M.u.g.e.n.
It was one of those days, when you start cleaning your room from all the clothes in the floor, the dust and dirt under the furniture, and all the CDs, scattered around in your desk, when I found one of my old projects back when I was still at seventh grade. A "MUGEN" CD, with a very heavy cast of characters (A total of 120).
As nostalgia invaded my mind, I decided to play a round. It was a very nice experience. So, my next step, would be to see if I could find anything online to keep building the game (though I do have a huge cast of characters, my stages aren't as varied, I'm afraid). It seems like the MUGEN comunity is dead, for I found little information regarding this, and the official site for this software, was no longer avaiable. This spawns a series of doubts. Did the MUGEN community die? Are the MUGEN creators retired from this buisness? Does anyone here even know what MUGEN is? In case MUGEN is still very much alive, where can I find support and material for it?

This is only the second time I have ever encountered anyone who knows what Mugen is, the first being a person I encountered on Xanga.com. What is this mysterious game? What power does it hold over the imaginations of those who become involved with it's forsaken software?

Isn't it some sort of fighting game editor?
I recall many or a maybe just a year back finding several sites that had something to do with this Mugen thing, and featured characters from fighting games or something. If it's on the web, I usually have seen it once.

There is/used to be websites around there that had characters, scenarios, music, sounds, patches and themes of all kinds. It had quite an impact, and if I do recall correctly, most of these pages where written in french. Since I longed "retired" from the Mugen business, I don't know what new things have come about. And since Google couldn't help me out, my best bet is that is has worn off, or at least; lessen. I hope I'm wrong, because it has been a very nice game to mingle with.

I think I have found something that will help you in your quest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.U.G.E.N, not only saying a little about what MUGEN is (if you'd like to expand on the article, please do so) but proving some links to the MUGEN community. I often find that if Google won't give you something, it never hurts to check Wikipedia. Especially for something obscure like this.

I'll be damned, why didn't I think of that?
Also, your always saving my butt. You have my thanks. Well, with that, I should expand my collection, and hopefully, encourage other guys around the boards to create their own stuff (downloaded or original, anything goes).

You've peaked my interest, Black.
I'll see what I can see, and get back to you. [EDIT]: I don't understand, it says that for windows, you can download a patch. Is the patch the actual engine to use it, or is it just to make the original engine compatible with Windows?

Too much awesome for such a small space. Oh well. You can still punch your mother...if you want... Originally, Mugen started off as a Windows/DOS program. To my understanding, it was always compatible with Windows. Then, Elecbyte moved platform to the Linux. That's about the time I left the Mugen society. I myself haven't seen this new version, but I might try to get around to upload what I got for your enjoyment.

This looks...incredibly complicated o_0
I downloaded that patch (It's all you need, I think). The game itself would actualy be pretty solid alone if not for having only one character. After playing a few practice rounds, I wanted to make a character and became totally lost. I checked the Wiki links for tutorials but got nothing that would help me start out. I'm going to go search some more, because this does looks really fun. |
