It's out...
Brisingr, the third book in the Inheritance cycle (Yes, he is making a fourth,) has just come out.
I wanted to know y'all's feelings on the subject. I personally, liked the books from the start, mainly because, at the time I read them, there was nothing else that interested me out at the time. This time however, I find myself coming into posession of two books simultaneously, them being Brisingr, and Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in the excellent Twilight series. I don't know if it's because I read them both so close to each other or what, but Brisingr didn't have the same spark as the others did.

Twilight? Eragon?
Gir, no offense, but we need to get you pointed towards some good literature. And I have just the site to explain why exactly both series are so terrible. Go read through it. Twilight sucks, but Eragon is just horrible. Last edited by Mr.Bookworm; 09-24-2008 at 10:46 AM. |

I'm almost totally sure it's possible to criticize a book without making personal remarks about the person who likes it.
Why don't you have a seat right over there for the next, oh call it a week. Or maybe two.

I suppose it's a good reason I never picked them up. If they're so riddled with plot holes I'd probably go into a writer's seizure halfway through.
I would like to thank everyone for pointing me towards these hilarious sites, though.

If it weren't for all the money this has likely made him, I'd feel a certain amount of pity for the author. We all wrote some real crap we would really like to forget when we were just starting (I recall with a shudder, essentially stealing the characters from Lodoss War when I was thirteen, giving them terrible names, and putting them in a plot involving dark elves). Most of us have that luxury. This guy won't.
Anyway, I feel inclined to reassure Gir that it's okay to like them after the response to this thread. I think they're only really bad to those of us who've been reading fantasy for a long time, because they seem to represent almost everything that can go wrong with modern fantasy.

Nothing irks me more than a writer getting millions just cause he 'knows people.'

I've been wondering, does Brisingr follow the plot of Return of the Jedi, or does the Star Wars motif end with Eldest?
