1337, or Something like it.
To me, there are four levels of gamerhood.
1337 Hardcore Casual Fanboy (I hate them so much). And to be truly 1337....The people who are 1337 are those who write the strategy guides, never use cheats, know several programming languages, can anti hack, and have beaten Ninja Gaiden on Hard. Or the people who make the games that we love. Them too. Just a thought...

1337 = 12 year olds and AOLers Hardcore = people who play every aspect of a game, such as all difficulty levels and finding extra items/secrets Casual = most of us video gamers, just looking for a good time and to have some fun Fanboy = people who post in "WITCH CONSEWL IS BEDTAR?!! OMG?~!" threads without having useful contributions or admit they are posting opinions.

I don't see what the point of catorgarizing is... I mean, man all these labels. We should just all 'be'. peace out man. *Goes into hippy mode*

Yeah, man...can't we all just play? Play a game, huddled around the hearth of the home and sing Kumbaya as we blast those damn aliens back to whatever and kill the ninjas that killed our family and took our clay...We're all just people.

Not with those fanboys around. They'd refuse to play the game because the console sucked. For no apparent reason.

Man, synkronized, you're really beating up on that console thread, aren't you?
Anyway, as a sad sap who spends way too much time on the internet, I'd say I have a different definition than you, which may or may not, or may, agree more with synkronized, of the leet. Thats right. I spelled it normally, what up now!? People just game. i don't really put it into groups, we all have different periods. I'll stay away from a console for months sometimes, until I get a game like Ico or Gitaroo Man or Albert Odyssey that grabs me and makes me play constantly. Oh, and on a sidenote about "Teh 1337." I once kind-of, sort of bad mouthed them on my blog. Called them exactly what Synkronized did, basically. A half hour after I posted, My firewall caught an intrusion attempt. I know, its just a coincidence, but its still kind of funny. In defense of the leet: They probably got some good points...

1337 can be good, but depends on who is doing it. First there are the original CS hackers who used 1337 so admin's had no idea what they were saying, which is more of the `/()|_| 6() 7|-|3R3. Then you have 12 year old AOLers, which is R0XX0R5 j00 B0XX0R5!!!111!!1. The latter is the 1337 everyone thinks of because it's more commonly used.
As for categories, if you were going to make categories, it would be much more then just four. You would need to sort it by games played, how well played, how often played, etc, etc.

Perhaps the solution would best be to avoid them, which I usually do, but it's difficult when there are so many. Agreed, there are people who can hold such conversations well, but I too often find myself beating my head into the wall whilst trying to understand some of it. As far as "leet" itself -- sure, it had reasons for existing, but most of its use today is a bastardized, horrid form employed by the oh-so-intelligent amongst us. On a side note, just go ahead and type my username as it appears to avoid several different variations of it. I know, the zero makes it fairly lame, but I liked it.
