Emblem Divide
I just started reading this new sci-fi thriller book called Emblem Divide. You can find it on his website where he is posting chapters up every two days in hope for donations to select charities.
So far, I think it's pretty damn good and I anticipate further chapter releases. And you, community of NPF, should also give it a shot!

Well, it's not phenomenal but if he only spends two days on each chapter I guess I can't fault it. Probably about the same quality as your average NaNoWriMo book.
Nice use of the "balefire" concept from Wheel of Time combined with Timecop. Not bad, really.

I don't think he's writing it in real time, but yeah, I can see that it does need some editing over. And to be fair, I'm only on chapter 5 or so right now. But it got me hooked, which usually takes some effort.

He should pretend he is, because it definitely needs some heavy editing. But at least the plot is interesting so far. He has a few good lines, though:
"Ronnie had no time to see where Oken was and was hit completely unaware when Oken dropped from the skies onto Ronnie’s back. Oken felt the crack. Ronnie sure as heck felt the crack. The crowd heard the crack through the thumping rhythm and reeled back at the noise." Got a good laugh out of that one.

Hey guys, I'm the author (if you can call it that) of the book. Firstly I just wanted to say a huge thanks for the mention here. Secondly, yeh, I am aware it needs heavy editing. I edited it once, someone else edited it, then I edited it again - The main issue is that the first 10 chapters were written in 2003. The rest in 2009, so there is a discontinuity of style and language.
Anyway, it was never originally written to be published. It was written as a present for my wife. Hope you enjoy reading the rest of it. cbx33 |

Yeah, I've gone back and read stuff I wrote five years ago and I find it nigh unrecognizable.
Anyway, keep writing, you'll keep getting better, etc. Also it's great that you're doing this for charity, I hope you make a big difference in getting these charities some much-needed donations.
