I think Dirk was continuing with his counter-trolling against uu, it's pretty unlikely that he wouldn't be aware of chess, since the condesce would have to do a lot of work to retcon it out of earth's society and history.

That panel doesn't show the entire session, just a close-up of Skaia and Prospit happens to be right next to it.

If you saw the entire session, you'd see the Veil with all its meteors, and then Derse outside of that.
