Default Epic Moments

Slightly different from the stupid heroics and epic moments thread we had last time, this thread is purely about just the greatest ever moments in videogaming, the parts you'd play over and over again just because of how much fun and how awesome they were.

See I finally got around to playing Half life 2 recently and it has some of the most epic moments I've ever played. For instance, the assault on Nova Prospekt with an endless army of Antlions at your command was a truely empowering moment. After spending the last few hours driving up the coast under constant threat of these giant bugs that live beneath the sands, you suddenly find yourself in possession of a weapon that can control them. You then begin to lead a one man attack against the impregnable cliftop fortress prison of Nova Prospekt with an endless supply of killer insects. Just seeing them all swarming across the prison rooftops and chasing down the Combine soldiers is immensely satisfying. As you head inside the battle between the Antlions and the Combine intensifies into a full blown war and the entire place starts to fall apart around you as every single Antlion in the area descends upon the prison. Antlions are now my most favoured ally ever because of this.

Another epic moment in HL2 occurs in episode 2 and also features Antlions, only this time you're fighting against them again. The setup is thus; infinite ammo crates, 20 or so mines, 4 entrances to the area, 2 movable auto-gun turrets and 1 injured main character awaiting medical treatment. Oh and an entire nest of pissed off Antlions on the way. You can see where this is going. You have to defend the injured npc, using the mines and the turrets to guard the tunnel entrances. Each tunnel has indicator lights to show how big an approaching swarm is. 1 Light can easily be dealt with by an auto turret, 3 lights means imminent disaster. It starts off easily enough, a couple of tunnels start showing 1 light and you don't have to worry too much, but pretty soon 3 tunnels are lit up and Antlions are getting in. Your turrets eventually fall and you're soon out of mines, but reinforcments arrive in the form of 3 Vortigaunts (alien allies who can shoot electricity). Then the real attack begins as all 4 tunnels light up fully and bugs start flooding into the area. What follows next is 5 minutes of non-stop electrical ballistic death as you try to stem the tide. It's without doubt the most exciting gunfight I've ever played and is pure epic.

So, what do you think are some of the greatest and most epic moments in gaming history?

I would like to go right ahead and nominate the final boss battle in Wind Waker.

Because you simply cannot beat fighting The Ultimate Evil in a swordfight, with him wielding dual katanas himself, under a cascade of water as the world around you is being drowned, with the Princess Zelda shooting light arrows to help you.

And then you fucking impale him in the skull with the Master Sword.

Every battle in Super Smash Bros. Brawl against you guys has been epic so far (except against BHBM because FUCK SUPER SONIC).

I know I say shit about KHII all the time, but damn me if that last barrage of super bosses in The World That Never Was wasn't epic.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Escaping from the Shagohod while battling to it I don't know how many times and then fighting The Boss.

No More Heroes. Every single boss.

I would say MOTHER 3's fight against Porky is something epic if you had waited since EarthBound to do what you had to do there. And Giygas. Best endboss battle ever.

When I was younger it was anything from Spyro the dragon for the playstation or Crash Bandicoot 2.
As for now, Silent Hill 2 when you're stuck in the closet watching Pyramid Head contort this manniquin things, and he almost finds you in the process.
Yes.

Half-Life 2, besides what Hawk mentioned. Pretty much all of it. Especially when you have the suped-up gravity gun and you are just running around ripping consoles out of the walls and incinerating people with a lightning bolt gravity push thing. And the beginning when you are just one guy with a crowbar running and gunning against highly trained soldiers, still managing to win as you dash from room to room, barely making it out alive. God, I love that game...

The end of Halo was pretty awesome. With the warthog.

Shadow of the Colossus.

I loved in Mechassault when you were in one of the last levels, and you're running around in this little suit of body armour avoiding huge lethal death-machines, and then midway through you find an even BIGGER death machine.

Also, 3rd level of the Terran campaign in Starcraft.

To be honost, I've played the wedding scene in FFX and the ending to FF9 more times than I can count. I can't help it, the whole wedding part was just awesome, and, being dumb, I didn't completely see who would be in the cloak at the end of FF9 so that was a great moment for me, because I'm a hopeless romantic when it comes to stuff like that.

The final battle in Ocarina of Time. I don't care who you are or how easy he actually is, seeing Ganon rise from the rubble is freaky (and awesome) as heck. Epic battle ensues.

Bridge of Eldin horse-back battle in Twilight Princess, because damn do I love fighting on horseback. Great atmosphere too. Actually, Twilight Princess did a great job with the atmosphere for most of the boss fights, I thought.

First Ridley battle in Metroid Prime 3, that is hardcore awesome.

And since I'm playing Mother 3 right now, I would say the battle with the Big Scary Pig Mask (the DCMC fan) because, honostly, nothing can say "epic" more than being able to stun the boss by flashing him your underwear.

Playing the Dark Crusade single player campaign on normal, as the Imperial Guard, there's this mission where you get a limited amount of troops, no building capabilities whatsoever, and you're told to raze the enemy base to the ground.

Odds would seem against you, however as an Imperial Guard you get 2 baneblades (superomgwtf tank) and a couple of other very fancy & powerful squads. What follows next is an absolutely epic battle, explosions & artillery fire & shootings everywhere; all along while listening to Dragonforce - TTFAF.

EPIC.
