Scientific Method - Survival - The Metagame
I was going to pitch this as a forum game... but it didnt "feel" like a game.
It felt more like a discussion with a ruleset. I guess you can call it a Metagame, but im not so sure. If the mods want to place it on the Game Forum, that would be just fine too anyways. This type of game can be played wit any scenario, really: "How to conquer the world" "how to commit the perfect crime" "how to become famous and rich" whatever. The main point is a group of people Brainstorming within the realm of reality using Scientific Method (as much as possible) The goal is simple. To Create a Plan. One plan, near flawless, to ensure survival. To achieve this goal, you must be yourself. You are in your home, in your city, state and country. And now, all you have is an online connection to create a plan for survival. You must take in account that the only people you can trully depend on are the people here. The people creating the plan with you. People must take roles and responsabilties that they can actually fufill. Provide knowledge, ideas and input to create a plan and fix any and all flaws if there is to be a true chance of survival. This is the Scenario: Zombie Apocalypse (classic). There are zombies everywhere now, and the only way to survive is to band together and get help. This Zombies are of the viral type. A Flu-like virus that Kills, and then, people rise. These zombies dont feel pain, dont sleep. The walk in average, half the speed a normal human being does. They dont run. They can get up if they fall. They die if the brain is too damaged or destroy. They have little body strenght because their muscles dont work too well. If you get bitten, a Horse-like dosage of Antibiotics is known to destroy the virus, but only is given within the first hour of infection. Only salive and blood can pass the virus, and the virus needs a body to live. Spilled blood and salive wont work if left alone for a couple of hours. It became a known fact that it is possible to make the Zombies not notice you if you mask your natural odor with a really strong foul one. The Plan You have the entire world. You need to pick a place where all of you can find a way to go to (even if some have to take more risk than others). As long as you stay in your house, you're safe. But as long as you step outside your house, you need to have a direction, or you'll probably get killed. You must think of EVERYTHING. You need to have weapons? Where would you get it? How would you carry it? Food? Medicine? A Car? everything. Transport: This is the only thing you have. A Boat. Big enough for 20 People + Supply, and it is 100% clean all the time. Any of you who can make it to shore will have a boat. So now, the "game" is on. What's the Plan internet people? Were do we go now? |

How are animals affected? Immune? Equally susceptible to the virus? Only larger animals?
Decay: Is it a standard corpse timeline? So I could go to sea for a month and return to find most of the zombies rotted away? Is it more of a Zombie Survival Guide situation where zombies can stave off significant decay for years on end? What can we assume we have stocked? I know I keep myself stocked with 2 zombie-killing weapons at all times(no, I'm totally serious, I'm a paranoid kinda guy) and a decent supply of food. Assuming I had these, I would take my camping gear, head north to Lake Superior to hop on my boat.

Some animals seem to die if wounded, but so far only monkeys were "reborn" as zombies (just for kicks)
although zombie monkeys only last a couple of months. Human-lke zombies can easily sustain a decade or two by feeding of pretty much any source of protein they can find (even other zombies) You have in stock what you have in stock. This is you, now. It's a MacGyver situation. You have to deal with the now with just what you got. |

Dammit. I would be much better prepared were I at home. I am on a college campus, though, which provides certain benefits. For one, lots of food in the cafeteria. I'm also in a huge population center, though, which is bad. And lack of... driving is a problem. I am probably a goner, in all honesty.

Sounds fun.
Okay, well, I'm on a college campus too (a rather large one), so I can get a lot of stuff from places nearby. However, what's the risk factor here? Does the fact that it's a campus mean it's a lot more dangerous (i.e. lots of people = lots of zombies?)? And I also have a car, but it's across campus.

I am prepared for this so hard. I have several battle-ready knives (A couple I made myself, others made for utilitarian purposes.), tons of canned food, three backpacks to use, two woodsplitting axes, a shotgun, a scythe, sledgehammers, shovels, cars, fourwheelers, stores of gas, a well for water, a generator, an air compressor and portable tank, an air compressor that can run off a cigarette lighter...Flashlights, all manner of tools, hand hatchets, hand scythes, this...big thing, its like an axe handle, but doubly long, and it has a foot-long, flat single edged shovel blade at the end. It would be the ULTIMATE zombie killing weapon...Anyway, crowbars, uh...Nowhere near big cities or anything, house is perfect for zombie defense...
/Rant So, screw you guys, I've got it made in the case of a zombie outbreak. |

I live on the West coast, and I always figured I'd flee to the coast and hide on the boat. Getting to the shore is the problem; cars are pretty useless because a) they can't ram zombies well (they're noit made for that, and are surprising fragile) b) they need gas, which may become a problem later on, c) they're loud (do the zombies hear?) and the highways are likely blocked up anyway. I don't even know how to drive, past what I've seen others do, though that'd not really be a problem if the zombies can't even open doors. I have a bike, so I'd use that. I'd make my way West on bike, with a back-pack full of food and my machete. I'd would wear heavy cloathing and my brother's gas-mask (or paintball mask, with some modification to prevent ingestion of blood or what have you). I'd rest at the top of buildings, where I'm sure the zombies would have a hard time getting too (especially places where the only way up is a ladder [McDonald's?]). The problem is then the swarm. If I'm lucky, they won't even know I'm there. If they do swarm... depends on the swarms size. If it's 5 feet thick around the building, then I'd probably shove my way through, Dead Rising style (they're weak, right? And I have a machete, so good for me). More than that, I dunno. More shoving I guess, seeing as I don't have an explosive or anything, though I might find some along the way. reaching the coast, I'd stock-up on more food (I know my way to SeaSide, a wonderful port town), get on boat, and try to find other NPFers I guess, if we're the only ones left. I have a cell-phone, so I'd give that out; might not even be useful though, if any cell-tower is damaged or the electricity goes out. I don't really know though; they're zombies, what would they really do? |

So, i guess we all should maybe move in to TDK's House?
Remeber, no matter how well you're packed, eventually you WILL get low on supplies, mad with fear or somesuch... Zombie survival requires ONE thing in the real world: a Team. You can only last so much alone. And even if you can survive 10 years in that type of situation, you would clearly be too broken to rejoin society in the future and would eventually just kill yourself. So, Argent Lord and Cati have acess to computer labs, chemetry labs and Eletronic devices. TDK has... a lot. Draconismaster has extra guns. This is good, this is all good. But we're all apart. How do we get togther? We only have Cars and Boats so far. Where do we go? With most of this we could maybe get together with TDK and from there go somewhere else, but where is that? We probably need more people to get more resources. |

Actually, wait, yeah. If I can get to the Detroit River and find a boat, I'm home free. I'd assume we could all set up a plan to meet at a specific offshore oil rig or somesuch place, clear it of what zombies are there, and try to set up a little self-contained city.

If at all possible, secure and reinforce a prison. Start farming and other such food preparitory projects if the weather allows. Try and use manual generators at almost all times, switching off between people. Have a set, regular schedule and group exercises, as well as fun games and activities to keep everyone as happy and calm as possible. Plan a backup base in case this one gets overrun. Other than that, try not to get bitten.
Also, no rescuing people outside. Bad idea. They will either be a threat to the team, or rescuing them will put us at too much of a risk.
