WARNING: All Participants of Anti-Spyware Threads
Hello everyone. In a recent thread called something along the lines of "We need an army to fight all the spyware" Lockeownzj00 posted a link to Peer Guardian. I promptly downloaded it, and upon installing McAfee warned me that some Spyware had been bundled with it. So, for anyone who has downloaded Peer Guardian recently: http://methlabs.org/howtotell
You can acquire a safe copy of Peer Guardian from http://methlabs.org EDIT: I have fixed the spelling of Locke's name =P Last edited by ChaosMage; 08-30-2004 at 03:28 PM. |

HRslammR: Well, that's horribly wrong.
Chaos: good thing you noticed. I was hoping you'd all download directly from that link, and nowhere else. Stupid people make evil versions. it's a great program. If you have any other questions, ask me.

I tried downloading directly from the link but I either couldn't find the download link or it wasn't working.
I've got a question though. How do I change my options, cuz every time I open Peer Guardian it goes to my system tray and disappears. |

It doesn't disappear. Click it and it will come up.

No, it disappears. As in, I go to click the icon and the icon disappears. I click the little arrow to expose hidden icons, and its still not there.

Ad-Aware is good. It's the best free-ware one I've seen, certainly. And, for that matter, it's the only one I've seen that can pick up and delete that damned "About:Blank" thing where your browser is hijacked, and you can't go to sites such as sourceforge or hotmail. Anyway, Ad-aware is good, but it no doubt is not the best. And that link for PeerGuardian doesn't work.

PeerGuardian is not a spyware searching program. It blocks IPs of certain trojan/spyware groups and corporations, like the RIAA or MPAA. If you h ave the huge list, it also blocks the military and edu.

Off topic, but Locke, in your signature - the Cost of War site... I remember when that was at 50 billion! Nearly forgot about it. I wonder if it's still accurate?
