My guess?

Dave's brother already started the game, and has suffered a fate similar to Egbert's father. Dave is playing--he just doesn't know it yet.

Is... is Dave's bro wearing Kamina glasses? I mean, it's kinda hard to tell because of the all black thing, but I think that might be the case.
