(UN)Official NPF n00b Rules
Sure, Mashirosen and shiney and Rai and all them covered the BASICS of joining in the NPF fun, but they always leave out the IMPORTANT stuff. We feel that this needs to be corrected.
On Making New Threads 1. If you want to know what something is/the origin of something/when something happened/etc., DON'T make a new thread about it. Instead, go HERE. You'll save Us time, because if we ever see a "What in the heck is a ion thruster?" thread We just stop by and go "This is." You'll save everyone oodles of time. 2. There are only three people who want to join your "Fantasy/Sci-fi/Western/Final Fantasy/Dragonball GT" RP and none of them are on this board. 3. If your having trouble deciding on where to put your new thread, just stick it in Off-Topic. 4. Look at least three pages back before you make a new thread to see if the idea hasn't already been done. Don't necro-post on the thread if its there, just let your idea sit. General 1. Don't rep the biggies on the board to earn their favor. Your rep is useless anyway. Those are just Our suggested addendums. You all must have your own.

also the missing g and the extra p "going to
in any case, if you see an all-purpose ____ thread, don't make a specific thread that could fit into that category

Use proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Minor slips are okay, but make use of the Edit button when someone points them out to you.

its ok to be an oppinionated little fucktard, but bigoted oppinionated little fucktards typically don't last long. If you've got something that "just needs to be said" in the discussion forum, stop and think wether or not its acceptable to an average, sane person. I like to call this the "common sense rule"
Also, don't quote another posters entire post unless its short, only quote the parts you are reffering to directly. No one wants to have humongous blocks of already read text followed by one stupid and/or irrelevent comment. Also, I personally like to give "negarep" to posts I feel are hurtful to others or not thoughtful enough. I don't know if I'm the only one who does this, but if you find yourself being labeled an "unknown quantity" you might want to rethink your manner of expression, that is if you want others to respond to you. Its ok if you just don't care, as long as you stay within the rules though. (I always sign all my rep, positive and negative, as Funka G, in case you were wondering.) Rep isn't pointless, it lets people know you appreciate their comments and found one particular post to outshine most others you see. Its a friendly thing to do, and if you genuinely want to let someone know that you love their recent post, go ahead. But as MLA said, don't try and "bribe" people with rep, it won't do you any good anyways. Shineys got a whole lot of rep from a whole lot of people, but people still have to eat it! Also, will everyone please sign their damn rep! is it too much to ask? |

Also, when in doubt, ask. Don't just shrug it off (or just not do it because you're too timid. People who talk are good...) Yess, if you're new, you'll get leniency, but there is no reason to use it until you realy need it (plus, we'll think you're all smart and stuff for not getting in trouble, even though you were new. I will anyway.). Ask one of the mods, or if they are just to scary for you (they are awe inspiring, cool, and all that... [<--blatent suck up]), PM me or some other person who's been around longer. We don't generally bite... I love newbies... I was one once, ya know. Still act like one sometimes, to my utter dismay... Last edited by MasterOfMagic; 02-15-2005 at 05:06 PM. |

Do not try to get into a comic in the Off Topic forum. 99% of the time you will be ignored, and if you actually do get put in a comic, you are made out as a moron. Read all of the sticky titles. Don't argue with people whose names' are in bold. AOL abbreviations (lol for example) are forbidden. This is not a chatroom, do not expect instant replies. Do not tell people that you are leaving, or that you will 'be right back'. No one cares, and it's against the rules. If you have something negetive to say, make sure it sounds like a joke so you don't get accused of flaming (Insulting). If you can't spell the word, look it up, or use a smaller word. If you know big words, use them. You will look smart. Do not use smilies. No one likes them. Do not make little situations with the 8-Bit Theater characters at the bottom of your posts. Do not have the 8-Bit Theater characters comment on your post. Do not use the 8-Bit Theater characters in any way. Watch this, it is funny and useful. If you are biased, unintelligent, and refuse to read long posts/artiles, do not go to the Discussion forum.

Here's two friendly rules from a friendly moderator that, for a change of pace, I'd kindly like to address to our more senior members.
1. You are not above The Rules. We don't recognize seniority. There is simply The Rules. Whether you've been around for twenty years or three seconds, you're held to the same standards as everyone else. 2. Please discard elitism at the door. I've got enough to make up for everyone. Nuklear Power welcomes new posters. We are not in the business of driving them off, insulting them behind their backs, or blacklisting them. The point is for this community to grow, not stagnate. Please keep these in mind. |

friendliest moderator is a toss up between Meister and CroTeam, they are innately kind and will often informally warn a poster who makes bannable transgressions.

I for one love using smilies, I feel they help to convey a sense of emotion. also: :rmage: My cake frosting skill is nigh godlike! I like stuff like that too, its all a matter of individual taste, if I could give one point of advice (and thats all this thread is actually, just advice and a bit of elitist posturing ) just be yourself, if yourself is someone cool, everyone will warm up to you, if yourself is a terrible person, the mods will probably ban you and you can get on with your life. and listen to CroTeam before you listen to anyone else, we are all just citizens beneath the terrible hierarchy of moderatorship. (wasn't there a "Triforce of Terror" something or other at one point, yes I believe it was Krylo, Meister and CroTeam, funny stuff!) |
