And people say 2-D platformers are dead. Ladies and gentlemen, I'm here to tell you that GISH is one of the best games I've come across lately. I downloaded the 4-level demo and played it through five to six times already. Doesn't seem like I'm going to stop there either.
As to what it's about... why go to the trouble when the perfect article is already up over at I-Mockery. Go read it. They also provide a download link. What? I'm a lazy sod. |

That game was totally leet... only its really slow paced, and I dont like that in my platformer games. Maybe if jumping wasnt so sluggish Id be fine. But...
The game was leet. I must have spent 3 hours mucking around with the physics on the second timed level. Seriously, you burst down the area while weighting down the board and then let it go on its on while you jump in the middle where the water is, and if you get it just right the board will land on your and SQUISH YOU. Or you could just get it right and have it go REALLY FAST and have you get thrown against a wall and squished there. Or... You get the idea. I had so much fun with that level alone, lol.

Who said 2-D platformers were dead? Just look how well Viewtiful Joe has sold, not to mention the Castlevania games. Sure they aren't flat-out platformers, but I'd say they pretty will suffice.

There's a code to turn on Turbo mode (double speed), although I couldn't get it to work.

I've played the demo. And I can safely say that this game doesn't deserve HALF of the respect and applause it's been getting. It's slow, the controls are finicky and uninspired, and playing the game is the equivalent of slogging around a sack of bricks. It's not fun, it's not entertaining, and whatever challenge seems to appear is inherent only due to the sloppy, unresponsive control scheme.
The visuals would be the highest point, if not for the fact that everything is so dark, it makes it nigh-impossible to actually SEE what the hell is going on half the time. I really hope the actual game turned out a lot better. In fact, I'd say the demo was so awful that I'm hoping the finished product was simply an entirely different game altogether. The only reason it's getting ANY recognition is because the creator of this monstrosity advertised it at Newgrounds.com, the world's leading source of idiots. With money. And not a single idea of how to differenciate right from wrong. So uh, yeah. Not my cup of tea, thank you very much. :P |

Fair enough. I have to say you're right about the controls. I had to assign them to my trusty pad o' joy to really be able to, y'know, move.
