Rate the Game Thread
Ok, If the title makes no sence, then read this. You choose any game, Recently released, or a personal fave, you rate it here. Rating will be from a scale of 0-10 (I give that option so that if a game is so horrible, that it can't be played by even the stupidest of monkeys couln't play and it deserves a 0, you can give it that score)
You can also give a review of the game. What you liked about it, what you didn't like about it, etc. Well, ready, set, GO EDIT: You are free to review betas if u are a beta tester.

Alrighty. My kind of topic.
OK the thing is, FFX-2. I really wanted to like it. I seriously did. But the fact is I just couldn't. There were so many things that could've been right, and so many things that should've been right too. I give it like a 4, and give you this link. It explains why so much better than I can.

Ripped straight from the pages of my website's review page, I present to you the review of Einhänder.
Game: Einhänder(PlayStation) Genre: Flight shooter Rating: 10 Review: This is a game I like. To my knowledge, it was Squaresoft's first and only attempt at a ship shooter. And they did a nice job; graphics, music...the difficulty is obscene, even on the easiest difficulty. You gotta contantly play this game; I played it for a month straight and got really far, but then I put it down for a few weeks and when I picked it back up, it was as if I was just started over again. You don't save in the traditional sense of the word; you save the weapons you pick up. You always start from the beginning of the game. Also, the camera changes angles, which can sometimes make it easier for you to fight or sometimes make it harder. But it's still fun, because it doesn't stay in one set position at all times. You get to choose the style of ship you want; one with three secondary weapons that you can exchange between and one machinegun, one with one secondary weapon and two machineguns, and one with two "secondary" weapons(secondary is in quotations because they're actually your main weapons now) and no machineguns. As for the plot, there's a war between the Earth and the moon, and you're a mercenary from the moon who's putting a stop to the Earth's plans by wrecking their stuff. I know more about the storyline, but that's be a spoiler. This game has been long since out of production, which is sad considering how great it was, but if you happen to find a copy, pick it up and play it. |

Game: Smackdown! Here Comes the Pain!
System: PS2 Rating 9 It came this close to being a totaly awesome game. the graphics, sound, gameplay and difficulty were absolutely amazing, but the lack of perfection comes with the Create a Character option. every character ends up looking like a monkey, a fish, or some other deformed animal. but awesome other than that. Rent It!!!

Gladius
Platforms: Gamecube, PS2, X-Box Rating: 9 Review: A game that slipped under the proverbial radar. Excellent combination of strategy and action elements in the battle system, a skill system with plenty of options for optimum customization, and cast of colorful classes with highly specialized abilities. Plot was a little on the weak side, but it was made up for by the superiority of the gameplay. As a side note, the best American voice acting in an RPG that I've ever seen.

Yes, I was born for this. Those who can't, judge!
Game: Gitaroo-Man Score: 8 Description: The music genre is pretty new by todays standards, and contains what I feel is the last bit of pure gameplay in todays video-game era. While other games are driven by immense plots and deep characters, the musical genre rolls along on simple intertaining gameplay, like pong, or tetris. This is why I look favorably towards the music genre to make game makers realize that they arn't in the movie business. Gitaroo Man just happens to have one of the best game systems I've ever seen in a music game. Unlike Parappa, where you tap buttons in order, you use the analog stick to trace a note and the buttons to dodge musical "attacks." The system is strange to describe, but it works beautifully, and has one of the best learning curves, in which you can catch on pretty easily in the beginning, but it takes alot to master it. Another thing going for Gitaroo-Man is its flashy graphics and quirky personality. Everything is weird, and if you'll allow me to use a noun as an adjective, everything is very... japan. Keyboard spaceships, Dj Robot Sharks, and soul men in bumble bee costumes all wait to try to destroy you. And last of all, the most important part of a music game; the music. The soundtrack to this game is incredibly varied, even though the game itself is somewhat short. I don't think there is a one track I didn't like, from the generic rock song, to the dub reggae song, to the j-pop techno song, I loved it all. In the end, this game carries over an energy that just screams "play me!" Despite its short story mode, the multiplayer and the master mode will keep you jammin' for a long time. and another, because I love to see my own words... Game: Ico Rating: 9 Description: How dare you! How dare everyone avoid this excellent game! I picked up Ico recently at best buy for about 15 bucks, and I'm saddened that such a great game didn't fly off the shelves. Oh well. Enough about me, onto the game. It would be wrong to group Ico with any other game available on the PS2. Ico looks just like another 3D platformer with pretty graphics, but looks are deceiving. In truth, Ico has more to thank from Myst and Syberia than Mario 64 or Crash Bandicoot. It is a pure puzzle game, nothing more. And that, my friends, is wonderful. Ico's story is an interesting one: A horned boy is blamed for all of a town's problems, and on his thirteenth birthday, is brought to a castle to be locked in a chamber in order to bring peace back to the village. You are that boy. In a strange twist of fate, you are freed from your chains, only to find yourself locked in the castle. Exploring leads you to find a glowing girl who you can't communicate, and who has some power to open up certain doors. Along with this girl come creatures of darkness that try to take her away. You must keep her safe, all while trying to escape the castle for the sake of both of you. One thing to note about Ico is the lack of any status gauges on screen, or even in the game. You have no life, no magic, no map, nothing. The screen is completely free of meters and gauges and numbers, nothing but the land and your avatar. Another thing is that your character cannot be killed, except by a large fall. The only way to lose, besides falling a HUGE distance, is to let the girl be sucked into the darkness by the dark creatures. I'm glad about this, because it helps you to focus on the puzzles, which there are a lot of. The puzzles in the game are mainly based on exploration, and can be figured out (so far) pretty quickly. All it takes is a good eye and some thought. Though I wouldn't lable the puzzles hard, I can say that they are rewarding, and thats all thats really needed. Another thing I'm glad about is the way the game presents its mission: protect the girl. In just about every other game, escort missions suck. I just can't say it any other way, they suck. In this game, which could be seen as a huge escort mission, it works. The girl doesn't wander off into danger, or get in your way, she is more of an extension of your character. It works so beautifully, and adds a new dimension to puzzle solving. So, in the end, if you like games like Myst, or any other of the old point and click adventures, you should try Ico. It brings that aura into the new world. Besides that, its only fifteen bucks, man. What are you, cheap?

Thank you so much for mentioning Gitaroo Man.
Ninja Gaiden 10 I can't think of a single reason not to like this game. And I'm trying real hard. You start out the game with the Dragon Sword and shirukens. Functinal, but nothing spectacular. By the time you're near the end of the game you've got an arsenal of weapons to unleash. Each of them - spare the naunchaku - are upgradeable to become better and better and unlock more techs. The plot isn't very 'gripping' but you'll at least know why you're fighting some alien chick who shoots magic missile at you, or why some outrageously hot girl in a leather 'combat outfit' AKA bikini is covered in slime and having the Dead or Alive's own Ayane helping her up. I'm not lying either. anyway, graphics are absolutely crisp, the game is really fucking hard to the point where you will want to scream in joy when you kill the boss. Unlockable goodies as you get through each mode, like Ninja Gaiden 1-3 for instance, extra costumes and weapons too. That, and the fact is, it's fun. It's fun to play, and it's got a wonderful learning curve. By the time you're on chapter 10 load up a new game and go back to those white Hayabusa ninjas in the first level you were having so much trouble with. They're fucking CAKE by now. I can't rank this game any higher. It's fucking sweet.
