"I Don't Fucking Care" or "Steam; Awful or Terrible?"
Fuck Steam.
I like the online market place. I think that's nice - I can buy lots of neat games for low prices. Everything after that is so unbelievably frustrating. I don't care; I just want to play my game. I don't care that who the fuck is playing what the fuck, I don't care about the badges or whatever the fucking fuck I get in my inventory for no fucking reason. I don't understand why I've got an inventory in the first place. It's not a social media platform. I don't want the Steam overlay in the background, draining resources and forcing me to run games on lower setting to compensate. What pisses me of the most is the Steam keyboard. Recently bought a PS4 controller because I like using a controller for gaming and I heard that Steam worked really well with PS4 controllers. Aside from setting it up - the only place I could is in the full screen mode, which seems a little fucking egotistical because fuck Steam, you're a game service, not a control center, but the Steam keyboard pops up randomly whether I press the button or not, and it doesn't pause. Fuck that noise. Let's assume that you game on a PC, which is a safe guess seeing as how you've got Steam. Let's assume you've got a keyboard, too, just to go crazy. Why in the fuck would you use a keyboard you control with the controller instead of the keyboard in front of you? And you say "Seil, it's fine! What's the big problem with Steam interrupting your game for five seconds with a useless piece of shit?" Let's assume you're playing a game like Inside, which requires you to move and act quickly, and randomly interrupt game play every so often that takes away your control. Let's assume you're playing Dragon Age, where instead of losing five seconds of progress, you lose five hours because of something you couldn't control or predict. You say "Why don't you just turn the keyboard off?" Because you can't. If there was an option to do away with Steam entirely, I'd click that shit so hard. But Steam is content to try to be a web browser, Facebook, iTunes and now, funnily enough, a game console that might actually let you play games without any ancillary bullshit. They're wearing too many hats, which is funny when you think about it. |

Can't speak to the rest of it, but if you (or anyone else) didn't know, it's really easy to turn this off. Just right-click>Properties on any game in your library and un-check the Steam overlay option, or go to View>Settings>In-Game to un-check and disable it for all games!

You could always download DS4Windows, a program that tricks your computer into thinking your PS4 Controller is an Xbox controller. That way you aren't reliant on Steam (or it's "Big Picture Mode"). Only issue is for games that detect the controller and give corresponding button prompts, it'll give you the xbox buttons.

And you can uncheck all the notification boxes. Sadly you can't disable the green envelope notification from popping up when you get a new item in your inventory. Quote:
Anyway, I just tried playing Inside on Big Picture Mode and between pushing the regular buttons and even pushing steam's shortcut for the onscreen keyboard, I never managed to get the onscreen keyboard to pop up. Does it pop up randomly even if you are pushing no buttons? Or is it while you're doing something with the controller? Some quick google searches show that if Big Picture Mode is minimized then pushing in the left thumbstick will cause the keyboard to pop up, but I never got that to happen for Inside. So yeah, not really sure what could be causing that issue for you outside of maybe messing up configuring your ps4 controller in steam? All of my tests I did with a ps4 controller while using DS4Windows, so my pc/steam thought it was an xbox controller, so that might be why I can't replicate the issue.
