I'm almost wanting to second this, but I think actually still being able to use the word "transphobe" is sort of important in terms of reasonably discussing the issue.

Conversely, I don't want to filter "idiot fuck" to "transphobe" either because I feel that "idiot fuck" is too important a term for everyone to risk losing.

My objection here is that you're choosing to see transphobia in places where it isn't present. Im not defending Atlus with that, but rather objecting because if I say "I don't feel this example clearly demonstrates that the author is transphobic" that shouldn't inherently make me ONE OF THEM.

Its become bandwagon sensationalism where people who are not supporting Atlus are dressed up as supporting Atlus so we can make an example of the publicly.

Someone who is personally affected by it was excused for, very justifiably, flipping out over it.

The Kanji example is actually how homophobic people would react. It isn't Atlus being that way. So anything that isn't Yu saying, "Gay people are cool!" is Atlus being homophobic. Thanks for clearing that up.

Seriously, defending homophobic behavior is bad enough and, yet, we're somehow supposed to expect that it would go over well when arguing the point to a homosexual who is trying to organize a protest against homophobia among other things?

If she still has "man parts" then I can see it as trickery, if not then yes it is BS. Once you've gone the whole 9 it is no one's business.

This is what we call a "trigger". There is a whole host of negative emotions that come with being trans regardless of how you're treated. "Triggers" kick those into overdrive. The implication that we aren't allowed to date until we've "gone the whole 9" is awful. To say that showing an interest in someone without things progressing to a point where "man parts" would be relevant is trickery is ignorant at best.

Imposing restrictions on what we can do before completing transition when you don't know what all is involved is outright oppressive.

Why is Liz the only one you guys are upset about with respect to calling someone names and/or being insulting to that guy who was banned for his behavior? The implication here is that you only want to jump on Liz due to previous patterns. I can't help but wonder why there have been no posts complaining about PoS or Cabal.

I just can't believe it's possible to play Persona 4 and to not grasp how Naoto's portrayal was transphobic.

EDIT: I also like how Pip tries to characterize this as 'sensationalism.' Like, as if homosexuals and transsexuals have to exaggerate the degree with which homophobic or transphobic content has offended them personally just for the sake of a story. "Well, this homophobia didn't really offend me, but I'll score some points with the media and my friends if I pretend it matters!" If that isn't a heterosexual-male-institutionally-privileged way of downplaying the problem because it 'doesn't personally impact me, so what's the big deal,' I don't know what is.

Edit: I should put some more substance in here than that. So uh, Pip. You're totally wrong about gender roles and evolution. And wrong about women and sexuality. And wrong about Atlus not being Transphobic. Playing the victim card here is a bad move to take. Now if you are willing to back up what you are saying with some good sources, I promise to read them with an open mind.
