Eh, who ever let a little thing like that get in the way of a good argument?

Actually, they CAN be expected to be policing forums, threads, and posts, because that's their job as mods. If they can't be around to do it, someone else should do it. You don't hire someone to do a job, and say 'oh, it's okay if you never show up for work. I'm sure the fact that we hired you will be enough for the job to get done. Don't bother working.'

I'm not asking that people be banned with a trigger fuse, I'm asking that the rules be enforced, and that people follow the rules. despite what fifthfiend claims, the rules are only being enforced when it's convenient for the mods, and not when it is necessary. Certainly, the mods' convenience is probably also their only available time to be enforcing, but it's not enough...wait a minute....Why are we talking about mods at all? All I'm asking is that the rules about no religious discussion in the discussion forum be enforced on a basis of who does it, and not on a basis of which thread it occurs in. Those five members of the community can take a week off if necessary. I figure a warning's all they need, but a carefully timed warning, which happens before the thread gets out of hand.

you just undermined yourself. You're saying that prominent members of the forums take their punishments, and return. Sounds pretty good to me.

You realise That they're not paid to do it? This isn't a regular job, which they still have to do, this is just something they do becuase they're good at it.

Thing is, the "truth" from your perspective can be completly seperate from what the truth actualy is. Not many people are actualy offended by the truth, but they can be more offended than you can imagine by someones incorrect version of the truth. You can, for instance, be asked by a friend to do something. Then you use every waking moment to work for the fulfilment of that favour, but it's alot tougher to do than you first thought it would. Then the friend gets impatient when you don't deliver what he still percives to be a simple and easy task and calls you lazy. I'd be offended there, even if it is, from his perspective, the truth.

I don't think we're actually paying the mods to moderate the forum. You also realize that there are certain mods who rarely show up nowadays right? (Drooling Iguana and Viper Daimao).

Lets see the other mods.

Kurosen has a life with Mashirosen and is mostly busy making the comic/writing. I don't think I've seen him do any modding other than making the post for each comic. Live in Florida.

Shiney and RaiRai are married so I doubt they can BOTH be online at once. Shiney also is good friends with Brian (unless I'm mistaken) and they have to deal with me every once in a while when I go into "SHINEY IS A GOD" mode. Live in England.

Krylo is in college? Moniters 8-bit chat to make sure there isn't TOO much abusing going on. Sleeps who knows when but I'm assuming he's a vampire and only walks at night. Lives on the eastern seaboard of the US?

Meister is Meister. He's usually fun to have around but he does have a pretty hectic life constantly helping friends move, him move, looking for places to live. Doing the homeless shtick inside homes. I think he's settled down now. Lives in Germany.

Croteam. haven't seen him around lately so can't say much about him. He does however show up every once in a while to do some modding.

Honestly, if anything, these people are doing a MARVELOUS job monitering the forums and such. Yes they may need a little help every now and then, but thats why we have the "report a post" button to help them stay on top of things.

EDIT: TO the mods. If I got any of your information wrong, or you want to edit the info I gave about you to better reflect you, feel free. I just gave what I could off the top of my head.

Meister also has been known to sit at the computer in the evenings, which is when he has time, for as long as two to three hours at a time, pretty much doing nothing but refreshing the forums to see if there's anything new. Tell you what, I'll ask everyone to post religious viewpoints only during that time.

You do realise the mods are, y'know, people? People volunteering? With Other Commitments?

You don't hire someone to do a job, and say 'oh, it's okay if you never show up for work. I'm sure the fact that we hired you will be enough for the job to get done. Don't bother working.'
Not mentioning that this isn't really a "job" more than something they do out of the goodness of their hearts (they could just browse around the forums like everyone else, but they are good enough to help out with keeping order on these forums just because they want to). And even if it WAS a real, paying job and someone was watching 24/7, it is IMPOSSIBLE to catch everything right when it starts (work at a daycare for awhile, you'll learn what I mean)

And if we start banning people off the drop of a hat, even if they aren't following the rules will turn this into some kind of wacko dictatorship. Eventually we'll have nobody left because
A. Everyone screws up from time to time
B. Others would be intimidated by the "iron fistiness" and leave to find more nice and fun forums.

Could you give an example of this? From what I'm seen the mods have done a wonderful job enforcing rules and such. Sure they let some minor stuff slide, but that's okay. Even real, paid police officers do that (turning without a turn signal, going 3 miles over the speed limit, etc are the kinds of stuff people get away with all the time, even if they are in front of a cop). Every time it was "necessary" the rules have been enforced. Threads get locked, people get warned, people get banned, etc etc etc. They're HUMAN and I'm glad because they understand that you may lose your cool that one time, or you mind spam without meaning to, stuff like that.
