Desert Bus For Hope
http://desertbus.org/
So, the guys from loadingreadyrun.com (The Unskipable guys on the Escapist) are going for their 3rd Desert Bus Ride, live, online. All funds raised go to Child's Play, and in 2008 they go 70k out of this! They also award prizes during the thing, so, really, everybody wins. And now we have a Thread to follow these guys and their exciting "Let's play-ish" adventure of the most boring game ever designed! Who is following it? |

Once again I will be in charge of all things chat related... but once again, I will not be up in Victoria sadly.
So last year, I tried to make it up to Desert Bus only to completely fail due to not having enough notice before hand and not being able to get tickets in time... resulting in me ending up being stuck in Jersey moderating the chat from my home computer the entire time. This year was gonna be a different story... I was gonna be a winner! I was gonna be somebody! Months of planning and plotting things leading up to the very week before Desert Bus III (Desert Bus VI in Japan) and everything was looking great... bought my plane tickets to head up there, made plans to meet up with a few LRR fourmites, and then draw funny faces on Alex in permanent marker while he slept in the same room as me. And then disaster struck... Originally I was under the impression that when traveling to Canada from the US, a Passport was unneeded. I had never been out of the US before and thus had no use for ever getting a passport. Sadly this critical miscalculation was to be my very undoing. Apparently on June 1st this year, a new law was put into effect requiring all people traveling to and from the great land of Canadia to have a passport. Due to it being too soon seeing as how my flight was suppose to leave Thursday morning from Philly at 8 am, there is no possible way for me to acquire any official papers to allow me to journey up to the mighty third generation of Desert Bus in time. It is with great regret and a heavy heart that I must inform you all that once again, I will not be able to attend Desert Bus for Hope this year. I will be following along watching the Driver Cam every step of the way like last year as well as wielding the mighty BanMjolnir with such a fury and vengeance that I take pity upon any chat spammer or rule breaker who gets within my striking range. Maybe next year for Desert Bus IV DS, I will be finally able to attend this glorious event in person but until then it must remain but a dream in the corner of my mind. |

They pulled 11k in just 2 hours, and there is 98 more to go. I think they just might beat the 70k mark this year!

Lookit that Wunderbaum go! It must be hanging by a rubber cord.
This whole event brings to mind something Douglas Adams wrote while climbing Kilimanjaro dressed in a rhino suit, about how the most great and powerful can be persuaded to give any amount of money to a charity as long as you're willing to perform some silly task for their amusement. (Or possibly just for publicity.) It's cool. PS. I think last year I watched it and I got banned from the chat for posting links. The link in question was www.freerice.com. Worth it.

Hey, cool! I loved this last year, I'm looking forward to seeing them torture themselves again. Was wondering when it was going to get started this year.

And so Desert Bus ended... AT 132k
Wow... that is a hell of an amount, almost 25% of all Child's Play funds this year have come from Desert Bus! That is crazy! |
