Besides, if you abolish negarep, and someone does something stupid and deserving of negarep, then what do we do, posirep them to death?

I'll have to side agenst negitive rep also. If it's screwed up, offencive, or something like that, report it! I mean, yeah it's *very* rare for me to give rep, but that's just me.

We all have our reputations around here. Well, all the IMPORTANT people have our reputations around here. Rep counts don't affect that. They're just something neat for people to brag about.

Speaking of which: I have two green boxes, and thus I roxxorz all your soxxorz.

Not to mention that posirep is abused just as often as, if not more than, negarep. Being given to friends, pals, amigos, buddies, compatriarts, and comrades on the basis of said comradery instead of the actual content of a post.

I shall also throw in my voice among those who are anti-negrep. It can be abused far too easily and provides little to no useful information. Also, if you have a problem with a post, there are plenty of other options.

1.) Reply with a post, explaining why you think their post was bad/spammy/inappropriate

2.) Same as #1, except with a PM.

3.) Report the post to a mod

Do we really need a Rep or post count system? I think not. I know for a fact the rep system is easy to abuse. I've abused it plenty myself. Do I feel proud? No I don't. I just wanted to see if it could be done. And yes it is very easy to do. The Rep system as it stands is broken, and lets be honest, not necessary in the least, nor is the post count. So why do we need them?

No really, those who rack up nega-rep tend to get banned sooner or later anyway. If it comes right down to it though, I'm with krylo, except for one thing: no one minds positive rep.

It technically is abusing the system, yes, and if it comes to a discussion about the system per se it will have to be taken into account, but it's not a problem.

Why? They can both actually be usefull from time to time. If it happens I wont protest, but I think thigns are fine the way they are now.

Look, this whole thing started because people were using negative rep as a means to flame. That is the big problem -- using reputation as an extension of feelings towards a specific person and using it to belittle them. I don't know how this whole discussion came about, my whole intent for writing the post was we know who is using it to flame and we want that to stop.

As far as abolishing negative rep (or positive for that matter), hell I don't even know if I can. I know I could kill post count but as far as I can tell nobody gives a shit about that anyways. It's been forever since I heard anyone brag about their post count. And I don't see people whoring for rep (except for my lovely fiancee who is allowed to because I don't want to be a smoking crater in the ground) so I don't know what the fuss is about. People don't seem to use rep as leverage "I have more rep than you so I am a better person", but some do use it against others "I hate you so I will flame you in this rep comment".

And Jad I'm not sure what chat moments you are thinking about, but it's outside the forum. And I've never seen anyone go "I am better than you cause I have more rep". Competing about rep or whoring for it yes, but all in a joke like manner. As far as I know.
