Actually, not many people here play Final Fantasy XI. And even fewer actually play it on the PS2. Your best bet is to go to a video game shop where they actually know what they are talking about and ask them about it.

I can tell you this much: As far as I know a mouse is not needed for the PS2 version. Not sure if it can be used if you have one.

The hard drive can be used for saving games as well as music, I THINK. Don't take my word on this cause I'm not positive.

Also: the American versions of FFXI (both the PC and PS2 ones) come pre-loaded with the FIRST expansion that was released in Japan. There is a second expansion pack coming out in a few months that it does not have.

If I remember right, FFXI costs $9.99 a month American... so that'd be what? $15?

Currently the PS2 HDD only supports a couple of existing games for install/direct save, those being Resident Evil Outbreak and ESPN NFL 2K5. You can, however, back-up your memory cards to the HD, so if you have some older saves that are eating up space you can move them over to the drive and free up room on the card for your existing games. On the more illegal side of things, you can buy a utility (http://www.hdloader.com/) that allows you to install most any game to the HD and play without the original disc, but that's a bit on the questionable side.

No, you do not need a mouse, and I'm not sure if it supports one either; However, you will most definitely need a keyboard. You can play using only a gamepad, but once you have to start partying up with people, you will need a fully functional keyboard. When I play on the PS2, I use a regular old USB keboard along with the new Logitech Cordless Action pad, which is the only wireless controller that comes close to the quality of the 'Cube's Wavebird. You can control everything using the keyboard though, so a gamepad isn't necessary (Except for organizing your inventory, I can't seem to find the keyboard command for that).

um, nope, thats a purposely designed part of the game: seperating you from your freinds. In Square's infinate wisdom they decided to randomly assign each player a server, with no real way of picking a server that your freinds are on.

you can re-roll (re-make) a character over and over again untill you wind up on you freind's server; or you could save up a bunch of (in game) money to buy a world pass to have the privilage of starting a character on your friend's server.

of course by the time you do that, to quote Penny Arcade, your freind will be level awsome, and you'll be level retarded. sorry buddy.

yeah, you or your friend will need to save up for a world pass. then whoever has the world pass will give the code to the other. they will make a new game and enter in the world pass at the character creation. they will then enter the name of the server the first person is on.

Here's my favorite FFXI info site. read up.
