Stuck disk in PS3, 60GB BC model

Before you respond, please read. I am looking for tried & true methods, not guesswork.

Things I've tried:

1. Used an air canister on DVD slot (kind to remove dust.)
2. Found a method that claims holding eject as you turn on works. Either not for my model, or else there's something I'm missing
3. There is something of a drag method that I don't understand. Basically, as you try to eject, you stck another disk in. The original is pressed against this disk & you drag both out. Not sure how to do this, but tried a few times.

Note, this issue is only with eject. If I power down & restart, the disk is recognized & will play.

I just don't think I want to see TF:A Transform & Roll Out, that many times.

Also, it has been on for an hour or so, so I've done a complete shutdown with it currently recognizing the disk. Plan to try simple eject in morning.

You're exactly right on that last part- I have the same PS3 model as you, and when my PS3 ate the disk, I had to leave it alone until the next morning. Let the system cool.

If it doesn't eject the disc after that, [including using the XMB command for eject, yes?] then your PS3 is officially hitting the wear and tear point and will need to be sent in for repair.

I recommend doing this- It'll cost you $200 but it's worth it.

Edit: Alternately, TF:A was highly underrated for how good it was. You owe it to the franchise to watch that disk over and over.

XMB? What's that? I've tried the eject button & ejecting the disk using the triangle (selecting the DVD IN THE MENU). I don't know what XMB stands for.

The media bar on your PS3. When you turn it on when it's not in 'play movie' mode, there's options like 'system', 'pictures', 'music', 'movie', 'game', 'network'?

That's the XMB bar. Go to movie, go to the disk icon, press triangle, select "Eject Disk" from there.

Ah, so just basically what I said, just using the official name. (Selecting the DVD in the menu w/ triangle button.)

There's a number of menus that you could reasonably access to eject the disk. I wasn't certain.

So yes- if it doesn't eject tomorrow, it's a hardware issue. I had it happen with my Spiderman game, and Sony took good care of it and shipped it all back to me seperate, with some updated hardware on my console.

On the very off chance it's a software glitch, I could walk you through debugging console on the system, but you'd lose all of your save data/game installs.

When this happened to me I held on to that eject button for... 15 seconds, I think it was. It worked for me.

I just have to say, I did NOT read that as disk initially.

Also more seriously is this an issue for the other PS3 models or more restricted to the older 60gig ones?

I've no idea myself. And keep in mind, I have one of the first Gen of PS3. So that makes a difference.

Holding the eject button (while turning the machine on) to do a force eject doesn't seem to work, & might be a feature that was added in later releases. On a guess, it makes sense, they wouldn't figure this out right away.

Anyway tried it again this morning & could not eject. Going to call & see if Sony can talk me through the problem. Otherwise, I see an expensive repair in my future.

Update: Well my current assumption is that I am hosed. Going to leave it off for a week, in the off chance that will help anything. Really don't like the idea of paying $129, plus whatever tacked on charges. (Tax or S/H). But I still like the option of playing PS2.

Plus, a fix is still cheaper than a new system. Hey, what does a Gamestop refurbished system cost?
