Post Bushisms

Now this thread is not here for all of you to come and bash Bush or bash me cause I posted about him something that you might not like.

This thread is in the discussion section, because Bush makes it atleast a bit political, but don't think that this is all serious stuff here.

Those things in mind, here is a article by a local paper called "Newspaper 100" or "Uutislehti 100". Please keep in mind that the article was written in finnish and I had to translate it myself. For example the headline was hard to translate among other things.

The article:

Quote:
A book about the 'misshappenings' (THIS FUCKING WORD CAN'T BE TRANSLATED! JESUS!) of Bush, has been written in Finland

The United States president George W. Bush has become known also by the fact that 'misshappenings' are known to wonder in to his speaches and words. These classics have been heard allready in such an extend that these phrases have been called bushisms.

Now the best of the bushisms have been assembled as a book in Finland. The book, George W. Bush - The Most Unforgettables (George W. Bush - Unohtumattomimmat), assembled by Ville Sutinen promises to offer the great mans most clear thoughts.
But what kind of "lingual flowers" does the leader of the free world have? Here are some examples:
-As you know, these are open places for conversation. You can come here anytime you want and listen to what I have to say.
-There exists a strong trust. I see it all the time when people come to me and say 'I don't want you to betray me again'.
When the president says that "It's clearly a budget. There are so many numbers there" one can no nothing but admire.
Sometimes Bush's mistakes bring to the rethorics surpriseable realism. One of these kinds of phrases was one heard after the terrorist attacks on 9/11(changed this for you):
-There exists no cave big or deep enough, for America to hide in.
Many bushisms don't involve a clear mixup. In these phares many other things tend to amaze.
What do phrases like "Poor people are not neceserally killers. Only the reason that someone happens not to be rich doesen't mean that he has the urge to kill" or "They want the federalgiverment to control social security like it's some national project" tell about the man saying them?.

Bush has gained reputation overseas too with his bushisms. For example, Bush amazed his hosts in Dakar, Senegal, by saying that "The slaves, that left here to go to America, for their own decision making right and religion and beacause they believed in freedom, helped change America".
From the president of Brazil Bush asked innocently: Do you have black people here too?
The events of Pearl Harbor also got a new inturperation when Bush declared, that allready for half a century America and Japan have together formed one of the greatest coalitions of the modern time.
But as the leader himself knows, different kinds of rules concern him that do others.
-I am a leader - you see, I don't have to explain things - I don't have to explain, why I say things. That's an interesting thing I have learned about being a president.
So there. Took me long enough to translate, but if you've got questions or comments, direct the to me.

I remind you of what I had written in the top of this post and I hope everyone can keep the conversation civil enough.

Now some of those 'bushisms' are just plain stupid. Some are ironic and some are humorous. Some, though, have a lot of truth in them too. Now discuss.

EDIT: Did some changes, propably for the worst too. I'm sorry, but my english skills are limited and you'd be surprised how hard finnish, and especially this article, is to translate.

Personally, I think he's at least reasonably intelligent. I mean, you can't get elected president without a modicum of IQ. Sure, he's driven every company he's ever owned into the ground, but so have a lot of people. I think a lot of his Bush-isms are weasel cunning designed to keep the world, and his opponents, off guard.

"Wait, is this guy really an idiot? Or was that sentence actually really clever? GAH! I don't know, but he invaded us while I was thinking about it..."

I have a whole calender with a bushism on each page!

My favourites are..
"Our enemies are extremly resourcefull and intuitive, and so are we! Our enemies will stop at nothing to make America suffer, and neither do we!"

"there is no doubt in my mind... not one doubt... That we will fail!"

Wandering Wombat, Im not so sure about bush being that intelligent. Remember when he was "wired" in those big debates. He is merely a puppet for the less charismatic but more intelligent members of his government.
For bush to be voted in, all he has to do is appeal to the largest demographic! Maybe his lack of apparent intelligence makes him more popular to many american citizens because he does not pull intellectual rank! This, along with the people who vote for someone just because of tradition, give him quite a large number of people that would vote for him. (although I think his first election was completly wrong, they removed 8700 legitimate voters, gore won by 567 votes. thats not right).

Well, sure, he isn't as smart as his writers, his publicists, his cabinet... his maid... but he is smart enough to associate himself with the right people. He knows that he can't win it on his own, and he hires people to write clever stuff for him. He's like Leno.

I'm sorry Osterbaum, but I'm afraid that I don't believe this belongs in the Discussion category. Yes, politics are involved in the Bushisms, but politics alone do not necessarily make for a Discussionary thread. If you had brought up Bush's education, and a number of facts of his personal history, and tried to really look into why he is prone to the speech mannerisms he has, then maybe you'd have a discussion on your hands.

As it stands, unless somebody is going to bring up something more discussion worthy related to this thead, I'd suggest a Mod move this thread over into General or Off-Topic or close it altogether.

Sorry, but that's just my call.

No need to apologize. I thought long of it myself, but for some reasons ended up putting it here. Now I'll let a mod decide if this 'discussion' is to be moved to the off topic forum. I have nothing against that. Not that it would matter if I did. :P

Anyway... I was actually thinking of buying this book. Or atleast get it from the library when and if it comes there. The article only mentioned a few things...

And I must agree more with the fact that Bush is just a bit stupid. Not the only stupid person in the world and certainly not the most stupid, but atleast a bit stupin nevertheless.

That, or he is secretly a comedian. Heehee... How cool would be to go watch Bush in a Stand Up show.

That's what i'd say. Especialy since most of the things in that quote, which were almost all quoted out of context, were meant as jokes (one of them, "It's clearly a budget. There are so many numbers there." was quoted in context on Special Report with Brit Hume and his tone of voice was very clearly sarcastic.

Quote:
"Poor people are not neceserally killers. Only the reason that someone happens not to be rich doesen't mean that he has the urge to kill"
Ok, that was definitely a screw up. He's obviously not the most articulate person in the world. Does that make him stupid?

I have a studering problem. I ofter get words wrong or use the compleatly wrong word. I often have trouble speaking in complete sentences and almost always have to stop in the middle of a sentance and start over from the begining because I lost what ever I was saying.

If Bush is stupid for missing words every now and then and for not always being able to say what he means, just like any other normal person, what does that make me? A moron? A retard? A lower fucking life form?

If you wanted to make me feel personaly offended, you hit the nail on the head.

EDIT: On hindsight, I might have been over reacting, it's just that this particular topic gets me all fired up for obvious reasons. Seriously though. I find it curious that i'm the only person in this thread, including the person who started this thread, who is actualy an American citizen.

I realize that it was only a joke and that you had no way of knowing that anyone might take offence, but this idea is done to death, and even if it wasn't, do I go out of my way to make fun of the leaders of and insult the citizens of your countries?

Lay off. This forum, and the whole world for that matter, will be a whole lot better for it.

It's different to miss some words from time to time. But some of those things really just are plain stupid. But please note, that I'm not calling you stupid.

Don't worry, dude. I must apologize for not thinking through.

That is curious, but I'm not sure we agree on the why it's curious.

I'm not making fun of anyone here. I didn't write the book. I just translated the article.

Now you are just overreacting. This is not an attack on anyone.

Now if someone didn't allready please move this thread to the off topic forum for it get's too serious here. It was a mistake putting it here.

not the ONLY american citiznes, I'm here!!

and seriously dynamite, he was just posting an honest question, and didn't mean it as an attack. And come on, I am probably the biggest Bush basher here, and I'm an american citizen, I mean just because hes not an american citizen doesn't mean he shouldn't be allowed to insult our leader too! :p

But yea, missing words here and there, not an idiot. Freudean slips, not an idiot. But some of what he says is just hilarious, and many times sounds hilariously stupid. I do agree that Bush is a moron to a certain degree though.

I have a chronic stutter. No-one in my family believed that I had a stutter, so whenever I would get stuck on a word, I would get grounded for lying. Often, I have to use strange-sounding sentences that do not contain any words I'll get stuck on. However, I still manage to get accross simple ideas. If you wanted to make me feel personally offended, you hit the nail on the head.

Don't get personally upset because we're excercising our right to speak our minds. Most of us may not be Americans (I'm Canadian, but I don't see how the country you were born in has any bearing on your opinions), but we still have opinions, especially where it concerns people who have the power within their hands to, quite literally, end the world.

People like that need to be reminded that they're human, fallible, and accountable.
