After debating with myself and myself for several minutes on where to post this thread, I went with this one instead of in the comedy topics, despite my amusement over the whole situation. Now, to business!
It seems there are a few people who have marked the latest pope as a sign of the end of the world. You read it right... the end is coming. Soon. Yar.
Personally, I say it's the same kind of "chicken little" stuff that's been going around in the propaganda circles for as long as I can remember, but I'd still be interested in hearing your takes on it. So, let's read and discuss.
P.S. Just a reminder, no flaming anyone's religion here. Believe or disbelieve the claims about this pope and prophecy as you like, just don't go bashing religion for your personal agendas.

Wow.. hadn't heard of this prophecy..But then again just look at any prophecy and you can see how it could apply to the current times...
Nostradamus and the coming of the third anti-christ, it was a rather detailed description, and though I don't have my book on hand it was something about a turban and some other stuff, but it describes quite a few arab activists, including Osama.
Mark XIII, v8. "For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom agaisnt kingdom; and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginning of sorrows." Words of christ describing the beginning of the end of days. War on terror, Tsunami, Etheopia...
Hell.. I've even heard people claim that global warming is the start of the fires that will consume us all at Ragnarok. That the battel between teh gods is concluding, and that the heat is a result from Surt marching towards the battle...
Alone most of them just seem like they are useless words told by someone jsut trying to get attention or special treatment. But A lot of prophecies say that the end is near, and I'm fairly sure that this is probably the most accurate time for most of these prophecies to be accurate.. so in the words of Dennis Leary "Light 'em up people, cause we're goin down!"

Frankly, this is a fairly hard topic to bring up without bringing in religion. I mean a lot of this paranoia doomsday prophecy type stuff has to do with the Rapture.
And the thing is, the type of people who buy into this type of thinking, are also the types that see signs everywhere, includding potato chips that look like religious figures & the like.
Although, I can't say that I'm a big *FAN* of the Pope (because of the Hitler youth thing & his apparent hardline stance), but I'm not going to peg the end of the world on him yet.

"You think the end of the world is coming?"
"Naw. So says the preacher man, but I don't go by what he says."

That's from the CD I just happened to be listening to as I read this. One thing that always confuses me about these doomsday predictions and the Christians that follow them; I was raised Christian, and one thing I remember very clearly was Bible readings that always said that no one could predict Christ's return. That the end of the world would happen when least expected, and so forth. So, yeah. Even as a religious youth I could never understand stuff like this. But then, if there's one thing religion has in spades, it's contradictions.
(I hope that wasn't too out of bounds as far as religion is concerned. I know it's always a touchy subject here.)

You do know that ALL German boys had to be in the Hitler youth, right? and that he was excused from it when he started studying to be a priest?
I give points to this prophecy because it actually names specific events. I hate the prophecies that are like "in the future, something will happen. to a person." Then, like, Billy stubs his toe and everyone is like "THE PROPECY WAS TRUE!". I hate that.
Personally, I hope He destroys the world with Zombies.

O joy, another armeggedon prophecy. Like I haven't heard that before.
Anyway, I got one theory for Armeggedon, so I'll let ya in on it.

I don't think this forum is capable of talking about eschatology without editorializing about religion, as RickZarber's post demonstrates. Closing.
...Mostly I just wanted an excuse to use "eschatology" in a sentence.
