Bios wont recognize RAM upgrade
So, I just installed an extra GB of RAM into my computer, according to crucial, it can handle up to 2 GB, with 1 GB in each of it's slots, but it'll only recognize 1 GB. I Tested both slots, and both RAM sticks, and they work fine, but if I put both sticks at the same time, only one will get recognized. My PC has a clean reinstall of Windows XP x32, with no stuff installed ATM, it's not even online right now because I haven't installed the antivirus. My sticks are both Kingston KVR533D2N4/1g, but one is taller than the other one. Any ideas guys?

Why isn't this archaic machine in a museum somewhere?

You mention Crucial when talking about what your computer can handle but then Kingston when mentioning the RAM chips (two memory companies). What's the actual motherboard model or computer brand/model, and are there potentially any quirks there (need to use certain DIMM slots, timing issues, etc.)? Also, despite being the same model number, if I am reading that post correctly, the difference in size could mean that aspects of the RAM have changed between production times. I have 4 GB in my rig, though I bought the second 2 GB pair a few years after putting it together. Despite being the same manufacturer and model number/part number, it had different timings than the original pair (they had changed the defaults in order to be more available to more motherboards); however, that didn't affect the detection of the RAM -- I just had to set them to the better timings.

Because my laptop will be away for a while (I hope it's back this week), and since my bro and sis will be using this PC, an extra GB didn't seem like a bad idea.

EDIT: ok, I have now installed ESET blah blah trial, google chrome and the video drivers, now I'll go and install Everest or Sandra or whatever I find a trial for, so that I can get the motherboard info. EDIT número dos: so, it seems I have one of this http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support...oards/d102ggc2. I'll check if I can do anything in while someone replies Yet another EDIT: So, I upgraded the MB bios to the latest version (2007? damn, that's old o_o) and still nothing. Also, even though the sticks have the exact same model, one of them has 16 black thingies, 8 on each side. The other one has just 8 on one side and is shorter, could this be the problem here?
