computer infinitely restarts

I am using windows XP

Weirdest thing is I did nothing out of the ordinary, I didn't visit any new sites or download anything new, in fact the last thing I was doing was playing new vegas when it froze calling for a restart. When it did restart I got the usual "windows restart" message asking for
"start windows normally"
"safe mode"
ect options.

Regardless of which I select it gets, at best to windows loading screen then it restarts itself displaying the same options. I cant think of any other option but to reformat, but hoping you guys might know of another option

I had a similar issue no so long ago. My mouse's driver messed up and I had to unplug it before turning the PC on, after I was in windows, I just plugged the mouse and everything was fine. Try unplugging everything (except for the monitor, you want to see if it works :P) and try again.

Sounds like a classic case of a corrupted Master Boot Record. Easy fix.

tried unplugging everything except the monitor, then everything including the monitor. no luck

didn't seem to work, though I forgot if it was the 32bit or 64bit version I had installed, and just assumed it was the same. I think someone borrowed my other one

[edit]after looking more on that pcsupport page I found what I have is "return to advanced boot options" problem. Unfortunately I tried just about all the steps except replacing motherboard battery and a full reboot. I think I cleared CSOM but there was no reset or default option, so I went with "optimal settings" and hoped for the best

Ignore the fools here. Start in safe mode. Hit F8 while booting til you get a menu. Pick safe mode with networking. Go to control panel and into administrative tools and then event viewer and tell me whats showing a red or yellow sign.

ok I did reformat and am nearly as bad as it was. Cause I learned XP isn't supported anymore, which means no service packs, which seems to be needed to run things

...like my sound driver -_-

computer minus sound, is very lacking

I'm not sure if you saw this there:

SP 1
SP 2

Just use what Ness gave you after installing this two.

EDIT: SP1 is called SP1a because it doesn't have the Microsoft Virtual Machine (used for JAVA) because of some trouble with Sun.

I have x64bit installed, I couldn't find 32 bit, so I cant use those

[edit]I did try searching again, but for some reason I always got 0 results even when I used links
