City of Heroes Bandwagon. Welcome one and all!
Just saw the post Brian made about switching over to City of Heroes.
Just wanted to let him know that I'm following the same path as he did. And what with the NDA being lifted just yesterday, I'm free to tell anyone I want that I'm in the beta, and how to find me. So for all you folks that managed to get into the CoH Beta period, send me a PM or email, and say Hello! |

as a FFXI player(who never gets to play) I'm interested in how you see CoH as better than FFXI. Im already familiar with CoH from about a year or so ago when they were just starting their beta, beyond that I havent kept up with any changes. So can we get a few detail? Price? Lag? how it runs on your computer? what the game play is like compared to FFXI? Is it more of a solo game? or a group game(like FFXI is)? Are there really cool advantages for guilds?

Well, the game is realy expensive (for me, that is)
you need to pay a price to buy the game at start (forgot the price :s) then 15$ per month if you wanna keep playing it. I've heard from somebdy they will do 25 servers of the game(PURE romurs! [miss spelled,i know]), so i dont expect lag. it isnt that of a solo game, becuse you can chosse from 5 diffrend Archtypes, all with their advantges\dissadvatnges (missspelled, i know) So ppl will have to join guilds to fight bigger challnges... i heard from beta users that some places in the game are hard, so having a guild with players with their own +\- will sure help :s |

I'm sorta wondering about the variety of the characters. Was there a whole bunch of wolverines, supermans, and batmans running around or was there a lot of variety?

I'm also leaving FFXI for CoH. Mainly because FFXI just got really really boring for me in the higher levels (50-ish). But I've been playing the CoH beta for awhile now, and it's just a really smooth game. The customization in character creation is incredible, no two people will ever look the same, and the way the powers are set up you have a lot of freedom in what you want to be.
In the beginning, like most MMORPGs, it's easy to solo with just about anything but eventually you do have to start teaming up in order to complete missions. Once you start getting missions where you fight bosses and such, it can't get very challenging to do alone. There aren't too many superhero wannabes running around really. Not as many as I thought there would be. In the beta, at least, I've only seen a couple people who are trying to mimic actual superheroes. There is tons of variety. Anyways, it's a cool game. I recommend it to anybody who is getting bored of FFXI. |

The only powers that really are missing are ones that they'd have a really hard time doing with their graphics engine, or they just wouldn't be implemented right. Like there's no wall-crawling for the spidey fans, and there's no shape-shifting and stuff like that, just because it'd be hard to do.
What I'd like to see is some more technology oriented "powers", so somebody like Batman would be more possible. You can make someone with straight martial arts abilities.. but it's just not the same without the gadgets. Other than that, they have pretty much everything I could think of. |

it looks interesting and ill definately check it out, but who knows if they'll ever come up with a way to eliminate the level grind.
