This shouldn't be a surprise to anybody. Pretty much all the timeskip relationships were doomed from the start since they involved little to no narrative development at all, but made sense in context since it would be especially unbelievable that all these kids would spend that much time together without getting involved in any romantic entanglements whatsoever.

I'm still just curious to see if Hussie will actually go through with letting the last domino fall here, since the fan backlash will be monumental.

Im actually going to go out on a limb here and guess that since rose and kanaya are the only relationship we really saw have a real genesis, it will be one that survives.

I make no promises about this not being a rough patch that will inspire a period of the dramas, however.

It had about as much of a genesis as Dave and Terezi, aside from the fact that the audience was never shown the official start point of their relationship. But that's not much of a distinction, since their first kiss was the only part of Rose and Kanaya's relationship that we've seen until now.
