I think it's great that Jim Davis has stumbled onto the perfect way to write a believably insane character, even if he doesn't implement it.

There were some "Jon Arbuckle talking to his cat" comics that are floating around. Somehow those ones aren't even nearly as funny.

Some of them are a lot funnier, some of them are a lot worse too. It's hit and miss.

Do you mean Arbuckle? Where people recreate the Garfield strips without Garfield's (or any animal's) thought bubbles? While it's quality might not be quite as consistant, there are some great comics in there, as well as some wonderful surreal interpretations of the strips. It's like Postmodernist Garfield.

there was also Arbuckle's World, and Arbuckle's World Today, which was the more conventional approach to the story of Jon Arbuckle and his silent cat, but both of those seem to have fallen off of blogspot and, therefore, the internet.

Like the one POS posted, where you remove Garfield's thoughts so it's just a man talking to his cat, or something different?

I find these Garfield-less ones to be many many magnitudes of humor funnier, and in some instances soul-crushingly sad. At least with Garfield still in the frame, but not talking, you can pretend that Jon is trying to have some fun with his (only?) feline friend. When he is alone, you kind of have to laugh to keep from crying.

Without Garfield, Jon is just someone who is insane.

With Garfield, he is a very, very lonely man who only has his cat to talk to.
