It was less about needing power and more about Jade needing to prototype anything ASAP, IMO. Either that or maybe while being created by DD he also had some Prime Programming dictating that he should become a sprite as soon as the opportunity arises, but that's a bit of a stretch.

I'm going with the theory that all the First Guardians have the job of bringing Lord English into the universe.

Which for Becquerel includes making Jack into Lord English in the first place.

Of course, this all hinges on Jack = Lord English.

He didn't panic or anything of the sort. If he were panicking he wouldn't have spaced all the potential prototyping material beforehand.

Self-prototyping was deliberate and had nothing to do with Vriska or John or anything of the sort.

Well if we look at all of Bec's actions to date I'd say they all center around protecting Jade and staying with her. Couldn't those have been his intentions as well?

I'm more curious about why Jacquerel went and wasted Karkat's dream self as if it were something personal. I mean he was standing right above him and looking him right in the face before he blew it off along with the moon.
