What race is Black Mage?
I've been seeing a lot of questions about this, and I'm extremely curious myself, what is Black Mage?
my pet theory at the moment is that he's actually a drow....

I always considered Black Mage a class.
However, could the practice of the dark arts scar you in some way...make you half demon and horrible to look upon?

no, that was when he was the Hell Mage.......
I doubt practicing Black Magic would scar you so badly.......if it did, then why don't Black Wizards hide their faces, too? Since they have practiced it even longer, it would make sense that they would be MORE scarred at this point. I think he's a drow because it would explain his destructive nature, his hatred of nearly everything, and his heartfelt desire to hurt dwarves (and elves!) it would also make sense for a drow to hide his appearance on the surface....

he was once the incarnation of all evil (as Hell Mage), he was never the reincarnation of all evil in a fleshy form.......I was refering to the first part of your statement........
I think BM used a spell or something to do that.................and seeing a creature with such a horrible reputation, one that your parents used to terrify you with stories about since you were a little kid, right there in front of you, might be enough to destabilize your mind........

His spirit is the reincarnation, but currently it is stuck in his flesh.
And BM didn't use a spell for it, because it was an accident. And you don't have a mental breakdown because you see something that scares you.

Yeah, BM is the definition of chaos and evil put into a flesh form. I'm sure it's in the archives, but I'm too lazy too look.

he yelled "don't look at me!!" and my theory is that he kinda lashed out (with magic!) at this point...........some sort of spell designed to keep the kid from remembering what he saw....
