Default Job Hunting with Tactical E-mail Assault

So, right now i've just sended 186 e-mails with my CV in it to various job agencies and companies of my town and nearby cities.

That was... tiresome.

It was actually 275, but quite a few of those returned as non-existing (old listings) so i had to update my Address book.

However i do have one concern lately... Jo Hunting via e-mail seems more practical at first and simply more effective, however i did notice one thing in one of those returned e-mails. One of my 275 tries were declined because my e-mail server was considered to be SPAM.

Now, i don't know if it was because of my e-mail or not, but it did raised some concerns about my method.

You see, by foot, door to door, company to company, on a good day i would be able to deliver around 30 CV's. The problem is that all too often i heard the stories and have seen it by myself happen more than once... the situation where you deliver your CV at the front desk of a Company (that as far as most of them will let you go without an appointment), and on the next day those CV's would be used by the security officers to write down license plates of cars in the company.

So... i have little faith left in Door-to-Door job hunting right now. As via e-mail i can deliver 5X more CV's in the same timeframe, make sure that in most of the cases the right person gets it, and even save money in the process.

However, as i'm still jobless, i must question the effectiveness of it.

So, what your guys take on it? Should i just keep mining for Companies CV's and press onwards or some change should be applied here?

I just took a class on this and there's one important thing to keep in mind: sending out resumes and applications via email is just as ineffective as sending out paper copies if you aren't following the basic rules of both. Follow up, check back, and put effort forth. A lot of people use email resumes as a crutch and send out hundreds with no success because they simply don't follow the basic rules of job-seeking.

In my opinion the best way to apply for a job is to call first, to ask whether they're looking for someone in whichever position and if you should send them your resume.

This has worked for me twice, but I live on another continent, so maybe things are different where you're at.

Pretty much 90% of all decent jobs around here are in the Offshore and Oil industry, so it has slowed down quite a bit last year, i'm hoping it will pick up now in the start of 2010, so i'm basically "Zerg Rushing" the market for a job.

In my area (Safety Technician) it's a tad harder because i don't have former experiences in the field, so i'm tackling both Safety Jobs and Adminstrative ones, where i have experience.

After the E-mail Barrage goes trough i'll start getting phone numbers and given calls, and when that's done i already have a ton of addresses that i'll take to Google Maps and Make a Precision routed Map of companies to go.

I'm basically turning job hunting into a nice little obsessive-maniacal hobby
