Antivirus programs?
I got a new PC recently, and the free trial stuff that was on it is running out now. So what to get? I'm running Windows 7, and I've got, what's it called, Microsoft Security Essentials downloaded, but that'd microsoft and I have no idea whether it's any good.
So, do you guys have any recommendations? |

funny uou mentioned that, i just removed the latest version of AVG from my PC cause i had a hunch that it was ruinning my PC. How i got to that?
After i install it, the PC was so damn slow it was locking out. It was REALLY bad. I removed it, and then BAM everything is fine. Never using AVG again here. And it was on my PC for at least 3-4 years! |

but I've used it for long enough now I might be out of touch with the others
I use Avira in Windows. I have been more pleased with it than my previous experiences with Norton, McAfee, and AVG.

AVG used to be pretty good. But then I found NOD and Avast. Both of which are free and wonderful. Don't forget to add Malwarebytes, CCleaner, and if you want performance you may actually want to shell out a few bucks for Ultimate Defrag from DiskTrix.

I'm running Spybot (www.spybot.com) and Avast on this netbook; I hit up the occasional sketchy site and so far I'm still clear, so I figure they work.

Speaking of AVG, I'm trying to uninstall it since I've been having problems with it, but it won't let me run the uninstallation process unless I delete all the other antivirus programs from my computer. Which I refuse to do. Is there a workaround?

You can delete it's folder and files, breaking the software and then just running something like CCleaner to wipe the mess out

Personally I'm a fan of Panda Cloud. It's fast and light compared to anything else available.

So I'm apparently getting a laptop for me birthday/Christmas, after the last computer died because of Desktop Antivirus 2010.
The thing is that I'm fairly certain that since my portable HD was connected to the old desktop PC while it was infected, there's probably something hanging around on the HD. Now, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware was unsuccessful in removing DAV2010, or even believing that anything was infected. The only thing that actually found the virus was - I think - Spyware Doctor, which costed money I didn't have, and some wanky Windows thing which took forever to find. Now I want to use my HD on the new laptop as it really has everything (the PC had no memory,) that I did on it. It has all my bookmarked threads and saved comics, for crying out loud! What's the best antivirus program for my new computer? SOmething that would detect DAV2010 trying to install itself from the HD and kick it in the balls repeatedly? |
