I've decided to take up a new hobby

And was wondering if anyone in these forums might know a bit about where I can start. I'm interested in learning to play the harmonica. Stop laughing. I mean play the harmonica well. Particularly in the "blues harp" style. A good example of the style I'd like to play can be found right here, and here, though out of the two pieces, I've love to learn to play the first most.

Does anyone know the name of the first piece, and also, are there any experienced harmonica players who could recommend a brand or model of harmonica (I didn't realize there were so freaking many of them!), as well as where I might find some lessons or a good self-teaching course? Any assistance would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

That's "Digging my Potato", by Yoko Kanno.

It's a quite difficult song. Set your sights much lower, it's gonna be a while before you can play something like that. Do the star-spangled banner, or something.

I know there's pretty much no way I'll be able to play that anytime soon, but it's still a goal worthy of shooting for, in my opinion.

My advice isn't to pick up sheet music, or check out instructional videos. You should just pick up the thing and blast out a tune. Play it by ear and get a feel for it - then maybe look into grabbing some music. (Though make sure you can read it.)

I've heard that Harmonica is the easiest instrument to learn but fairly difficult to master. I know almost nothing about them first hand but it sounds like fun! Let us know how it goes, and post an MP3 when you don't suck at it!
