I've decided that Atlus needs boycotting, on account of the transphobia and sexism rampant in their games.

As such, I've started a Tumblr for just that.

The second picture in this link strikes me as a little weird. The cloth thing she's wearing covers her waist on the left side in the cover picture, but in the second picture it's pulled down below her waist.

Also, in the first picture, if you look closely behind the title, you can barely see that her breastplate bra... thing, almost touches the necklace, yet in the second picture they are quite far apart. While the second picture is vertically stretched compared to the first one, it's not enough to make that difference.

That. Right there. You need to stop doing that. It's pandering to assholes, not heterosexual males.

The pandering is to assholes, and it should be stated as such. It's about advertising to assholes. Assholes are the ones on whom it will work, and as such, assholes are the people they're pandering to there. The fact that those assholes are male and heterosexual is just distracting from the issue that they're assholes. As it is right now, you're focusing the problem is heterosexual males, where the problem is assholes. It doesn't matter what race gender ethnicity sexuality or religion the assholes are, because the problem is assholishness, not any of those details.

Edit: Like, as a heterosexual male, those pictures are offputting. I'd imagine I'm not the minority here. I was going to pass the blog along to a friend of mine who would be interested, but you're focused on the wrong things right now.

I never did hear much about Catherine, so I can't comment on that... I'd say Persona 3's whole beach trip makes complete sense for Junpei's character, but the trans lady...I wouldn't say the behavior is purely transphobia, think there's also supposed to be some crappy attempt at squick having the older woman be very open with her advances - being Japan, with the whole social stigma with men expecting women to be submissive and the "can't get married by 25, won't get married ever" thing...

But that's how I interpreted it.

Agreed. You've seen how there were numerous complaints about booth babes at E3, no? A lot of these were made by heterosexual males.

Like, to clarify my point, right now you're pushing this issue of advertising at the "heterosexual male gaze". This gives the wrong idea that if they had a 50/50 split of covers showing males and females equally posed like that, everything would be great. The problem as I see it isn't who they're advertising to, but what they're advertising, and you're not really addressing that, and even distract from it with your phrasing.

Please stop making terrible posts just because you're uncomfortable that the heterosexual male gaze is an actual thing and what is being targeted and pandered to with sexist marketing.

This is completely incorrect as the party as a whole not just Junpei, were only driven away once they knew the older woman was a trans woman.
