Crazy? Deviant? Care to share? (Or, help a college student!)
(I hope this is an alright spot for this.)
In one of my college classes, we're studying deviance. One of the requirements is to have a case history for someone who is in some way deviant by the end of the semester, so I come to you in hopes of finding someone willing to be interviewed. The requirements are: -Must be either diagnosed crazy, demonstrably strange, or somehow really deviant (for instance, the way these fellows are.) -Must be willing to be interviewed about personal history, quite probably from childhood on. -I won't question your diagnoses or stories or whatever, but please, no fakes. Your actual interview would be private (unless you request otherwise), but the ultimate case history would be shared with my class, of about 15 people and one professor. It can take place however you prefer (phone, email, posts on here if privacy isn't an issue, or if you live in the New York area or can commute, in person). You can put up a brief history/diagnosis/whatever or just express interest here, and we'll talk.

unless some of you really have gone out of your way
1) I hope you have legitimate and proper IRB approval.
2) I'm not convinced this is the best place to ask? Social ineptitude may be here, perhaps, but I'm going to guess you'll get a lot of folks tripping over themselves to try to be edgy and "devious" but fall short.

^ Well, we do have a large Asperger's community.
Past that, though, I think the craziest people you'll find here are fanboys/girls, artists, writers, and myself with my programming projects. Edit: Oh, and furries. No offense. But seriously, there's a lot.

Your teacher is telling you to go and actively seek out someone who has been "diagnosed crazy, demonstrably strange, or somehow really deviant"? Are you sure that's the exact requirement, because when I studied deviance in sociology it didn't necessarilly mean the person was certifiably out of their mind. You could probably just question someone with a small criminal record, as in shoplifting or something of a similar caliber.
Also, isn't that a little demeaning to the person you're interviewing. I mean I'm assuming you're going to have to tell the person the purpose of the interview, I just think they might take a little offence when you tell them "hey, I need someone who fits this archetype and you came to mind." Not that I'm saying those would be your words, but this teacher obviously doesn't know you have a forum of anonymous people to query for this thing.

I would volunteer, but I'd probably just find out how normal I was, so instead, I'll just wait for people to post saying, "I am the crazy! I turn beavers into gold!"

I was concerned about the demeaningness, but one of the things I learned is how normal deviance can be, and how deviant deviant behavior can be as well.
I also included a link to the Yes Men as an example of "Robin Hood deviance" (doing something bad but being generally seen as good) to try to illustrate that, no, you don't have to be nuts. If anyone's read The Anthropologist on Mars by Oliver Sacks (which includes fellows like a totally color blind painter, a guy mentally stuck in 1968 or so, and an anthropologist with Asperger's who is overwhelmed by the complexity of human emotion (paraphrased from the book) ) that'd be another good example of what I'm looking for. Essentially, deviant means different in a way we pay (or would pay, if we knew) attention to is all. Whether that attention is really warranted or not, or negative or not, is not important. To illustrate, let me name the four kinds of deviance as I've learned them: Robin Hood ('bad' deeds, but good reactions. Criminal (bad deeds and reaction) Rate Buster ('good' deeds, but bad reaction) Sports stars, Einstein (good deeds and reaction) On top of that, there's people who are actually crazy, people with personality disorders, and people with strange physical crap happening to them (like a guy in South Africa who believed he was pregnant and actually had some of the physical symptoms happen, or people who die after being told they will when absolutely nothing else is wrong with them). So, yeah. Sorry if anyone was offended. For what it may be worth, I consider myself at least a little deviant and quite proud of it. ^^' And, the actual criteria were vaguer than that. I dunno. The entire subject can be pretty vague. That said, I'm studying it in psych, so its possible (though I'll grant unlikely) that the approach is different. And, I thought I'd ask here cause 1) I'm VERY shy about going out into, say, Union Square and asking people, and 2) my gut tells me the people here are more interesting than any of the run-of-the-mill examples I could find elsewhere.

I'm what you'd call cuckoo; cuckoo for COCOA PUFFS, a nutritious and chocolatey part of this complete breakfast!
Wait wait, I've got another one: I'd love to talk to you about how crazy I am; crazy about our new lower-than-ever long distance rates! Quote:

I'm up for it in PM, I've got one or two deviances, and I know a few people who would be comfortable talking to you about theirs.
