Death by Publisher
Well...we all know it happens, but it still hurts.
You know...you read about a game in a magazine, or happen across it on-line, and you say to yourself: "Dude...this game looks awesome." You keep your eye on it, peek in on message boards every now and then to find out new information and to meet other people just as exicted about it as you. You read preview articles on it, and they just make you more exicted because they say it's coming together nicely. Then...out of the blue...the publisher cancels it. This just happened to me and a game called Dead Rush . I first heard about it a few months ago when Game Informer did a full article on it. It looked freakin' awesome...and that is something coming from me because I'm usually not into survival horror games. And, just recently (yesterday or today), the publisher, Activision, cancelled it. And again I am cursed to enjoy the idea of survival horror games, but not like many of them. Any of you have a similiar story of woe?

I was never a huge fan in the first place, but the poor Ultima Online series looks doomed to flounder forever because of cancellations. Ultima Online 2 was being created several years ago, 3D UO game, and was cancelled. Then more recently they announced Ultima X, an online Ultima MMORPG... so basically the same as Ultima Online 2. Why they were calling it Ultima X instead is anyone's guess. Well, sure enough, about a month ago that was cancelled also.
Will a second Ultima MMORPG ever come to be?

Hmmm...there was an MMORPG for the X-Box that was just canned by the publisher just recently. The reason: because the console market supposedly can't handle it. Heck, if Final Fantasy 11 (XI for the big fans out there) can be on the PS2, I don't see how it couldn't work.
EDIT: How could I forget Sam & Max? And that one game with the motorcycle dude (Full Throttle? I forgot the title)? LucasArts is gettin' lazy, I say!

And I don't know much about cancelled games, but I've been quite frequently burned by companies that make games and never bring them to America. And my three favorite game companies: Nintendo, Konami and Intellegent Systems are the most frequents of this....

The worst thing about the Sam and Max is that the game was 85-90 percent done when LucasArts cancelled it.
Between 15 and 10 percent away from completion, and they cancelled it.

EarthBound 64. I waited for that game for YEARS... YEARS. And then they cancel it. I was so mad.

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel killed Fallout 3.
Fallout 3! Fallout 3 people! ... feh. And now Bethseda Studios is handling Fallout Online! ... that actually could be a good thing ...

I bet that every game people see in video game conventions (i.e. E3) about half of them actually show up on shelves.
