I have played MGS4. I've been replaying it recently.
I may be in the minority, but I actually appreciate the bittersweet resolution Kojima offered in the ultimate ending. I won't include spoilers here just because this can be seen by the public community. But an ending that wasn't a complete downer, yet one that didn't let Snake entirely off the hook...that struck a perfect balance for me. Anything more depressing would have probably ruined the series for me, whereas a deus ex machina that resulted in Snake emerging unscathed would have struck me as ludicrous.

If anything, my biggest complaints with MGS4 were with Naomi and Big Boss -- massive plot holes and inconsistencies were left unresolved with both characters, and unlike with previous titles, this time around there's no hope that a sequel will resolve the mess.

Actually, MGS4 is still my least favorite Metal Gear Solid. Which still means it's a very good game. It just didn't feel as revolutionary as the former titles, and while the cutscenes were awesome, the ratio between cutscenes and gameplay was even more skewed against meaningful interactivity than ever.

Hey now, I'm *Solid Snake.* Losing battles are the kinds of battles I'm known to win, against all odds. =)
(On a slightly related note: I have to confess that gazing upon my avatar daily, and replaying MGS4, has led me to soften my view on the Snake/Otacon pairing. I still can't wholeheartedly support it, as I've been a huge Snake/Meryl fan since 1998. But if Kojima were to declare your favorite couple canon, I wouldn't convulse in horror anymore. Progress?)

As for that crazy quiz you're taking...you know, I'm going to disagree with you on one point. I don't think true MGS fans are the types who should know anything about the number of rungs on an unimportant ladder in MGS3. True MGS fanatics act as Solid Snake would: don't dwell on the esoteric and the useless, concentrate solely on the mission. Anyone who went through MGS3 counting ladder rungs isn't a real MGS fan; they're just obsessive-compulsive gamers.

...I really need to pick up a copy of this MGS novel, don't I?
Also, you keep mentioning these MGS fangirl friends of yours but you have yet to hook me up with any of them. I'm Solid Snake -- the man, the myth, the legend, the object of their obsessions! You need to do them a favor and let them know where to find me.

Hah, I'm just glad I'm not the only MGS fanboy on these forums. (In fact, I think you probably narrowly edge me as the series' biggest fan, despite my username.)
...But, jeez, fifty friends? I didn't even know there were fifty unique users here! You're like NPF's version of the popular chick in high school that everyone's insanely jealous of and/or trying to sleep with.

Hey if I remember correctly you're the one who linked Head Trip in the webcomics thread a super long time ago.

Just recently it started updating again after a very long hiatus.
