Batman: Beyond the Bat Interest/Sign Up Thread
The basic premise in this is a mix between the Batman comics and the cartoon Batman Beyond. Now I haven't ironed out the finer details in this yet, but I did want to get a feel for how many people might be interested in it. Bear in mind that I might not take everyone as this rp isn't exactly a big free for all.
The year is 2035, and Gotham City is now a futuristic megalopolis equipped with staggering high rises and hovering/flying vehicles. The number of metahumans are now on the rise, and there is growing tension between them and the humans, mostly because many metahumans have turned to lives of crime and attempts at world domination. Their egos take over and they believe that they are invincible, and worthy of ruling the lowly humans. There are however, metahumans that live amongst the people, unnoticed and hidden, not using their powers and only wanting to live a normal life. For over 50 years the Batman has protected Gotham City from the darkness. At first he did so by himself, but once the strain was too great he formed his own team, his own family. But soon, over the years, the family dwindled: Nightwing dead, Robin crippled, Oracle crippled, Huntress dead, Batgirl dead. Only the Bat remained, the one shining beacon of light in the darkness that was slowly becoming Gotham once again. But even he too, was dwindling. Finally, he too was out of commission, a heart attack taking his strength and forcing him into seclusion in his cave. He knew that one Bat was not enough. He needed his family. He scoured the city and the far reaches outside for metahumans who had the heart and the purity to become his new team. They needed to be willing to take his orders and do things his way. Many answered the call, but only a select few were chosen. So that's the basic story. You guys get to be the new Bat team! Basically, you can be a metahuman (mutant) with whatever powers you want, within limits of course, or you can be a human. If you want to be a human, you have to give me a good reason why Batman would chose you then. This is going to be a pretty free form rp. You guys don't have to take the name of the old characters, you can make your own hero names if you like, and your own costumes. They don't have to be the standard Batman costumes or even the Batman Beyond ones, go with the flow and make your own. Just make sure there's something with the Bat symbol on it. Here's a sign up sheet for those who want to make a bio. Like I said before, I might not take everyone so no hard feelings if I don't. Name: Your real name Hero Name: You can take one of the old Batman heroes, or make one of your own Powers: It can be as simple as "I R STRONG" to something more complex. Just make sure you give a good description. Age: You can be as old or as young as you like, extremes int he age range just need to give reasons why Sex: Male/Female/Both/Yes Please Appearance: Whatcha look like Costume: What your fancy duds look like Bio: Background history, personality, how Batman found you and anything else you want to put in here. One last thing, yours truly is going to be playing the new....well I'm sure you can figure it out. So please don't overlap your names if you can help it. If there's a discrepancy and more than one person want the title, you can either fight to the death or I'll flip a coin or something. |

Name: Erin Ratzel
Hero Name: Pulse Powers: Electrical Manipulation. Most often seen in Electromagnetism, but can concentrate the electricity into blasts or subtle EMP waves. Age: 24 Sex: Male/Yes Please Appearance: 6' 2" tall, white, with lean muscular build. Blonde hair, with blue eyes that seem to spark. Has a long scar along his spine. Normally wears sunglasses to cover his weird eyes, and boots with metal soles. Costume: Bio: Erin was born a little special. It was probably when the machines in the hospital around him suddenly shorted out that his family first noticed. He had a nasty tendency to accidentally fry electronics that were directly around him, and his parents eventually just couldn't take it anymore. They put him up for adoption, and he was snatched up by a research facility wishing to study his strange electrical ambience, and see if they could militarize it. They took out his organic spine and replaced it with a conductive-fiber prosthetic. This greatly increased the power of his electricity, and even granted him the ability to control it. The testing and research on him went on for years until he finally managed to escape in his late teens. Having no education besides what the facility gave him, no work experience, and no family to fall back on, he inevitably fell to crime. Nothing too big. Mostly shorting out ATMs and grabbing what spilled out before the cops showed up. This eventually lead up to hacking computers and stealing information to sell to other rival companies. It was at that point he finally got caught and sealed up in a rubber cell. And he probably would still be there, if not for the old Batman showing up and giving him an ultimatum. He could either use his gifts to combat those who use them poorly, or sit and rot in a world of rubber. It was obvious which choice he would make. Weaknesses: Rubber, Sexy Women, Packers Games

Too much awesome for such a small space. Oh well. You can still punch your mother...if you want... Name: Akane Yoshida
Hero Name: Batgirl Powers: Akane has the ability to absorb solar radiation, and convert it into high energy plasma which bursts into flame when exposed to oxygen. She can project his powers though his hands as blasts of searing heat, deadly radiation, explosive force, or simple bursts of fire. By ionizing the air around her, she can surround herself with an aura of heat intense enough to melt steel, or fly by focusing his aura downwards in a tight stream of ionized gas to propel her though the air like a rocket. Akane can see heat, by shifting her vision from visible light to infrared. Due to the nature of her powers, Akane is immune to extreme heat and radiation. Age: 23 Sex: Female Appearance: 5'7" with a medium build. She has red hair and green eyes. Costume: She wears a black corset with a red "jean" type jacket over it. She has black pants on with a super strong polysynthetic inflammable plastic red and yellow armor over it. She has a "utility belt" of sorts over her right thigh and black boots. Her hands are always bandaged with tattered brown bandages that contain an anti-burn salve on them. She has a black mask over her eyes in the shape of the bat symbol. Bio: The daughter of the original mutant Sunfire, Shiro Yoshida, Akane Yoshida grew up in Japan living a relatively quiet life. Her father had many friends within the Japanese Yakuza that kept him and his family safe during the harder times of the country. As she grew older, she began to notice subtle changes in the people who came to her house to viist her father. At first they were all amicable and respectful, but soon they became more desperate ans cold. One night she overheard her father arguing with a man from the Yakuza over some money that he owed. After many threats the man left, saying that only their friendship had kept him from killing her father. Later that night, after the 13 year old Akane had been tucked into bed, gunshots rained down in her house. She left the safe confines of her room, only to find her father trying to fight off a veritable army of armed men. Her father, powerless now, could not fight them off and was eventually killed before Akane's eyes. Angered with a fury she never knew she had, Akane's powers, the exact duplicate of her father's, flared up and she dispatched with the men with ease, killing them all and burning down her family's estate. After the fiasco, Akane fled to America, afraid of what her powers might do to others if she could not control them. After a few years of working in various jobs, she was tracked down by the last Batgirl, Cassandra Cain. The now retired, crippled and dying Cassandra befriended Akane and taught her how to control her powers, as well as martial arts. As she died, Cassandra turned Akane over to Bruce Wayne, saying that she would be the next Batgirl. Bruce agreed and took Akane under his wing. Extra: Akane's arms and hands are bandaged because, while she is in control of her powers, if she over exerts herself, she will burn her hands. |

I'm going to use a character I used once in the Marvel Roleplaying Game.
Name: John 'JD' Dorian MD Hero Name: Psych Powers: Telekinesis up to 1000 pounds, force field projection up to ten feet, force fields can withstand up to 1000 pounds of force, control and manipulate up to one hundred pounds of natural (relatively, metal, rock, etc) solids Age: 34 Sex: Male Appearance: short brown hair, 6'0 tall, not muscular but not skinny. Costume: Worn blue jeans, brown trench coat, fedora, purple shirt with a white p on it and a bat shaped mask. Bio: John Dorian was a doctor running a clinic across from a bank in Willamette, Colorado, when the bank was robbed by metahumans. The door of the vault flew straight at him, but he put up a forcefield without realizing it. This is how he discovered his powers. After training and learning to control them, he became a superhero. He later moved to Gotham after being contacted by Batman. Has martial arts training. JD is very outgoing, a people pleaser. He is very intelligent and is not afraid to ask for help. Tends to look up to people as mentors. I used pretty much the same background and everything. Characters with powers were even called metahumans in that campaign setting. Heh. This character also had matter animation, which allowed him to shape and control metal, rock, glass, and that sort of thing. Would he be overpowered if I added that, or is he already? Also, do I need to change the strength of the existing powers? Last edited by TDK; 01-28-2008 at 03:25 PM. |

from the old Blind Mime batman Rp.
Name: Andrew Richards Alias: RedWing Age: 19 Appearance: Slightly angular face, not extreme but noticable. Black hair, cornrows, red hawkeyes eyes slight burgandy skin tone, long coat, always wearing long sleeves and gloves. Super outfit: black body suit with Red bird emblazoned across the chest, similar to Terry Micguinniess's suit no sleeves or boots exposing his wings and talons Equipment: Standard array of bootleg ninja gear OG batman was known for. Powers: Flight, claws as strong as wolverines non-adamantium ones, super human Strength speed, agility, and endurance super vision(Hawkvision) Background: (Definitely changed, I can't believe I used to write that shit) Andrew's father was one of the biologists of the Wayne Corporation, and a champion for animal rights in the field of science, because of his outspoken ways his strong moral compass, and his innovative work in combining animal stem cells with human cells, He quickly rose in the company, with Bruce Wayne's favor. This spited many of his contemporaries, particularly those who worked in the same field as him, but had less respect for animals. One night, while andrew was in the lab with his father, an escaped experiment from another scientist began rampaging through the Biological sciences department, causing many massive explosions, killing Andrew's father, and saturating Andrew's system with red-tailed hawk stemcells. andrew survived with some major cuts and bruises, but recovered at an astonishing rate. Because His mother had died long ago, Andrew was put into the foster care system. that is, until he started changing, andrew quickly began mutating, developing Hawk-like traits, finally resulting in his current form. He ran away when he was thriteen and has been living on his won ever since, despite this he still retains his sense of humor, masking his pain. The world's greates detective finally managed to track down this boy who had slipped through the cracks, when he was in his late teens. Realizing his potential, and feeling a responsibility to his lost father, bruce took him in and trained him.

Raiden: Good stuff, you're in
TDK: How much can his forcefield withstand? And what would happen to him if he were overtaxed? Also, as per your question: Matter manipulation might be a bit much, but if you keep it to one kind of matter or maybe just small things, I would be ok with it. Premonitions: So far, so good. Please expand on your bio though. |

I changed it. How's that?
As for overtaxed, I guess he would struggle but manage to hold it up with some negative after-effects unless it was a lot over the limit. |

Name: Wade Nelson
Hero Name: Dead-Man (Though never actually reveals the full title beyond Dead-*loudnoise, or obstruction*) Powers: Regeneration, Mimetic skill Age: 40, though looking younger due to regeneration. Sex: Yes please, Baby! (male) Appearance: Heavily scarred (Due to regeneration not instantly removing the dead skin and scars that dot him) from head to toe, the result of his regeneration testing. Costume: ...uhhh..... Bio: A vigilante with out a cause (or clue) Dead-*loud saxophone* was a genius scientist with a unique gift: The ability to view someone else's skill and mimic it with utmost precision, nothing short of learning to pilot a starship just by watching an active crew by just watching them go at it for a moment. Deemed a "Mimetic", and a member of a rare few, he was snatched up by the government to learn and understand (and harness) his talents. The one problem with Mimetics is that their incredible ability to memorize abilities and information so quickly was that the memory also tended to deteriorate that much more quickly as well with the influx of so much information throughout their daily life, leading up to an earliy senility when their brain gave up in their 30's. In an attempt to rectify this, Wade's government handlers signed him up for a medical regeneration procedure (used also for a chick with long nails and some old war hero) on his brain, to reverse the damage as it happened. However, the benefits spread also the rest of his body, and even increased the extent of his mimetic ability. The downside: It didn't do so well for his mental state, which ended up in a state of flux not even psychics can pierce. Furthermore, the experiments to test exactly how powerful his regeneration abilities were tended to be VERY thorough, degrading his mental state further. Driven loopy and believing that he world was under the iron grip of Pigs (not capitalists, actual pigs) and Turtles (which hated plumbers, their one bane), Wade broke from his containment facility with his insane brilliance, and set about on a wildy unpredictable rampage. Sometimes acting as a vigilante, sometimes acting as a ne'er do well, sometimes being a public nuisance, and proving to be a menace few could truly ever deal with for long, Batman took it upon himself to deal with the crazed genius, knowing that crazed geniuses could do the worst sort of damage if left unchecked. With a chip connected to a acid bomb planted within his chest, Wade has to follow the "boss plumber man" or else risk a real chance of death, prodded along by severe shocks as well if the threat of death doesn't work. Wade proves to be an unpredicable, if effective (mostly) member of Batman's new team, as Dead-*car horn* |
