Xbox Live on the original Xbox?

So now that I'm at college I can finally actually get internet hooked up to my old-school Xbox. I want to grab the downloadable content for KOTOR because I'm bored and want to play it. Problem? It doesn't work. I set up an account on the Xbox site, recovered it to the Xbox, then tried to log in. It tells me there are messages I need to read before logging in, then says that I have no messages, and boots me to the login screen. When I try downloading through the option in-game, it tells me that the Live needs to update my Xbox, sits there a while, then tells me it's not responding and to try again later. Anyone know what to do?

Fair chance they took the old Xbox Live servers down when they set up the new system.
But don't quote me on that.

Nope. One of the first things I checked was if they still ran. There were shutdown rumors, but nothing came of them. Thankee, though.

Have you checked with the network admins that this will be ok? It may be being blocked by the uni firewall.

Ah. This is true. I figured if it was that, it would have been blocked at the login stage, though. Is this an inaccurate assumption?

Not quite sure. The login and the patch may well use different ports. Either way you should clear this sort of thing with them before attempting it.

It's worth mentioning that I had a similar problem when I hooked up my Classic Xbox to Live when it first came out, back before I learned how to do networks myself.
