ahhh the good old music
now im not too old considering im a freshman and all but music and video games are my life. mostly cause my mom prefers id be a social outcast and ruins all my friendships and relationships but that doesnt matter. what does is this sudden disrespect for all the great oldie bands. like led zeppelin, pink floyd, jimi hendrix, acdc and others are getting tossed aside by the new media. sure most of them havent had anything new (granted some of them are dead) but that doesnt mean that theyre used up. sure linkin parks great, and so is some of the other bands out there but i still think these oldies should get the respect that they deserve

I agree. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd Jimmi Hendrix,The Beatles, Crosby, Stills and Nash, and other bands/musicians of the past completely own the music of Brittany Spears, Eminem and others. There's still good music today, but I haven't found anything comparable to the bands I listed. And I'm only 16, too.

Let's not forget the Ramones, Pixies, Toadies, and other bands that existed during and pushed forward the immergence of punk rock. Damn kids these days got no respect for their elders. I tells ya, if it weren't for the pixies the Ramones wouldn't be around, and if not for the Ramones all this hard rock you durn kids listen to these days wouldn't be around. Linkin Park? Hah... damn whippersnappers... don't give any respect to the people being really angsty really loudly before them.
...Only about the first sentence of that was 100 percent serious. Oh, and if you want good music of today try Boy Hits Car, MSI, and Sinch... off the top of my head. I'm not good at remembering band names, so I'd have to look at my play list to give you more than that. And Boy Hits Car is my highest recommendation. You can get some mp3s and listen to their Java Jukebox (kinda low quality, the jukebox that is, but it works) on their website www.boyhitscar.com So... go. They are punk rock, though... so don't expect Jimi Hendrix-like music.

For the old-school fix: Jethro Tull, the Beatles (late albums) and jazz stuff are the only things I listen to much.
For the 80's, early 90's stuff: The Pixies, Foetus, NIN are good. But I still prefer the really new stuff: 311, Incubus, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Cave-In, and some turntable-dub are always good. |

I respect all music(despite not liking certain types..or rather not prefering them.)...
Zepplin, Floyd..all of those..I love them. But I agree that todays music seems to forget its roots abit. Mostly things I hear on the radio or TV(of the rock variation) sound like some guys who just learned how to do Power Chords or "Drop D" Style power chords(for any guitar nerds out there who know what im talking about). Today I try to listen to the most talented bands I can find. so far the most talented seem to be Thrice, Coheed and Cambria, and Avenged Sevenfold. I know theres more out there, but these guys know their instruments well. System of a Down is also very talented becuase of their use of jazz influenced riffs and such. Most of these other bands out now just annoy me. save a few. And people do forget about good bands aswell. Im a child of the 90s..so I remember most of those bands people tend to forget. The Toadies, STP, Seven Mary 3 and things of that nature.

How could you guys forget Nirvana? That band was awesome!
There is some new stuff that is pretty good, but I'm sick of this crap called "Hip Hop" or whatever. (50 Cent, Eminem, all the rappers with "Lil'" as the first part of their names)

Blasphemy I say. First of all, despite the ongoing debate of whether rap and hip hop can be called the same thing(I am here to assure you that..theres NO WAY IN HELL they are.)..I do not, Ever, in my entire existence want to hear the "Lil"'s and 50 cent mentioned with hip hop ever again. If you want GOOD hip Hop(Read: Its not going to be on the radio..), you need to check out Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Qwel, Del the Funky Homosapien(Actually any video game/anime head needs to hear this guy), El-P, Mr. Lif, Copywrite78, Jakki Da MotaMouth, Weathermen, Cage, and Tame One. Theres alot more I could list, but those guys have something for everyone. Jakki and Copy are battlers. Atmosphere, Aesop, Lif and El-P are deeper than the marianas trench. Tame One is nice. Cage is horrorcore, and the weathermen just rock.
