Is "bester" anything like "better?"
If so, I cannot voice an opinion in support of either game, as I have not played Splinter Cell.

I'd say Metal Gear Solid's storyline kicks not only Splinter Cell's, but every other game's ass. However, I think Sam Fisher would always have a tactical advantage over Snake if they ever fought each other. Sure, Snake has a sneaking suit and is just plain badass, but he can't light himself up like a Christmas tree with LED lights and still remain invisible like Sam.
Advantage: Sam Fisher Best Game: Metal Gear Most Badass Video Game Hero Ever: Solid Snake

This is tough. I own both the original Splinter Cell (Gamecube) and Metal Gear Solid (can't attest to the other ones, havn't played them yet, though i will be playing MGS3 as soon as I finish MGS, which, no I've never played up to this point. Heresy.). Splinter Cell certainly has some of the neater gadgets going on for it, but I have to give the vote to MGS. MGS created Splinter Cell's genre. Splinter Cell certainly does some neat new stuff with it, such as diffusing bombs, laying bomb traps for other guard etc. I have to say that MGS is in many ways better. If I blow up a guard with C4 in Splinter Cell, the one guard who is the guy's partner comes running. If I get caught by a security camera in MGS, every mofo on the floor comes running. MGS doesn't coddle mistakes like that. C4 isn't stealth.
MGS did more for its time. Props unto it. |

MGS storylines are interesting when you're playing through, but afterwards it was just cheesy.
Person 1: I'm the master! Person 2: HAHA! I used you! I'm in control! Person 3: AHAHA! I used you BOTH! I AM THE MASTER! 1: You fool! I tricked you all into thinking I was tricked! 2: HAhaha! I tricked you into thinking you tricked me with your tricks! Person 3: ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US!!! Game over (OR IS IT!?) That and the over-the-top stuff I have to endure while playing it (Such as The Pain summoning a Tommy Gun through bees, or Revolver's 10 minute gun-whirling video) really turns it off for me in the storyline, but the game is so much fun I stick it out. I like MGS the game better but Splinter Cell is much much mre interesting of a storyline - probably since, I dunno, TOM CLANCY made it.

I never got into Splinter Cell, but I love MGS. I haven't beat (or got far) In Splinter Cell, so it might be a little biased, but I loved MGS's wierd plots.

Well, There are some things to consider for both sides.... Snake is definitely the more badass one. But, Sam Fisher has tons more gadgets. And, Fisher's game is not almost a movie, which is a big plus (I once spent a half hour in a long cutscene in MGS 2 without even pressing buttons....)
However, Sammy does have to, kind of bow down to his daddy Snake, in that stealth-action as we know it was created by MGS. Then again, Sammy ahs taken the old boat, and improved it heavily. He has his own array of light sensors, and the kick-ass looking night vision goggles. My veredict, however, goes to Snake, by a very close call. VERY close. While light sensors are cool, the truth is I'd rather have a complex plot (as MGS games always have....). And, Splinter Cell original is rather simplistic, with a few cool twists, but nothing to have you hanging on the edge of your seat. Mostly the action that rocks. IMO, anyways.

MGS is tough to like after playing through part 3. 3 was good, but only when I viewed it as a comedy. Between all the bond crap (that opening theme song was AWFUL..."someday, you might eat a TREEE FROGGG!!!") and the plot that made no sense (a mobile medium range nuke platform made no sense, given that the game even mentions ICBMs existence) and the lack of research (the shot of the newspaper announcing the landing on the moon in the opening, which happened in 1969, not 1964), it was really hard to take it seriously. I really think Kojima is sick of the series, and is doing his best to let the world know that. Now 2, i will contend, was brilliant, and i think he wanted to leave it there.
