fantasy
Not in a landslide
An escape from reality.
Take a roll of your dice
Check your attack and see
is it a failure?
Or a natural 20.

I need help in making this better.
((NOTE: I will give credit to all those that help me create this song.))

This looks like fun. I'll work out some lyrics and get back to you. If no one's posted by then, I'll edit this post.

EDIT: and here's the full intro. I got rid of the landslide part because it made no sense.

This is the real life
It's also fantasy
Let's play some tonight,
an escape from reality.
Take a roll of your dice
Check your attack and see
Is it a failure? Did you roll a twenty?
Because sometimes you hit, sometimes you don't
Try again, saving throw.
Anyway the dice rolls, determines if you win or flee,
Or flee.

I started on the rest, but the lyrics were making fun of gamers, so I'll start on the rest later with a fresh mind. You do want this to be more of an ode than a satire, right?

Second edit: See that thing about a natural twenty? No? That's because I changed it to match the original meter.

You might want to work on the syllables in the sentences there. Although they read well, if you sing the words along with the actual song, it's hard to fit it all in without it sounding a little odd.

Is it a failure? Or a natural 20? - Unless it sounds better than when I sing it, it's kind've hard to roll that off the tongue to the tune set.

Good work so far though, guys.

DM, a missed my save.
Didn't mean to roll a 1.
Becuase you know that's just no fun.
DM, the game had just begun.
And now my PC goes away.
Dm, oweo. (any way the dice rolls)
I don't want to die,
but I'll be back with another PC tomorrow.
Carry on, carry on,
as if my guts didn't splatter.

Too late our clerics gone
no more gp to revive
somehow I thought he would survive
But then he's just a cleric
Not very strong its true
Now the party will have to make do
DM oo oo oo
Not another CR 5
I don't think we can beat it on our own
oo oo oo oo oo oo

thanks phil_mike,The_Bear, and Thanatos. I'll present the whole thing when we're done with this. The credit goes to all of your guys, even RaiRai.

You should ask Rhyos to sing it for you. Yes, you should.

While singing along to the lyrics we've written so far with the actual song playing, I found that "(any way the dice rolls)" should go in Thanatos' post, not The_Bear's.

'Cause that's the way Freddie Mercury would want it.

Edit: Now the part everyone likes to sing!

I see a little puny glimmer of a chance,
Whatcha got? Whatcha got? How can we survive this?
Wizard casts ball lightning, 5d6 electrical!
Look we’re winning! Look we’re winning!
Look we’re winning! Look we’re winning!
Look we’re winning! Now let’s go! What a scroll!
Random encounters are very tiring
But we’re rewarded with some precious leveling.
Now we can kill much worse monstrosities!
Hey what’s that, over there? maybe a mind-flayer?
Illithid! Whoa! I think we better go-yeah let’s go!
Illithid! I think we better go-yeah let’s go!
Illithid! I think we better go-yeah let’s go!
I think we better go-yeah let’s go!
I think we better go-yeah let’s go!
Go, go, go, go, go, go, whoa!
Man, he’s gaining, he’s so gaining! Hey, is Haste a spell you know?

Woahwoahwaitwotcha. Me? Sing? I do Sinatra-esque. =B
And it'll probably be a week before my voice gets back up to snuff. Change in seasons = nasty head stuff. This morning, I woke up with my mouth completely dry. I tried to clear it, and I swear, I ripped something. >_<

I've been actually singing it to my friends. When my voice holds out. Oh btw, almost all the lines if sung propperl fit the syllables

Someone needs to do the Beelzebub part. I can't think of anything witty enough to be worthy of screeching at the top of my (or Rhyos') lungs. I propose that RaiRai or Rhyos writes it, as they've contributed to the conversation but not the song.

Haha, what is this? Pick on RaiRai day?

I wanted just to be the nosey neighbour in this situation. I don't play DnD, so I wouldn't know what to write. And I'm sure I just dragged Rhyos into this situation because he has a hot singing voice.

And the syllables are slightly off, if you sing it along with the song. I'm sure it's easily rectified, if not achievable, just with my accent, it doesn't sound right.
