Seeing Through Different Eyes
Ok, so I'm taking my wife through 8-Bit theater. Because I'm a consumate geek, I've actually been keeping her reactions to certain things down in a document so we can look at them later. I'm actually fascinated to see what a person who's going through the story the first time sees and picks up that I didn't. I've done my best to avoid spoilers for her (I've only shown her one future comic, in which BM has the door slam his legs in the Castle of Ordeals, and told her some time ago of another in which BM briefly became briefly Hell King), and figure others might be curious about her reactions. It's certainly been enlightening for me, reminding me of things long forgotten.
So, let's get to her questions, queiries, notifications, and stuff: Is this the man in Blue Robes from the beginning who took Fighter's money? I don't remember if this was ever answered on the forums (I might not have been around then, I don't recall). My wife is rather convinced that this is Red Mage and Black Mage. I know for a fact that she is unaware of the later comics. You know why she feels that way? "The colors match. Personalities too." Now I feel like a doofus for all my speculation otherwise. Fighter has a surprisingly powerful sense of smell. She also pointed this out when Fighter explained that the elves would know about Thief because he smelled that way. That's something I never, ever noticed, no matter how many times I trolled the archives. Go fig. There Are Only Four of You is what Sarda said to explain his not raising Black Belt. He was talking to White Mage. She points out that the set up as given was the correct set up for the Real Light Warriors. So why and how is Black Mage there? Also, and this is something I hadn't thought of - at creation of light, she wondered who the evil-toy-things were. I didn't know, but might that be some form of teaser? So anyhoo, these are only a few of the things that she's pointed out, and these are what I've kept. I chose to put them in a new thread because I'm curious. Are there things that you noticed the first time through you've forgotten about? Maybe this reminds you of stuff. Any actually predictions from this should probably go in the official thread for that sort of thing, but I was curious - what do you remember from your first time through? How did you feel? Fascinated, obsessed, what? Do you remember? I remember the rush of excitement and the fascination - the theories that popped up (and still do) every time something new came up. Also if you guys know the answers to any of the above questions - that is, if Brian or other knowledgable person has addressed the topics - I'd be curious about it. Thanks! Notes: I think the title of this is an actual song upon reflection, but now I can't remember where it's from While I think she's the best thing ever, this isn't actually about my wife. She won't get done with the comics soon enough to read the forums before this (probably) will go away. I'm actually curious about your first time experiences and questions you thought of (and answers, if any) and how you felt. Kind of "recapturing the magic", so to speak. Edit: After mentioning this to my wife, she insisted on seeing (most of) this post (sans spoilers). She told me to mention "I think Drz'zl is on the wrong team. And Black Mage too, probably." She is currently at comic 539 (they had just got the Real Light Warriors' boat). She's also aiding me to edit this. As an English teacher, I figure she's qualified. Mistakes made are entirly the fault of myself and my disease, however. My wife is not the disease. I can't believe I'm typing this. Sigh. My wife is laughing and wants everyone to know she's enjoying 8-bit theater and wonders how she can get her own identity on these forums. I can teach her. Mwa-ha-ha! ... She typed the last three sentences (if you include the "Mwa-ha-ha" just to clarify). Ooooooooookay then. /edit

Wow... that's really interesting.
I never noticed the blue guy, but now... hey, he's really kinda like BM! But his face doesn't make you wanna kill yourself, so... But I did, in fact, notice the Fighter-smell thing. I think, it's one of his "special talents" you know, like sword-chuckery. Did anyone else ever wonder if Fighter was actually a savant? (A person, who is awesome at one ability but fails at everything else miserably) And the Sarda stuff just confuses me... like always. XD

I'm absolutely sure that's the entirety of his and BG's Megman's character

From my memory, that's pretty much been the dominant theory in terms of explaining Fighter's cognitive ability. It's the only thing that makes sense without just saying "comedy trumps continuity".

I can't help but point out the irony here.
That sentence indicates that you are an English teacher who thinks she's qualified! Of course, no English teachers would make such an error as to call themselves English teachers when they are actually not. That would be impossible. |

It bugs me so much. :/
No. Not ironic. Not even remotely close to being ironic.
I'm issuing an official Cease & Desist on behalf of literary terms everywhere, insisting that you halt all usage of the word irony in anything you say from this point forward. Thank you and have a nice day.

And one mo' thin'...
My wife recently pointed out something else as she was reading through the archives: the Light Warriors actually act like they should - like fated heroes - when White Mage replaces Black Mage. In other words, when Black Mage is around, they behave far more evilly than when White Mage is around as well. Makes me wonder - as she asked - what Black Mage is doing there. Also, given their shown respect for White Mage in that arc, it makes far more sense when they jump in to save her from Black Mage later. Heck, they even land the death trap with no problems. It's a death trap.
Black Mage also really works hard to become and remain a cobbler. I guess what he said was true. Oddly, as soon as Black Mage returns they begin to behave the same way, again. This, even before they've encountered Black Mage. It kinda makes me wonder about the nature of the Real Light Warriors who do have a White Wizard (instead of a Black Wizard) with them. Also, if what White Mage said (that her beliefs were a lie) suggested it to be true in the universe... and thus Black Mage is on the Light Warrior team. Anyhoo, I supose actual theories need to go in the official thread, but I thought it relevant here. And: thanks CB. I think, after reviewing your answers, they are somewhat justified in their positioning there. Effectively, all of them are about death, destiny, and destruction. (Alliteration. Wheeeeee! :whee And: Grognor. I'm not the English Teacher. She's the English teacher. Ergo, she's not calling herself anything.
