Let's Record (Using Skype)
Is there a way to use Skype for two people to view the same video and record audio at the same time?
In case that poorly phrased question doesn't make sense, I'm trying to do a video Let's Play with someone who is a great distance away, and am trying to figure out the best method for doing that, and he mentioned Skype might work.

Without looking around myself for the answer, I can currently just offer this idea:
I have watched some video LPs wherein the one playing the game records his video, sends copies to his commentators, and then they all connect to Skype or vent and start the video at the same time and comment. Doing it this way, you'd just need to be running something to capture your screen / the video window when you play the game and later record the "what you hear" [in the Window's recording sources view] audio bit (which should capture the sound from the video as well as the talking; might have to check that your mic is not being muted for playback so that you also get recorded) when you're commenting on it. When you are making the final video, you can combine the audio you recorded with the video footage. As for being able to just record the video and the audio together initially, I haven't the experience with the appropriate software to offer advice there. EDIT: Huh, the tech support / tools thread in SA's LP section is no longer publicly viewable.

There are programs out there that allow you to set up a part of your screen as your webcam. WebcamMax is one I hear thrown about by some people I know who do ustreaming. Anyway, just set it as your webcam in skype and have it set to record the game window.

we had a thread around here on the idea of making a "forum podcast" using similar methods. I can't find it right now, but there were quite a few hints of programs you could use

I will look further if not.
Did you mean this post of yours in your forum podcast thread?

Skype itself has a call record feature, several actually. Some are program upgrades but there's also a great many simple hacks. Google it. Then just slap the video/audio together in Windows Movie Maker. Problem solved.

This is kinda off topic, but I remember a thread started a while back about how people were having issues with recording voice and speaker sound with realtek HD sound cards (IE Vista) with things such as Fraps or Hypercam, or etc.
I found a solution, and since this is a similar thread and don't really think it merits its own thread. It is stupidly simple as well.
