Wii Games For Christmas: Any Suggestions
So my B-Day and Christmas are coming up and all I've been able to come up with for gift ideas are John Hodgman's two books and some biking stuff. Not wanting a bunch of gift certificates to places I probably won't go, I'm trying to think up some Wii games.
Now, there are some stipulations: The Wii is mine, but I leave it out in our common room so that it can be enjoyed by all of my roommates (an agreement that also includes them leaving out an Xbox360 and PS3). Since I don't want to be seen as the nerdy guy, any long and single-player heavy games are kind of out. In addition, we already have SSBB, Mario Kart Wii, Boom Blox, and Wii Sports, and I've been out of the gaming loop too long to know if Nintendo has released a new killer multiplayer game. Hence, I come to you guys for suggestions, or else I'll probably try and angle for a Tivo subscription.

Super Mario Galaxy can be played by two people. I would say that's the preferred method. You can play as Mario and let someone in your group not well versed in video games help you. Makes for really fun times.
De Blob is a good multiplayer platformer with a really interesting aesthetic. Do get it. EXCITE TRUUUUUUCK. No questions. Just do it. Geometry Wars is cheap and great for parties. Try to find games in the Virtual Console that are good for multiplayer parties. Mario Kart 64 could be a goodie. Also, Secret of Mana can be played by three people, but I think that's too nerdy for you. Last edited by Regulus Tera; 11-26-2008 at 11:15 PM. |

We have ridiculous amounts of fun playing Mario Olympics Decathlons but it didn't get very good reviews so hard to tell.

I'd say forget about looking nerdy and just get No More Heroes and Okami.

Pitch black and covered in soot.

Super Mario Galaxy isn't really much of a party game, but the structure of the game makes it easy for a person to just pick up and beat a galaxy or whatever, not to mention the co-op mode. Also it's fucking awesome and you should get it anyway.

What about Dokapon Kingdom? It's a Mario Partyesque game of swords, magics and stats.

It also has a huge learning curve and a nearly useless instruction booklet. It takes weeks to finish a Story Mode game, and that's the best mode I've played so far (I need to try Battle Royale mode), but you can play Normal Mode and just see who's worth the most after as many weeks as you like (you can change the number mid-game, too).
But, if you have friends who can stand to play a game that hates you, pits you against each other, and takes forever, then, yeah, Dokapon fo' sho'. It's unique, addicting, and way more fun than it should be.
