How where the Gates made? Heck if I know. I kind like the Fratricide legend, myself. You know...the one where the demon fights his brethren, and uses the bones of his slain enemies to build the Gates, and uses his own body to seal it? I've seen the Gates...they're made out of bone...and there's one big freakin' demon right on the front of 'em...so, yeah. Fratricide myth for me.

All know for certain is that the Mother of Hell is the key to opening the Gates...or at least, the demons think so.

So, we got to keep her away from the demons.

Only wish it was as easy as it sounds.

Groups Important to the RP

The Council: With so many organizations, old and new, fighting to keep mankind from being consumed by the dark, it was only a matter of time before they started talking to one another. The Council is made up of S.E.C.A., the Society, several of the major religious organizations, even the Sealers. The Wardens and the Vigilante hunters, not being organized beyond the sharing of information, are not seated on the Council officially, well respected Wardens and Hunters are members of the council to voice the opinion of the more “common man.” It was the council who decreed that the Mother of Hell should be protected, and began to gather protectors for her. However, the Council is unable to force any of the organizations to do anything, and as such, even though the Council has promised to protect the Chosen, Sealers and some religious groups are out to kill her.

The Protectors: A.k.a.: The Characters. Those chosen from within their organizations to keep the Mother of Hell out of the hands of the supernatural, and to protect her from the more “overzealous” organizations out to kill her. The Protectors also act as the final failsafe: should they fell, it is better that the Mother of Hell dies by their hand rather than be taken by the Dark. More than one Chosen has been killed by her Protectors throughout history. It should also be noted that Protectors have only a slightly higher survival rate than the Chosen, and as such, the Protectors are all volunteers.

The Other Side/ The Dark / The Enemy / The Demons: The prophesy of the Mother of Hell is directly tied to the realm that most humans refer to as Hell. Despite the efforts of the “good guys”, Hell Cults are spread out all over the place. Once word gets out that the Mother of Hell is manifest, these cults will be drawn to her location. See the “Demons” entry for more information.

The Mother of Hell / The Chosen: The centerpiece of this little adventure. A young woman is manifest as this every so often (no pattern has emerged throughout history), and her birth is easily divined by mages or others with the ability to scry the future. The long and the short of it is that the children of this woman will either open the Gates of Hell, allowing a full scale demonic invasion of Earth, of will forever seal the Gates closed, making it all out impossible for demons to manifest in this plane at all. It is generally believed if the child is part demon, or is raised by demons, it will be the destroyer rather than the savior. As such, the primary purpose of the Protectors is to keep the Mother of Hell out of the hands of the Dark at all costs.

In every case on history, the Mother of Hell was killed before she could bear children, retaining the current status quo.

Demons

Why is the Mother of Hell so important in the first place?

Because, with things as they are, demons (and most extra-dimensional beings, for that matter), cannot freely move between their realm (Hell), and the human realm (Earth, for those of you not paying attention). There are ways, but outside of the Gates of Hell being opened, it takes a rather drastic event for a demonic entity to appear on the mortal plane with its powers fully intact.

Least Demons (Possessing spirits): The least powerful demons on Earth are those who cannot physically manifest themselves in any way. They can control the mind of a human for a limited time, however. While possessed, the body of the human will feel no pain, and as such will continue on even if fatally damaged. However, once the possessing spirit is cast out, or leaves of its own free will, the host will bear the full brunt of any damage done to his body.

The first skill that the majority of monster hunters (and, of course, the Mother of Hell) learned was the ability to shield their minds from possessing demons, so only the unskilled are in danger of being possessed.

Lesser Demon: Lesser demons are those demons powerful enough to manifest themselves on the mortal plane, but with greatly reduced power. Often summoned by Hell Cults, lesser demons are usually what monster hunters go up against. Though more powerful than humans, any human with the right knowledge and equipment is more than a match for a lesser demon.

Lesser Demon Subtype: Blood Summoned: One of the more horrific ways to summon demons is by the way of animal or human sacrifice. Depending on what was used, the demon will be more powerful (for example, a rat won’t grant too much more power, but a bull would increase it’s power quite a bit…and a human sacrifice even more). This is because the demon will use the matter of the sacrifice to manifest its new body. Not as powerful as the demonic hybrid, but still a threat compared to lesser demons summoned without a sacrifice. A blood summoned is more than a match for individual hunters, and are best hunted with heavy weapons.

Lesser Demon Subtype: Demonic Hybrid: In some cases, a lesser demon has been known to make a “pact” with a willing human. This allows the demon to use the body of the human to manifest itself, allow it to retain more of it’s power, more often than not at the price of the human’s life, for once the demon is manifests itself, the body is changed beyond repair. Demonic Hybrids are much more powerful than lesser demons since they require less of their power to remain manifest, since they draw on the lifeforce of their willing host. Unless taken the demon by complete surprise or having some other tactical advantage, no single hunter can take down a hybrid.

Greater Demon: Only a handful of times in history has a greater demon been summoned successfully. To summon a greater demon, a blood ritual that requires the life of dozens, if not hundreds, of sacrifices must be performed. Due to the complexity of these rituals, they are extremely hard to plan, and even harder to keep secret. The various hunter organizations have kept the number of greater demons being summoned to a bare minimum…the last known case was in San Francisco in 1906. A number of “natural disasters” were in fact the aftermath of a greater demon being summoned. Once summoned, a greater demon is a terrible foe indeed. While not immortal, they can take an amazing amount of punishment, and have access to magic far beyond the abilities of humans. In every known case, the demon was destroyed soon after summoning, but always at a high cost in human lives. It should be noted that, even with the complex ritual, the greater demon retains only part of his true power.

Outcasts / Fallen : The most rare case for a demon to become manifest on the mortal plane is for it be an “outcast” demon or a “fallen” angel. Outcasts are demons who have broken free of the thrall of a demon lord and have escaped one way or another from the dark realms and into the mortal plane. A fallen is an divine being who has been exiled from the high planes for high crimes against the order there. Only 3 Outcasts and 2 Fallens are confirmed on the records of all the organizations. The most terrifying aspect of this that these being have access to their full power, since they are physically in this plane, not just manifesting from another dimension. The power of the demon depends varies, of course. Should the Gates of Hell be opened, all demonic entities would rate in this category, having full access to their power in the mortal realm.

Magic

I’ve tried to develop this system for magic in the attempt to keep it from being “uber”, if you catch my drift. I’d like for magic and technology to basically be on the same level so that the people who decided they’d rather be a gunslinger than a mage don’t fell like their just there as meatshields.

Anyways…

For the purpose of this RP, magic will come in two classes:

Sigil Magic: This is also known as “lower magic”. Sigil magic is the simpler of the two classes of magic, as it uses a symbol to channel the power of the incantation to produce the desired effect. The obvious downside is, of course, that you need a sigil, not just the incantation, to produce the intended result. Sigils can be put on any medium, such as discs, cards, or even Post-It Notes (always the popular option for up and coming mages).

For sigil magic to work, the sigil has to be touching the intended target. Want to blow up a wall? Put a sigil on it. Want to throw a fireball? Well…that’s trickier. More often than not, for attacks like that, you throw the sigil right after you complete the spell, preferably before it turns into a fireball or what have you. This is one of the greatest limitations of sigil magic. However, the advantage to sigil magic is that you can affect several sigils with one incantation. For example, if you have three sigils in hand, you can use a single incantation to turn all three into fireballs.

Incantation Magic: Also known as “higher magic”. This is used by those who can cast magic without a sigil. It takes much more focus to be able to channel power with a sigil, but the upside is that you can cast it anywhere, anytime since you don’t have to take time to make the sigil, or need to have a sigil on hand. Not everyone is able to graduate to higher magic, and most people who can are members of The Society. The only limit to incantation magic is how fast the caster can speak. Also, unless the spell is specific for a multiple effect, only one reaction is produced per spell (for example, the incantation to throw a fireball would be different than the incantation to throw three).

The average incantation can be spoken in 2-3 seconds. More complex spells can require anywhere from 10 seconds to hours, depending on the desired result. Long term spells, such as a permanent ward of protection or whatnot, may require a sigil to serve as the focus for the spell, even if it is a higher level spell.

I won’t spell out what isn’t or is allow as far as magic goes…just remember to keep it under control…this isn’t an Avatar RP.

Sidenote: The combination of magic and technology:

Outside of a few basic things, magic and technology don’t really jive that well. One of the more popular combinations that do work is to add a magic effect to bullets. However, this tends to be outrageously expensive as each bullet must be individually crafted, and the incantation must be crafted to not go off until the bullet is fired, which is a labor intensive process. Your average magic bullet will cost hundreds of dollars, and is a single use item.

However, that is not the only use of combining magic and technology. If you have an idea that isn’t over the top, tell me about it, and I’ll dis/approve it on a case by case basis.

Major Organizations:

The Supernatural Elimination and Containment Agency (S.E.C.A.): The government agency in charge of handling supernatural phenomena/outbreaks/whatever. They generally rely heavily on technology, with very few magic adepts in their ranks. Very few people know about this organization…only a handful of people at the Pentagon and a few long-timers in the Senate. S.E.C.A. agents range from investigators to the highly skilled “Strike Teams”, and are armed basically armed with every weapon on the planet…including access to nuclear weapons as a final option to prevent an “outbreak” scenario. And if you not sure what an outbreak scenario is, you need watch Night of the Living Dead, and that will give you a general idea.

Most personnel in the organization were recruited after they had an experience with the supernatural…it is standard operating procedure for the organization to extend those who they rescue/help/come across an invitation to join the organization. This keeps the number of available agents high, and has the added bonus of cutting down on “vigilante monster hunters” who tend to not be as secretive or careful in their dealings with the “other side”.

As to the Mother of Hell, S.E.C.A. is firmly in on the side of protecting her.

Characters from S.E.C.A. will be skilled in firearms and other such weapons, but will tend to shy away from anything magical. They also have access to military-grade weaponry…something that “civilian” hunters won’t.

The Society: Perhaps the oldest known counter-supernatural organization on the planet, The Society has been fighting monsters and demons for well over a thousand years. Due to it’s age, the Society relies heavily on magic, as it has for centuries. This is not to say that the Society doesn’t use modern technology, but compared to many other organizations out there, it is definitely one that specializes in the use of magic to combat the supernatural. The Society is funded by its own members…many of which come from long lines of aristocracy and as such, have deep pockets.

The Society is one of the organizations trying to protect the Chosen.

Characters from The Society will tend to be magic users. See my description on magic for details.

The Wardens: The Wardens are not an organization as much as they are a group of free-lance monster hunters that share information. The Wardens are different from other such groups in that most of the players in this organization have some sort of special ability that make it easier for them to hunt demons (see the bio for Nat Jackson for an example). However, other than the occasional gathering to take down a large group of monsters, the Wardens are an organization in name only, not in practice. Each “member” is responsible for his own gear, and as such, there is a healthy mishmash of magic and technology.

The Wardens are deeply split on the matter of the Mother of Hell. Some members believe that it’s a myth, some believe that she should be protected, many are out to kill her. Because of this, the information network of the Wardens is currently in shambles, as the members don’t want to tip their hands to opposing factions.

Characters who are Wardens will be allowed to have a single special ability, at the price of not having as good of equipment as a character from S.E.C.A. and other such groups would have.

Religious Organizations: Many of the major religious organizations have an anti-monster task force, a la Section XIII and the Hellsing organization from the anime/manga Hellsing. For the sake of ease (and to avoid insulting anyone), Religious organizations have access to holy incantations (rather these are just specialized magic spells or actual assistance from a high power is up for debate and way out of anybody’s pay grade). Holy magic is anti-demon or defensive in nature…at the cost of the more flexible magic as used by the likes of the Society. Holy incantations tend to be anti-demon and nothing else. Holy orders also have access to exorcisms, allowing them to free people from possessing demons, and totally screw over demonic hybrids, and often have relics which serve as potent anti-demon weapons.

Their outlook on the Mother of Hell depends on the faction. Some are neutral, some for protecting her, others believe it is for the best that she dies.

You are free to make up your own religious organization if you wish…just avoid insulting other people’s religions, please.

The Sealers: Another ancient group, not as old or powerful as The Society, but definitely powerful. The Sealers are very much in favor of the term “shoot first and ask questions later” when it comes to dealing with the supernatural. Members of the Sealers are believed to be behind many historical witch hunts, including the infamous Salem Witch Trails. While they do get the job done, they tend to worry less about collateral damage than the other organizations.

Sealers often work with “vigilante” hunter groups, which gives them access to local expertise (and cheap cannon fodder) in many places. They use both magic and technology, but are not as skilled in it as the more exclusive groups (i.e., don’t have the gear of S.E.C.A. or the magical firepower of the Society, or the relics of the Religious Organizations).

The Sealers believe that allowing the Mother of Hell to live is to invite the destruction of mankind, and are actively hunting her.

Unless you can give me a really, really, really, really good reason, your character can’t be a Sealer. They’re just your token baddie group.

Vigilante Hunters: The small-time groups take are almost exclusively local organizations, lacking even the information sharing of the Wardens. These range from groups of concerned citizens who hunt to keep their families safe to rednecks looking for a good time to sadists who figured out its easier to get away with torturing things that aren’t human. Armed with the knowledge they’ve uncovered in old books or online, and armed with whatever they can afford, Vigilante Hunters are often seen as the grass roots of the battle against The Other Side...whether they are better or worst than the monsters they hunt depends on the person.

Chances are that the player characters won’t be Vigilante Hunters…most probably aren’t even aware of the prophesy of the Mother of Hell. However, if you can think up a good way from them to be including in the Protectors, I’ll allow you to be a Vigilante.

Congratulations, you finally made it to the character creation portion of this sign-up thread.

Character Name: Obvious, no?

Gender: Another category I hope is rather self-explanatory.

Age: Again, duh. Given the young age of the Chosen, a number of the protectors should be the same age so that someone is with her, even at school or whatever. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a high school kid if you don’t want to be.

Organization: What organization are you with. Feel free to use one of the ones I made up, or make up your own. If you make up your own, post a description of them. I retain my right as GM to veto, of course. If you want to be a vigilante, give me a good reason why you’re numbered with the Protectors.

Class: Are you a mage? A gunslinger? A priest who specializes in the use of anti-demonic relics? A Buddhist monk that can kick unholy amounts of can? You get the point.

Special Abilities: Also rather self-explanatory. If you must have a special ability, please try to limit yourself to one or two, and don’t go overboard with the power. I will veto anything I think is too uber…such as splitting planets with swords or whatever the heck it was Pyros and Raiden were talking about in the interest thread.

Bio: Ah…everyone loves a good character backstory…with the keyword on that part being good. :p.

Equipment/Belongings: If you’re a gunslinger, what the heck do you sling? If you’re a sigil mage, what are your sigils on? If you’re a relic user, what the heck is your relic? Stuff like that, along with any personal touches you want to throw in.

…Bam, said the lady! Sign-up post done, and I still have 4 minutes left in “tonight”. My characters will be up shortly.

If anyone has a question about a character concept, or for about something about the RP in generally, feel free to ask me here, PM me, or IM me. I'll try to remember to turn my IM on when I'm on the computer.

Example / My Characters on this post due to length.

Character Name: Duncan McCragge

Gender: Male

Age: 32

Organization: Society

Class: Low Level Incantation Mage

Special Abilities: Just to the point where he can cast spells without sigils. Specializes in lightning elemental spells, and is somewhat skilled as a knife fighter…knives being his favored sigil medium

Bio: Duncan is the last of the McCragges.

Man…that just drips with cliché, doesn’t it?

::Portions of Duncan’s backstory have to wait until AB decides what to do with the history of his character::

Duncan is well to do…mostly due to the fact that the McCragges are a very old, very well off family. He tends to dress in good suits, even when he expects to get his hands dirty. He has red hair, green eyes, and stands about six feet tall, and despite the fact he wasn’t born there, he has a hint of a Scottish accent, thanks to his family.

Equipment/Belonging:

Throwing Knives: Given his personal family fortune, Duncan spares no expense on what he uses as his sigil mediums, and favors knives in this regard. Throwing knives are his favorite, but he keeps at least sigilled combat knife on his at all times.

McCragge Manor: The (somewhat) ancestral home of the McCragges, been in the family since the early 1800s when the McCragges moved to the states. This is also the place where many of the characters (at least those who want free room and board) will be put up for the RP.

McCragge Manor is one of the better protected places in the world. The place was built by members of the Society, and as such, the place is covered by warding sigils and circles of protection. The kept out any demon short of a hybrid, and keeps people from teleporting in/out at will (it wouldn’t do to have a Hell Cultist teleport in, snag the Chosen, and teleport out, now would it?). It is a large house, and can easily accommodate very character…unless they’d rather have their own lodging.

Cliché red sports car: Hey, he’s rich…he can have his little vices.

Other standard stuff…nice suits…spell books, 9mm pistol for those little emergencies.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Character Name: Jared Greyhall

Gender: Male

Age: 17

Organization: The Order of the Blade. A religious organization that has in its possession (or at least claims to) the sword of the demon Fratricide. While the blade works just as normal blade for a human, it could act as an anchor for a demon, possibly giving it the power of an Outcast, as such, the Order exists to keep it out of the hands of demons.

Class: Exorcist

Special Abilities: Exorcise: Being an exorcist, Jared can…you know…exorcise. Most often used on least demons, driving them out possess people and back into Hell, it can also be used to sunder the bond between a demon and his host in a demonic hybrid. Usually not too helpful for the hybrid, as the human form is often beyond repair by the time the demon takes over…but it works in a bind.

Banishing sword: With this skill, Jared can use an incantation on his blade to make it so it will banish a demon from this plane if he pierces the monster’s heart or brain. Works wonderfully against lesser demons, but with reduced effect against blood-summoned and hybrids. The strike will disrupt the demon’s manifestation, making it more vulnerable for a short time, but not banish it.

Spiritual Shield: Often used in conjunction with Cast Out to keep from being possessed while he is busy with the ritual. Spiritual Shield will repel least demons, but is less effective against others. Lesser demons trying to break through will feel like they’re trying to walk through a wall of string…it’s hard at first, but once there is a break, it goes down fast. Hybrids and Blood Summoned are even less bothered by it. It also offered limited protection against magic (can take about a fireball or two before it shatters), and against physical objects (can’t stop a bullet or anything, but thrown / dropped objects it works against).

Jared is also somewhat skilled in swordplay…let’s face it, he’s not old enough to be a real master.

Bio: Jared is something a prodigy. Exorcisms are usually the realm of highly experienced priests…so when a young child showed the knack of being able to sense and dispel demons, the Order of the Sword quickly brought him in and honed his skills. It wasn’t long thereafter that Pamelia was discovered to be the Mother of Hell, and given his age, Jared was spent in as a Protector. He’s lived at McCragge for a few months. Up until a few years ago, he was basically just a normal kid, and still tries to act like it…even if he can’t help but to act a bit egotistical. Anyone who has been called a prodigy can’t help but to do that, pretty much.

Equipment: Blade of the Order: Every member of the Order of the Blade gets one of these holy relics, modeled after the sword of Fratricide, to help them in their fight against the demons. The blade is nearly unbreakable, but the blade will cut nothing save the flesh of demons. For Jared, the Blade also as a focus for his incantations, allowing him to cast them faster with that blade than he could without them.

Blade Shard: Jared has been equipped with a small fragment from the blade of Fratricide itself. The shard is within a small glass vial. It will react in the presence of demons (it will rattle around like a jumping bean), and serves as an early warning system for the exorcist.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Character Name: Nathaniel Jackson

Gender: Male

Age: 80

Organization: Supernatural Elimination and Containment Agency

Class: Retired Gunslinger / Council Liaison to the Protectors

Special Abilities: Back in the day, Nathaniel was a skilled gunman. However, he is years out of practice, and is definitely not as young as he used to be.

Bio: Nathaniel Jackson has the dubious honor of being the last surviving Protector of the previous Chosen: Anna Granger.

He was at the tender age of 17 when he was recruited straight out of the Army into the then-still-new SECA, and was placed on the Protectors.

Anna Granger was the first Chosen that someone other than the ancient organizations was placed in charge of guarding. All of the organizations were still reeling from the loss of manpower they suffered thanks to the outbreak of the Second World War (being part of an ancient order doesn’t get you out of the draft), but the newly formed SECA was able to quickly fill their ranks by drawing off of the regular army. As such, they were the only organization that had the manpower to safeguard the Mother of Hell.

They failed…almost catastrophically.

The demons found out about Anna also immediately after she came into SECA’s care. For six months, the Protectors fled cross country, until they were cornered in an run-down convent in the American mid-west. With a small army of cultists using the convents inhabitants to create blood-summoned, the Protectors had no real chance of holding. All of the Protectors were killed, save for Nathaniel, who was savagely wounded. The only thing that saved the world from demonic invasion was Anna herself. Using Nathaniel’s side-arm, which he lost in the struggle, she committed suicide. The demons, their prize lost to them, left, leaving Nathaniel to almost bleed to death by the time SECA reinforcements reached the Convent.

With his wounds, Nathaniel could no longer perform the duties of a SECA strike team member. He did, however, go on to become a very skilled and highly regard investigator, until his retirement in the 1990s.

With the discover of a new Mother of Hell, however, Nathaniel was called out of retirement to act as an advisor and liaison for the Council in regard to the Protectors, who technically don’t fall under the preview of any of the organizations. Nat, who still has nightmares and feelings of guilty in regards to Anna Granger, is resolved to see that the same fate does not befall Pamelia Barsonne.

Nat looks every much his age, and walks with a limp and a cane, thanks to the wounds he suffered while trying to protect the last Chosen. Visible scars on his face, torso, arms…pretty much his whole body…are also from that ill-fated battle. Despite this, he is still functional and independent. He does travel with an aide, but that’s mostly for appearances, given his position.

Equipment: [i] Carries with him a small-caliber service pistol. Not really useful against demons…but now that he’s back in uniform, he feels as though he should go around unarmed.

For those of you paying attention from the last RP: Duncan is pretty much the same, Jared is less useless, and Nathaniel is older and has Tessa's job.

Astral Harmony will become famous soon enough. Eventually. Maybe.
Default

And this is the Mother of Hell's profile.

Character Name: Pamelia Barsonne

Gender: Female.

Age: 17

Organization: S.E.C.A. (dependant on the Protectors instead of being a Protector herself)

Class: Mother of Hell

Special Abilities
- Parkour: She can't hold a candle to Faith from Mirror's Edge, but Pamelia's rough early life on the streets has taught her well. She is able to quickly scale fences and slide under low obstructions to get out of bad situations where her Protectors cannot assist her.
- Unorthodox Combat: Bats. Pipes. Broken glass bottles. Bricks. 2x4s. Pamelia has some basic combat skill with various things one might find in the nearby environment, but demons and trained soldiers are far beyond her ability. Still, if it can buy her time...

Bio: Born into near-penniless poverty. Father is George Barsonne. Mother is Clarice Barsonne (not officially married). Grew up around loving parents and friends. She possesses a kind heart, a strong spirit, a good education thanks to friends who could actually afford to go to school, and a healthy dose of street smarts from her life.

This humble yet happy life of hers ended in one bloody night during her thirteenth year. Someone found her. Someone who knew who she really was and what she could do. Her loving parents were slaughtered before her eyes, as well as several of her homeless neighbors in one brutal attack. Pamelia managed to stay ahead of their sight just long enough to meet with loyal S.E.C.A. members who spirited the exhausted and crying teenager away from the madness of that night.

Now seventeen years old, Pamelia has continued to grow up surrounded by love and has retained her kind nature and determination despite the change in her destiny and environment. She keeps in touch with her friends who taught her things from the school she visited on occasion. A very pro-close the hellgate girl, she harbors a deep hatred for the monsters who killed her family and homeless friends and has worked hard to learn cooking and cleaning to take care of at least some of her Protector's needs.

Appearance: Has dark brown hair and deep green eyes. Wears circle-rimmed glasses. She often wears short-sleeved turtleneck sweaters with denim pants and sneakers. Her hair is waist-length, and she braids it at the neck and has it hang in front on her right shoulder as her trademark style.

That's good, right? I decided to go with the "poor until 13" idea.

Go TB! you managed to make your self-imposed deadline! You sure proved me wrong. Anyway I'm making a placeholder considering it's 4am at the moment and I need some rest before I brainstorm up a character.

However, before I go, I feel compelled to point this out since I know if I don't someone else will. Wight24, seriously man, you need to run your stuff through spellcheck or something. At least re-read your posts before you post 'em. There are so many mistakes my eyes are almost bleeding. I've taken the liberty to correct your post so you know how many mistakes you made. My corrections are the words in bold.

Please keep in mind I'm not doing this to tear you down. I'm trying to help you out 'cause I know you've been having a rough run on the forum so far. Now while in most forums, heck even other parts of this forum (sometimes) it's alright if your grammar slides a little. However the RP forum is a place for literary expression, a place where grammar and clean messages are expected and almost required. We're creating a story as a group and it makes it easier on everyone if that story is a legible as possible.

Remember, when anyone on the forum tells you that you need to improve your writing, it's not to tear you down. It's to help you better yourself so that you in turn can help others as well.

Consider this a placeholder. I have to decide if I want to resurrect Trish or come up with someone new.

AB: Yeah, that's fine.

Wight24: Wight...while, technically there is nothing wrong with your post...other than Hell Cults are rather more circumspect in their practices and your under gunned for a SECA agent...there is something we must discuss. Actually, it looks like Arcanum covered it for me.

In all seriousness, he is right...both in what he is saying, and in that he isn't saying it to tear you down. A lot of people (including myself, probably) have to reminded that the RP forum isn't really the place for hastily written posts. Everyone is going to reading through pages of text, and it helps everyone if that text is easy to read. We're not going to spelling or grammar nazis (if we were, I sure as heck wouldn't still be posting here!), but we do require that you put at least a little effort into the formatting of your posts.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to say "no" until you can clean up your sign-up a bit. If you want advice on how to do it, don't be afraid to ask anyone here...we were all newbies once. And if you want advice on what kind of firepower to get, I'm sure I can scrounge up the posts from last time when I was giving advice to other people (well...advice from my friend who's in the army).

Character Name: Richard Miles

Gender: Male

Age: 35

Organization: S.E.C.A.

Class: Special Agent

Special Abilities:
  • Exemplary firearms proficiency, particularly pistols.
  • Proficient use of military Hand to Hand combat techniques.
  • Training in conventional demon confrontation tactics.
  • General understanding of interrogation and torture.
  • A capable grasp of investigation techniques.

Bio: To begin his real name isn't Richard Miles but -classified- born in -classified- to his parents -classified- who for the most part kept his childhood dark with constant arguments that at times came to blows as well as their general neglect of him growing up. He found that life in his family, no matter which member, shared in this strange chaos of mutual hate and passionate attachment. The longer he stared at it the more it made him sick. He needed to find a way out of chaos as soon as he could to a place where order was king.

He found it in the military.

A soldier in the -classified- branch of the US military he was sent as a job in intelligence, but rather than cracking codes and messages he was sent to crack people. He was rather good at it, reprogramming the brainwashed, interrogating the weak willed, torture of the strong willed. It was all a fine thing for him. It would seem that his calling was in the works of intelligence, and for keeping him away from his parents he planned to stay in the military a long time.

Of course then he met -classified- a strange man believed to have secrets of a strange cult that had captured and murdered a soldier in -classified-. He figured out later the S.E.C.A. had assumed this a terrorist event since there had been no sign of a demon coming forth thus far.

The strange man would prove this to be false.

Not long into the proceedings the man began speaking it what appeared to be nonsense but one of the codebreakers revealed was ancient Hebrew, he would swing about wildly and scream at him. The room would grow hot. The man would cackle loud. Suddenly he would fall silent. Then it all went to hell.

The man had been a hybrid, a slowly changing hybrid but one nonetheless. It had hurled him through the two way mirror and begun its havok on the small base. Men attempted to accost it but these soldiers had barely had any sort of conventional arms training, they were eggheads after all. Most of the men were killed, Richard barely got away at all. Saved as it was by his initial unconsciousness, the distraction of the initial attempt to constrain then kill the beast, but most of all by the arrival of the S.E.C.A.

No longer blind to the knowledge of these things he was accepted into the S.E.C.A. as an Agent, a literal man in black set with dealing with outbreaks like the one he experienced. He honed his use of guns. He learned how to use his hands better. He asked questions about how to kill them. He showed his worth in the field. So he was given a new assignment. Possibly the most important he has ever received. To guard the Mother of Hell.

And he will.

Equipment/Belongings:
  • One Desert Eagle Mark XIX using .50 AE cartiges.
  • Four extra clips for said Desert Eagle.
  • One CZ 75b using 9mm ammo with extended capacity magazine.
  • Three extra clips for said pistol.
  • Pure black Ford Crown Victoria Interceptor with tinted windows.
    • In the back is a FN Scar assault rifle.
    • Two fully loaded clips are located nearby the rifle.
    • In the trunk is bonus ammo for all his weaponry.

Appearance: Richard looks like a government agent. Fairly tall, white, black hair slicked back, a faint sign of age, black sunglasses, and a black suit. He would tell you this is a uniform thing but the truth is he likes the response the look gives him from normal people. They tend to snap into order.

Secret AGENT MAN! Ha I've always wanted to build a guy like this. I stepped a bit past the whole two abilities thing, but I figure they should be fine since none of them are magic and I think that was what you were trying to have people hold up on.

Character Name: Damien Quarlel

Gender: Male

Age: 20

Organization: Warden

Class: Hammer Specialist for lack of a better name

Special Abilities: Damien has a sixth sense, allowing him to detect demons within 25 meters of his person. Not too useful for hunting them but good for preventing sneak attacks

Bio: Throughout his life Damien has always been a slightly odd person. As a child he was calmer then most but unusually lost in his thoughts all the time. He always knew there was another sense that the other children didn't have, one that he couldn't define it's purpose. He just had this feeling that there were monsters despite what his parents and teachers told him and he couldn't be convinced otherwise. This made him somewhat of an outcast throughout his schooling and the endless target of ridicule which was promptly ignored.

After he turned 18 he decided to try and prove himself correct, that monsters were in fact real. So he started hunting for them whenever he could and eventually found some proof. Unfortunately the proof was him coming upon a demon eating some poor recently killed corpse. He decided the proof could wait and ran as fast as he could away. He had noticed however that the sense he had always wondered about had found it's purpose. He knew the demon was there before seeing it. He couldn't explain it in logical terms he just knew. As such he decided to put his sense to good use and began hunting demons. Shortly after beginning his hunt he became acquainted with other Wardens and "joined" them in their neverending hunt.

Equipment and Belongings: A 9mm pistol and a sledgehammer. The pistol is more of a pre-emptive weapon then anything, weakening off the demon if possible before using his weapon of choice; the sledgehammer. He goes by the principle of "If you hit it enough it'll stop moving eventually" and as such tends to overdo it when using the hammer but so far the philosophy has worked for him.
A simple one-bedroom apartment that he is leasing
A rather old and rather beat up black car, nothing special about it

Appearance: Damien tends to look a little distant and unfocused in everyday life, almost as if he's not really listening to what people are saying most of the time. His eyes are a gray-blue and he has short though well kept blond hair. While hunting demons Damien typically wears a black long sleeve shirt and brown leather pants, as well as a black leather coat to go over it. Should someone come upon him after a succesful hunt he tends to look very very blood spattered due to his overzealous tactics.

Editted as per your critique. Also I ninja'd you by like an hour. Freaking awesome

Overcast: Yeah, that's alright...a good portion of that could of been covered under the catch-all phrase "military training". You won't really have to worry about ammo, though...if I was going for realism, there wouldn't be demons running around.

Approved.

With that, I'm to bed. It's fricken' 4 am.

EDIT

Frickin' ninja'd!

DanteFalcon: I just got a few nit-picks for ya.

The "sense demons at a mile thing" is a bit much...in fact, it's way much. Let's face it, a mile is a lot of space for a sixth sense to constantly monitor, not to mention for a GM to constantly have to drop hints of "there may be a demon here" and "there may be a demon there". If you insist on the sense demons, we'd have to tone it down quite a bit...a few dozen meters at most. If that's unacceptable, you can always change the ability.

Also, if your class if gunslinger, why the heck is your primary weapon a sledgehammer?

Fix those and you should be in business.
