Installed new graphics card; computer is now sluggish.
So, I was using an old Radeon x1300 which, though it has served me well, is simply no longer capable of running what I want it to run. I grabbed a GeForce GTX 650ti and the first thing I noticed was that windows took WAY longer to boot up (almost twice as long). I finished removing the old drivers and installed the new ones (the installation alone took like 20 minutes).
I did some poking around to see if I could figure out what the problem was. Windows device manager reported the graphics card functioning properly, but the 'Marvell 91 xx Config ATA device' apparantly didn't have drivers. Windows couldn't fix it so I googled the problem and what I gathered is that it's an issue with the motherboard's drivers. So, I went to the MSI website and found my board and downloaded their recommended updater (LiveUpdate 5). Once it finally installed and launched (which, again, took a LONG time) I selected a bunch of updates for it to download, but the automatic updater failed, giving me this error message. So then I found their directions *LINK TO DIRECTIONS* for updating the BIOS directly from a thumb drive but when I tried it, my computer actually froze. I gave it a while to work, but when it was clear it wasn't doing anything I turned it off, said a little prayer, and restarted. Thankfully, it started up just fine and I figured I needed to get some outside input before I brick my system. I should note that after this I've had my computer running and everything seems to be fine except for the sluggishness. Games that my old card couldn't run now run fine (excepting longer load times). System Specs: -Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) -Intel core i7 950 -12GB RAM -MSI Big Bang motherboard (Model #:MS-7666) -GeForce GTX 650ti (replacing a Radeon x1300) -Antec 550W power supply

I would recommend that you manually update all your drivers if that's an option. Generally you can find the individual drivers on the mobo manufacturer website and do them one at a time. Marvel generally provides SATA drive controllers and I'm almost certain that your particular problem is that your memory controller driver is corrupted somehow.
I'm not terribly familiar with modern MSI mobos specifically, but I've had the most success with bios reflashes using a flash drive type application like the one you mentioned. I'd say if you really want to be thorough backup your data, reflash your bios, reformat your primary drive, reinstall windows and then manually install all of your drivers. |
