That one was funny. Yay!
But i'm suprised still no WM/Sarda plot tangents

Brilliant. That was very funny.

What is going on with Bikke's face in the second frame?

Oh good ol' Fighter. Keepin' it real. Real dumb.

But damn that Red Mage. I wanted to hear what the name of the city was. Because if it's Seaside, that would mean we are close to Kraken. And I half expected him to say "I don't speak common." To Vilbert.

Fighter is a good counterpart to Garland.
Thief is a good counterpart to Drizz'l.
Red Mage is a good counterpart to Vilbert.
But... I just don't see any match between Black Mage and Bikke. Aside from the fact that they both have no problem with killing their own teammates.

That's his thinking pose.

And Fighter never ceases of amaze me. One would think that by now he would reconizie Garland.

Good job Fighter, don't let them onto you. Great comic, this one made me laugh out loud! I hope BM kills Fighter again for that little act.

We can't be the Kracken.

What's next is the Bahamut meeting.

Dr.GoldenClaw
05-03-2005, 12:10 AM
Barrrrrhhh! I didn't go meet Bahamut until I cleared out the Underwater Shrine. Speaking of which...I wonder if Brian is going to bother making Mermaid sprites or not. Hmmm.

Anyway, in most FF faqs, it is recommended to go nowhere NEAR the Castle of Ordeals until you've been seasoned through the quest for the Water Orb. It's not the Castle that will kill you. But the journey getting there. Those friggin Barrettes (or however you spell it) that roam around near the area will kill you with extreme prejudice if you try and sneak in a class upgrade too early in your levels. Though that might be funny to put in the comic.

Brilliant!!! Thats 8 comics in a row that have made me laugh out loud. But what facial expression is Bikke trying to make in the first panel?

CHICAGO¤lollie

First panel? That's his normal face.

I should've expected Fighter. That was just downright typically funny of him. :B

I think Garland makes a good counterpart for Fighter because they're bothbird brained, pea brained, deadheads, boneheads, blockheads, knuckleheads, squareheads, jugheads, saps, twerps, turkeys, air-heads and ding-a-lings. For lack of a better word.

On the other hand, Fighter's also a great fighter just like Drizz'l. While Drizz'l is smart just like Black Mage. Vilbert's perfect counter part is of course, Red Mage. Thief's counterpart should be Bike, since they're both lawless men. So yeah, yeah I would put Garland with Fighter.

You know, you would think the DW actually notice who they're talking to. This is casting more doubt onto how they killed the yeti.

The easier thing to do, overall, is to take the boat there and park it in front of that little lake that's right in front of the castle. It's a much shorter walk, and far less likely to run into random death.

Perhaps they'll get rejected by Bahamut. It's unlikely that Thief would become Ninja, so proably none of them will change class.

Garland - Fighter - dim bulbs
Drizz'l - Thief - elves
Vilbert - Red Mage - LARPers
Bikke - Black Mage - "aw man, how'd I get stuck with THIS loser?" "shut up, yar" "HADOKEN!!!" "yaaaarrrrrr, my arse!"

Blarg beaten to it.....I did this and didnt get a single fight going to or coming from the castle.....and I did this before I beat Kary....my first stop once I got the canoe was the ice cave for the floater. (Got to love that "Run" command from every battle, then just go back later and loot the chests.) Also saves the canoe ride for the volcano muhahaha.

And BTW there was no orb of ice........air water fire earth were the 4 orbs..the item found in the ice cave was the floater which allowed you to get the airship.

Quick edit: BTW this is 8bt...brian COULD in theory make an orb of ice...and while is at it could make a heart orb and by the orb powers combined.......CAPTAIN CLEVINGER!!!! This is brians comic and he can do as he pleases.

Kima Azure

Yeah, but that sorta thing is annoying. Anyway, I wonder what'll happen next. Probably a battle which will be full of stupidity. (Why couldn't they do that in the original game? Having you fight four Dark Warriors several times?)

Heh, I totally broke what you're supposed to do...
(this is the order I did the game)
Earth Cave
Castle of Ordeals
Ice Cave
Waterfall
Water Shrine
Air Castle (can't remeber its name)
Fire Cave
Chaos

After leveling up on that little pennisula near the pirates, I just kept putting off the fire cave, lol.

Up until now BM has always been self consious about people seeing his face. How do you think he would react if bahamut told him he wouldn't get to wear his hat anymore? HADOKEN!!!!!!!

Brian's already on record as saying he isn't going to use the FF1 sprites after the class change.

He'll probably use the new FF1 sprites, from the GBA game. But will he also upgrade the world too?

Carnivore

As I recall, the sprites Brian will be using are sprites from Final Fantasy 3 (Japanese version) except for Thief.

Dr.GoldenClaw
05-03-2005, 03:47 PM
Indeed. Why change from FF1 sprites? Using them for so long and them dropping them? I can't imagine that happening. Not successfully, anyway. Some things are just better off constant.

You guys kinda are forgetting the other DWs, like Kary and the Lich. Technically the match up is

Kary Vs. BM
Lich Vs. WM
Gillbert Vs. RM
Bikke Vs. Thief
Garland Vs. BB
That elven guy missing his swords Vs Fighter

Sadly, Bb's dead So garland's fine, or perhaps it's

Garland Vs. Garland.

Cybren

I'm sure that, even if there was a class change, that the party will mess up somehow. I can't imagine Black mage being any different.

Syka
05-03-2005, 05:51 PM
WHAAAAAAAAAZZZUUUUUUUUUPPPPP!!! Sorry I just had to do that.

Oh yeah as for the topic:
Seeing as Brian writes the comic he makes the matches. Also Kary and Lich are dead. Black Belt is also dead, and who knows what will happen with WM. Drizz'l and Theif match because they are both evil elves, Fighter and Garland match because they're idiots, Red Mage and Vilbert match because of their geekiness, and Black Mage and Bikke both think they're sane and the smart ones (they're actually both the dumbest in case you can't tell). OK, that's my 12 cents.

Kima Azure

Curiously, I was thinking about that short-lived phrase a couple days ago.

And death is binary. You either are dead or ye aint! You can't be deader than someone else. You can, however, have a higher rating of obliteration on your corpse than someone else. But I'm sure God is tired of hearing about all the bragging from that, as it is. He didn't want to have to put up with being "Deader" as well.

Though I'm confused at Black Belt's death. Kary did slice him up good, and supposedly that's how he died. Black Mage later said something about scraping Black Belt's remains off the roof of the volcano. I remember the volcano exploding and all that where Black Belt would supposedly be blown to bits...and.. uhh.. I don't know where I'm going with this. Forget I said this last paragraph.

PyrosNine
05-03-2005, 08:59 PM
We'll see Lich again, and odds are anyone else the group has killed and sent to hell will come back with him. He promised it, and Kary's going to come with him.

He's kinda the evil white mage because he kinda 'heals' his allies by bringing them back from the dead.

As for Kary, the similarity was expressed when BM tells her if she wasn't half snake, he'd be on her "like blood on my knife".

Dr.GoldenClaw
05-03-2005, 10:40 PM
Well of COURSE they'll be back, you silly boy. Haven't you played the original game? You fight all 4 fiends again in the Temple of Fiends when the party goes 2000 years into the past. Lich is revamped with Nuke/Flare when you fight him the second time, though.

And yeah. I'd be on Kary too, if she wasn't half-snake. And if she didn't have some sort of "Body Flames" spell-like ability which any fire-affiliated monstrousity should have. Body Flames to Fire Demons are like Black Candles to Pisco Demons, m'man.

And lastly, Kary is basically a Marilith, right? Shouldn't she have a second rack? That's how it went in Icewind Dale, if I do remember correctly. Damn was that woman a tough kill. Yzunoxumnei or some fuggin' long name like that, I believe.

RedScar
05-03-2005, 11:10 PM
Ya they come back, and lich is Hell King! Anyways I think tat changeing the sprites is horrible. If you use the newest sprites then Black Mage kepts his hat but gains pixels. The "real light warriors"(Why do you call them that. You know that only the true heros would be put in a comic as great as this.) have the other sprites. The only reasonible awanser is to kept them the same.

...

Or run around screaming and paincing if they change.

Brian has explicitly stated that he will NOT make a new comic after 8-Bit Theater ends. Fortunately, at this rate, the comic will reach Episode 1000 before it does end, so there'll be plenty of 8-Bit fun for years to come.

What will we do when it ends? Our lives will once more be without meaning! Will we all turn into Trekkies or something similarly frightening in order to ease the pain in our broken hearts and to fill the empty gaping hole left within our soul once 8-Bit Theatre is gone? Or will we break? WILL THE MADNESS FINALLY CONSUME US ALL!?!

Luckily, we still have many years of 8-bit before we have to worry about THE END. Like the eventual death of our golden sun, it is an inevitable event in the distant future that will either kill us or our children. Hopefully the children. Little brats. :bmage:

The Water Orb isn't in the Ice Cave. It's in the Sunken Shrine, off of Onrac. The Floater/Levistone is in the Ice Cave, but I'm unsure as to whether or not they found it. It doesn't look like they did.

Square-Enix shows no signs of dying. The same way Pixar shows no sign of dying. Both have huge futures. Every day I see something that ties to Square-Enix in 7 branches or less.

Let me give you a stupid example. Let's use...Ghost in the Shell.

Music by Yoko Kanno --> Yoko Kanno has worked with Cowboy Bebop --> Cowboy Bebop has 'Vicious' --> 'Vicious' is heavily inspired by 'Sephiroth'. And practically one of the first Sephiroth clones.

That's only 4 branches. It's a small world, ain't it? For Square-Enix it is. Friggin' big and evil company!
